i feel greater warmth for clinton as she finds herself in an underdog position. i believe that the only way for her to pull out of this tailspin is to seen as a /really/ softer, endearing, vulnerable person. clinton has shattered gender roles and traditional barriers ... after this process i think she will emerge as much more amazing than her doubters (and i am one) could ever imagine. it actually the most amazing karma: she is in a position that her drive and ego will force her to dismiss her drive and ego, and become (in the public eye) an imperfect and warm human. her brains, her savvy, her fight ... these were never in question. it's just that barrack obama is able to more genuinely convey his emotional development than she. i think that somewhere along the road clinton must have learned that she had to be careful, very strategic, and cautious in the world of men that she invaded. she had to be ... to be twice as good as all those saps who had it easier.i think it is those now outdated skills that will end her presidential aspirations. unless she comes out strongly as herself. in a blaze of glory. if she still remembers who that is ... and i hope she does. i feel sad for her, but i also think it's ok for her to lose. she can grow a beard, skulk around for a bit, then win an oscar and a nobel prize. when she lets down her hair, and starts kicking ass in ways that truly impassion her ... she will be an immovable force.
hey geoff ...
joan's right. her last two posts were happily a nod to the growing swell of the obama movement. i am still leary of her clinton bias ... as evidenced by many, many other one-sided, defend-hillary blogs like the one you just read in the last few weeks. it's really distressing ... her lack of acknowledgement of this. but maybe joan isn't /really/ trying to rally support for hillary. maybe there is no conspiracy. maybe she just thinks clinton is getting roasted by the press who refuse to warm up to her. if this is true, i wish joan would be more overt about her counter-strategy and how it influences her blog and this website content. i actually agree that clinton is getting unfair treatment, but i also think clinton is as much to blame for this as the infantile press. trouble is ... acting the same as what you criticize in others reduces one's credibility to zero.
my take on other reporters/opinionists (hard to tell the difference) here and their bias:
tim grieve here seems to favor clinton slamming, to counter joan's cooing.
jow conason, a weekly submitter here, is shamelessly a clinton advocate. read his last three posts for proof.
greenwald, and i'm a fan, seems to like to raise issues associated with reporters' bias, how this bias results in myopic perspectives ... and is reinforced by hot-air punditry. he also tackles bushco. lawlessness and congressional neocon pandering. a very good read here. my only beef with glenn's writing is that he is choosing to use salon.com as his forum ... so his media commentary ... while often spot on ... smacks of hypocrisy because it is found here. i hope salon & all it's writers/editors have a bit of a come-to-jesus moment of reflection from this readership backlash ... balanced spin is so much more palatable than unbalanced spin.
huffingtonpost.com is more balanced in it's "reporting" ... they seems to have young reporters actually digging thigs up and i haven't noticed great bias from them ... other than leftist. arianna huffington, the site namesake, blogs fairly regularly about the issues with clinton & her campaign. she does seem to be biased against clinton.
firedoglake.com is also good, i think, as is dailykos.com. digby (http://digbysblog.blogspot.com/) often has insightful analysis. other sites i like are talkingpointsmemo.com and http://www.realclearpolitics.com.
happy surfing!

on how clinton losing might be the best thing that ever happened to her, writen last sunday:
