  • Yes, but...

[Read the article: The best downloads of 2005]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

All very nice choices, but my fave rave is this little gem by the newly reunited and revitalized Was (Not Was), a Chicago Blues treatment of the Dylan tune, "Dignity," directly available here:

  • A terrific book!

[Read the article: "Sweet and Low"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I had the pleasure of meeting author Rich Cohen and introducing him at a panel at the Miami Book Fair recently.

    I recommend the book highly.

Here's my review from last May:

  • It Was Self-Inflicted

    [Read the article: Going mobile]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"Apple apparently fixed its sights on something grander. First it demolished the music business. Today, Jobs announced his new targets: your phone and TV."

Really? I thought the music biz was in the process of slow suicide by failing to monetize digital downloads.

Apple's iTunes store actually helped the biz, though it's still too stupid to take advantage of it.

Cellphones suck. While I doubt that I'd spend 5 or 6 hundred books for one, kudos to Apple for trying to turn 'em into something cool.

(Me, I'll probably wait for an unlocked iPhone Nano.)

  • It's not all fixed, Glenn

[Read the article: The "fantastic job" Newsweek's Richard Wolffe claims he is doing]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The last graf still refers to Michael, not Richard.

    But nitpicking aside, GREAT JOB!

Also thought your calm take-down of the delusional Frank Gaffney was a thing of beauty, too.

  • Other Drudge links

[Read the article: Drudge and the Politico -- poisonously joined at the hip]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Interesting, too, is that many of Drudge's links to wire stories go to his pal Andrew Breitbart's news aggregation site, breitbart.com rather than to so-called MSM news sites.

  • Happy to contribute!

    [Read the article: Blog news]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Glenn;

Your blog has quickly become one of my favorites. I sincerely appreciate your honesty, intelligence and thoughtfulness.

It's unfortunate that Salon is not able to fully fund your work, but I'm happy to do my small part and encourage others to do the same — or better!

  • "Slothful"

[Read the article: Joe Klein's stirring defense of Lewis Libby]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Perfect adjective for this determinedly wrong-headed, self-delusional fool who is going the way of the dinosaur.... yet has no clue.

    Brilliant, Glenn.

  • Where is South Detroit?

    [Read the article: Start believin']
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Puh-lease. The dumbest lyrics ever.

And I think it was Michael Stipe who said that Perry sings like a duck.

  • A Growing Minyan

[Read the article: Richard Cohen's brilliant (and unintentional) exposé of our media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Klein, Cohen, Pearlstein... oy vey is mir!

    (Thank God for Greenwald!)

  • What Digby Said

[Read the article: "Fringe liberal bloggers"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The sagacious Atrios frequently just links to "What Digby Said" and with good reason.

Glad to see and hear her articulate the reasonable and moderate views that have been slickly and relentlessly positioned as "far left".... by the far right.

  • Knight Ridder

[Read the article: The ongoing journalistic scandal at the New York Times]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's important to note that Clark Hoyt comes from Knight Ridder (now McClatchy), whose coverage of the Bush Administration's WMD claims was exposed as the lies they were — and are.

Wonder if The Times knew what they were getting into when they tapped him to be their ombudsman?

  • To Clarify

[Read the article: The ongoing journalistic scandal at the New York Times]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Please pardon my clumsy syntax. It was the Administration that lied, not Knight Ridder!

  • If/When Dems Win The White House...

[Read the article: Our broken political discourse]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...the Washington media will become wildly over-aggressive, saying, "This is what you asked us to do, right?"

    R-i-g-h-t.

  • Conventional "Wisdom"

[Read the article: Fred Hiatt defends the administration's mild, restrained secrecy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Anyone want to bet that if/when the Democrats take the White House, Hiatt, Cohen, Klein and the rest of the Bush apologists will reverse positions on just about every issue relating to presidential authority?

  • Appearances

    [Read the article: Various matters]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    Glenn;

looking forward to seeing you on Book Notes, Olbermann, Charlie Rose, Hardball, Blitzer's Blintzes (or whatever it's called) and my local brick & mortar bookstore soon.

    Right?

  • Inherent Contradictions

[Read the article: Is the GOP political platform contrary to Catholic teaching?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

The whole "Thou shalt not kill (murder)" and the prohibition against bearing false witness (lying) winds up being deal-breakers for most politicians... especially the current crowd of bible-thumpers (and humpers) in the Republican Party.... unless of course they can abide the cognitive dissonance and hypocrisy.

And they do that so well.

  • Calling Fox Security!

[Read the article: Michelle Malkin's hate sites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Bill O., please sound the alarm or flash the Fox Signal or whatever you do!

  • Wankerage

[Read the article: Joe Klein and Beltway seriousness]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think it's interesting that right after discussing the meaning and usage of the term "wanker," Klein then quotes... himself!

    Joke Line, indeed!

  • Contact your Congressperson

[Read the article: Attention Democrats: GOP fear-mongering does not work]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Yeah, it's corny and old school, but when an important vote comes up and my congressman (Robert Wexler) votes the way he should, I make a point of dropping an e-mail or calling his office.

These people need to hear from us on a regular basis. Isn't it worth the 5 minutes it takes to do that?

  • Amy Reiter!

    [Read the article: TV Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

No offense to Matt and Heather but I've missed Amy's rather tart(?) prose on Salon for a while now, so I'm pleased to see her byline again.

  • Cognitive Dissonance

[Read the article: Thomas Sowell offers superb Exhibit of the Right-wing Mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Some people are troubled by such things, but to Sowell, like the rest of the Bushoids, reality is just a technicality.

It's like living 24/7 with what science fiction fans call a "suspension of disbelief."

  • Rough, Tough Creampuffs

[Read the article: National Review's new tough guy, Mark Hemingway]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

"They take no guff when they strut their stuff!" (with apologies to R. Crumb)

Seriously, Glenn, on behalf of follically challenged big-headed guys... cheap shot!

  • Cover for your book!

  • Not Safire

[Read the article: David Brooks and the deceitful tactics of the Beltway pundit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Brooks, as I recall, was supposed to be the new Safire, or at least his replacement, as the "conservative."

Safire had his own tics and tropes, most notably regarding Iraq, Israel and Nixon, but at least he was a skilled and entertaining writer.

Brooks, in addition to being disingenuous, is awfully dull. That's the mean reason I read him only rarely.

  • MAIN not mean

[Read the article: David Brooks and the deceitful tactics of the Beltway pundit]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    oops!

  • Consistent

[Read the article: The war president "at peace" with himself]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Unfortunately, it's hardly startling to learn that Bush was so confident and smug.

Has he learned anything since then? If so, there's no evidence of it.

  • Fox "News" is in an alternate universe

[Read the article: Fox News' attack on the honor and integrity of our war generals]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It exists in the same system as the Bizarro World and possibly same dimension as Mr. Mxyzptlk.

    That's the only plausible explanation.

  • Of course...

[Read the article: Angry, hateful liberal bloggers]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...since the Rapture will soon be upon us, it doesn't matter if we start a war with Iran (who suckered us into a war with Iraq).

We'll be in heaven with 70 virgins soon enough.

    Oops. Wrong religious fantasy.

    Well, you get the idea.

    (We are soooo screwed.)
