Can barely read this...

New layout sucks sucks sucks!!!

Monday, November 2, 2009 06:56 PM

Yah But

The ads are bigger and those pixels are very very expensive.

Monday, November 2, 2009 06:57 PM

Time to give up the experiment...

It was fun but it's just not wokring. Bring it back up to normal size now.

Monday, November 2, 2009 07:12 PM

Curse this silly redesign!

Why is it that when I "Click to Enlarge", it doesn't? Is this some non-standard use of the word "enlarge"? Does it, perhaps, enlarge spiritually?

Monday, November 2, 2009 07:29 PM

@ steambadger

It's a comic about Lieberman. Did you really expect the link to do what is supposedly there for? You'll have to make lots of promises and get it on some talk shows first, then we'll see.

Monday, November 2, 2009 07:33 PM

I agree, new format is lousy, but...

Right click on the image of the comic and select View Image. Then you can see it at full res.

Monday, November 2, 2009 07:48 PM

I love Tom Tomorrow.

Wish I could read his strip.

Monday, November 2, 2009 07:56 PM

Indeedly-doodley

The new layout really is rather suboptimal, to say the least.

And what happened to linking to the comics on the front page. How many clicks did it take for me to get there? I forget.

Monday, November 2, 2009 08:00 PM

Can't read it. Too small.

Can't read my Tom Tomorrow cartoon - it's too small. Clicking on the link doesn't help.

Design FAIL.

(I'm not a fan of the redesign anyway; I can't find a table of contents, and a lot of articles are teased more than once on the same page. It's as if Salon is trying to cater to people who don't read more than an article or two a day.)

I realize this particular bug is one of those 'glitches to be worked out of the new system' or some such excuse, but I can't figure out why the new system to begin with.

Monday, November 2, 2009 08:05 PM

Absolutely impossible to read

The enlarge link does not work, the old Salon site appears to be retired. TMW is totally impossible to read now. Even with my reading glasses.

Monday, November 2, 2009 08:11 PM

Clearly

Engineers are behind the redesign of Salon.

"If it ain't broke... it doesn't have enough features yet."

This new format is quite irritating.

Monday, November 2, 2009 08:35 PM

Is SALON getting paid by the amount of time it now takes readers to wade through this new design?

Because that's the only possible reason for this annoying-ass layout. :P

Monday, November 2, 2009 08:51 PM

A better view

You can see the cartoons better in "Salon Mobile" view. Bookmark this link:

http://mobile.salon.com/topics/comics/

It's the only way to beat the system! (Other than buying a bigger monitor, that is.)

(Link at signature.)

Monday, November 2, 2009 09:14 PM

Nice one, DLF

The mobile version is actually preferable to the redesigned version in every respect. I'll strictly surf that one from now on.

Monday, November 2, 2009 09:26 PM

Why is it small in the first place?

And then the stupid enlargement won't work!

This redesign needs to die. Now. Cut off the gangrenous leg, go back to the old site, or you will lose readers. Not a threat, a prophecy.

Monday, November 2, 2009 09:45 PM

Jeff gets a star

at least on my computer the "click alternate, hit view" approach has admitted me to the inner sanctum. Now excuse me while I go read the damn thing.

Monday, November 2, 2009 09:53 PM

New Layout

Why is the cartoon followed by other stories on Lieberman instead of other Tom Tomorrow cartoons? When did they make this new layout? I thought the old layout was fine.

Monday, November 2, 2009 10:04 PM

I think the new layout is fantastic.

But yeah, the comic is too small to read and the 'enlarge' link doesn't seem to work.

Monday, November 2, 2009 10:05 PM

Joe Lieberman

Joe Lieberman, Kenneth Starr, Linda Tripp.

Monday, November 2, 2009 10:05 PM

Another great illustration!

Wow, Tom! You've done it again! Another terrific editorial illustration, filled with caustic, biting sarcasm, timely wit, sagacious prescience, and gorgeous, painstakingly executed artwork.

At least, that's what I guess it's supposed to be. It's so damn small I can't read it. Enlarging it merely overpixilates the image, ruining the intended effect.

Thanks, Salon!

Bastards.

Monday, November 2, 2009 11:58 PM

Separated at birth?

Is it just me, or does Lieberman bear an uncanny resemblance to the Wizard of Oz, as manifested in the frightening face behind the bursts of fire at the end of the long hall in Emerald City?

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 01:01 AM

Hey, Salon.com: Ads or readers being able to read Tom?

One step forward, 3 back on your formats, Salon.

This is illegible and the enlarge won't work.

Is this the new reach of the Conneticut Insurance lobby ?

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 04:18 AM

Love the comic

Hate, hate, hate the new format. Please give us an option to use the old one. Please.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 04:37 AM

Joan Walsh, this new format is the second stupidest thing you've done since hiring Paglia.

Not only is the cartoon so tiny it induces eye-strain to read, but it was almost impossible to find! Why can't you give a recognizable icon for the comics features the way you used to?

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 05:32 AM

"Connecticut for Lieberman" Party

Tom, Joe isn't a member of that party any more. In a brilliant move, several people joined, voted to change the by-laws, and they voted Joe out of the party.

So, I came up with a TV spot that shows Joe Lieberman walking in to a retaurant. The maƮtre'd says, "Party of one?"

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 05:47 AM

FIX THE ENLARGEMENT PROBLEM ALREADY!

Tom Tomorrow WILL NOT enlarge, althought the other comics do. This is the third time I've written about this, and judging from the comments, I'm not the only one. I would go to Salon Classic to view it, but I can't get that to come up. How do I do that?

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 06:06 AM

Less is more, but

in this case more is more.

Have you noticed CNN has fucked up thier front page also?

B.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 06:17 AM

Dogpile Everybody!

Can't read the comic. Doesn't resize. Layout sucks. Guess I'll have to wait till tomorrow to read it on Working for Change.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 06:28 AM

TOM TOMORROW

Here's an idea for your next book: "The Very Silly New Format"

You could run it by Joan and the IT guys at Salon and see what they think, but I imagine they'll love it, (except for the size, they'll suggest you reduce it to subatomic particle dimensions so it can better be enjoyed by one cell organisms.)

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 06:31 AM

Knock Knock

"Who's There?"

"The deficit."

Now just draw some pictures around that and you can have the next 50 TMW's

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 06:53 AM

Veteran71 wins this round

Very funny - thanks

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 07:02 AM

the page exists for this cartoon, and I'm supposed to enlarge it?

Did it really not occur to anyone at Salon to ask a reader if he or she could read the cartoons in the new format? And why in the world would you make someone enlarge what is supposed to be the featured item on any one page? That is just stupid.

Collossal fail on the new format, guys.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 07:13 AM

New design sucks

This is one reason I didn't renew my premium subscription. That and War Room's new all-Palin/Beck/Taitz-all-the-time format.

Tuesday, November 3, 2009 07:30 AM

I'd love to read the comic, but...

...I get an "errors on page" message when I try to enlarge it.

Joan, you hired a bunch of Indian web developers to implement your redesign, didn't you? Shame on you for taking work away from qualified Americans who really need the work to save a few bucks. Of course, like so many others, you're paying the price for it by getting crappy, unusable software that's driving away readers (customers) and hurting your business in return. Or, maybe I'm mistaken.

Take that money you waste on paying that narcissistic old gasbag that all your readers hate, Camille Paglia, and hire some competent people to redo your site.
