This Modern World

What if Democrats behaved more like Republicans?

Sad but true...

...and thus ends the American Dream.

Um...

Actually, Rush Limbaugh DOES hate America and he DOES want us all to die. There is no other way of explaining the things he says and does. The question is WHY does Rush Limbaugh (and his followers) hate America and Americans so very, very much?

Funny, but ...

Funny, but doesn't show a lot of insight into what the actual problem is in American democracy, and that's that it doesn't have any effect anymore.

All the decisions are made "elsewhere" and the elected officials are just circus clowns with assigned capers to cut.

If you focus on watching the clowns leap in and out of compact cars and squirt each other with seltzer, you don't notice your pocket being picked nor that the tent is on fire.

Good point

Well said.

This reminds me of a Bertrand Russell quote

“The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.”

Democrats have a lot to learn from Republicans

For example, they could learn to get to the point. Say what they want to say without a lot of excess verbiage. If you can say something in five words instead of 25 words, then say it in five words!

Be aggressive! Fight hard for what you want and show people that you are willing to go down fighting. Anything the Republicans get from you they will have to take it. Any victory they achieve over you will be a costly one.

Wake up, Democrats! The American people are not turned off of what you stand for, they are turned off by your wimpiness! People love and respect fighters! So be fighters!

Give us Roosevelts, Trumans, or Jack and Bobby Kennedy. Stop giving us Dukakises, Mondales, Clintons and Gores!

And don't give up on healthcare or you can expect more of us to go stay home or go to third party candidates in 2010 and 2012.

If Dems behaved like Republicans,

we'd torture. For Jesus.

Why complain about someone fulfilling campaign promises

Of course the getting past the partisanship of the Clinton and Bush years completely ignores that the Republicans aren't going to play nice.

That was equally true during the Democratic primaries, though. Obama RAN on a post-partisan consensus. One reaps what he sows.

American Dream?

Have you been watching these town halls? It's more like an American Scream.

Monday, August 17, 2009 07:00 PM

Are you kidding me?

And what does the left do?

Gin up fake evidence? How about comparing per capita costs between socialized health systems and ours when they are not adjusted for our unhealthiness and their cost controls.

They relentless accuse their opponents of treason? Maybe not treason, but profit seeking, tax paying, un-American, drooling, stupid, immoral bastard children of the devil.

Keep us in a state of panic? Code Orange will be updated tomorrow to...no no, that's not good enough. Try this instead - "THE WORLD WILL END TOMORROW IF THIS STIMULUS IS NOT PASSED" "THE WORLD WILL END TOMORROW IF THIS CAP AND TAX IS NOT PASSED" "THE WORLD WILL END TOMORROW IF WE DON'T PASS THIS HEALTH PLAN BY THE END OF JULY AND EVERYONE HAS HAD A CHANCE TO RETURN FROM VACATION AND REVIEW IT TO FIND THE TRAP DOOR PATH TO SINGLE PAYER"

Steamrolled Congress - What happened with the Stimulus and Cap and Tax? Fortunately we stopped the the third one.

But of course, politicians are all the same.

Don't trust them and therefore don't give them more power over our lives.

Why don't the caricatures change from pane to pane?

Trouble with cause and effect

"How about comparing per capita costs between socialized health systems and ours when they are not adjusted for our unhealthiness and their cost controls."

Why should you control for something that is part of what you are proposing?

It is unfair to compare my home run hitting performance with Babe Ruth's since you don't adjust for my inability to hit home runs.

@typicalboss

Gin up fake evidence? How about comparing per capita costs between socialized health systems and ours when they are not adjusted for our unhealthiness and their cost controls.

Um, what?

"Cost controls" is the whole point of having a single-payer system, or even a public option. As for "our unhealthiness," ever stop to think that may be caused at least in part by the lousy (or nonexistent) preventive care we offer the un- and under-insured?

Monday, August 17, 2009 07:15 PM

"immoral bastard children of the devil"

Dude if that's how you see yourself I can accept that.

Monday, August 17, 2009 07:42 PM

@Bitter Scribe

Yes cost controls. Those evil things that if implemented here will prevent Big Pharma, Biotech, and device makers from doing R&D and developing new drugs. Why don't you check out Howard Dean earlier tonight on Kudlow my friend admitting that cost comparisons between Socialized Single Payer systems elsewhere and ours are a fraud since they do not account for COST CONTROLS implemented in those systems and the fact that we pay for the world's drug development costs?

What happens when the dream of Medicare for all pays doctors the same rates that Medicare does today and I stop subsidizing Medicare through my private insurance when my insurance company is run out of business? Doctors will get paid much less, many will go out of business because they could not afford liability insurance and to pay their loans off and keep and office staff going. Moms will stop telling their smartest kids to go to medical school because schools cost to much and it will take them until they are 50 to pay of their loans. We will get average doctors cause the smartest guys will then go to Government Slacks with less debt and a chance to make more money.

You know what, I want the guy who thinks he's God operating on my daughter and I want him to make $2 million a year because he is amazing at what he does. I don't want average and if we get your plan, we will get average.

As for unhealthier population - that is not included in any of those numbers either and preventative care won't help (it will cost more because you have to apply preventative care to millions who were not going to get sick). Why do the public schools serve tator tots, pizza, and other junk to my kid? Why don't my kids take the Presidential Fitness Challenge? Why don't my kids have a mandatory diet and nutrition class? Most of our country has been taught to depend on the public schools teach our kids all of these things, and the schools are failing us. Fix the crappy school system and have them teach preventative (and Latin while their at it) and don't screw with my great and cheap health care.
