This Modern World

Hurray, Obama! Arrgh, Obama!

The letters thread is now closed.

See republicans...

This is what thinking for yourself looks like. We don't blindly agree with everything Obama does. It may be frustrating but at least we can distance ourselves from him when he screws up. Instead of making excuses for every bad thing he does like you do Bush.

Monday, February 16, 2009 06:21 PM

Oh?

I don't know why liberals would be confused. You'd think we'd be used to taking it up the ass by now. The only difference is that now we're being screwed by our own party, instead of the opposition.

Monday, February 16, 2009 07:05 PM

Hah!

All too true, I'm afraid. I've oscillated between elation and despair ever since Obama was elected.

@ Nancy Ott

... that is to say, for almost an entire month!

(he says, perched safely behind the cynicism shield he put up a year ago.)

Monday, February 16, 2009 07:16 PM

Love it

This little guy represents oh so many of us who worked tirelessly for Obama. In fairness, most of us knew going in that he is not a liberal, we were just counting on the fact that he is so damned smart that he will come around, eventually and in his own beautiful way.

Ostupid is amusing to watch- what imbecile thing will he do next?

Obama has been an absolute disaster. My God- all the man does is fly around wasting taxpayer money, having photo-ops, throwing cocktail parties, and decorating the White House. He is a simple minded jerk. The man can't even talk without a teleprompter. And the people he attracts- liars and theives. Just like his old associates in Chicago. In the news- the black women who begged him for help at his revival actually just sold some property for 40,000 dollars. Did you notice how his voice changed when he was talking to her? When he is talking to black people he talks down to them using his version of black speak. Why do they allow this? OStupid is laughable and the best part of it will be waiting to see how long it takes Obots to realize you don't elect a president based on fiction, you do it based on fact. Very amusing to watch.

Obama Warned Us

He told his supporters that they are not going to agree with every decision he makes.

I don't agree with all of his moves, but at least he's thoughtful and can apparently be reasoned with. Quite a change of pace from the last administration.

Monday, February 16, 2009 07:55 PM

Thoughtful and reasonable?

Ummm- No. He just lied to you. He lied to you. He told you there was a crisis- no, he screamed their was a crisis- and then he went out to play with Ayers. He lied to you.

You need the remove your ass from head tool very soon.

Monday, February 16, 2009 08:32 PM

@ce

Obama did warn us that we, his supporters, wouldn't always be happy with him, though as I recall he kept that admonition to himself until he had the nomination wrapped up. That was last summer at the time when he revealed he would be continuing Bush's unconstitutional faith-based initiative. I'm still rooting for him, but AARGH!

Reductio ad Ayersum?

Tinafeyisahag: your mention of Ayers in a conversation about Obama is a good reason for someone to codify a new Godwin's Law. Maybe "Reductio ad Ayersum?"

Monday, February 16, 2009 09:46 PM

SARAH PALIN READS SALON!

Check out Tinafayisahag's letters. This has got to be Sarah Palin. I love it!

Monday, February 16, 2009 10:50 PM

Dude

You totally lost any credibility with us when you insulted Tina Fey.

Better to be a hag...

...than a troll.

Oh, and Rush Limbaugh is a big fat idiot.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 12:24 AM

Hmm...

Ostupid? Really? That is the extent of your mastery of the English language, a cretinous lumping together of two words? While I normally have no problem with idiots setting themselves up as laughingstocks, your barely coherent ranting manages to arouse in me just a little more pity than derision. Now I know you lead a sad existence and your only solace is the talk radio because Rush and Savage will never judge you or try to make you think rationally or tell you to shower once in a while like those mean liberals, but it's not doing you any good. Turn off the radio, go back to school, get that GED you've been thinking about. Get a job, maybe at that fast food joint down the road; it would suit you perfectly. And then, when you're confident enough that you don't cry yourself to sleep at night, you can join the discussion with the rest of the adults.

On a completely different note, while I'm not exactly happy with what Obama is doing, I understand that this might be the best we can expect, political establishments being what they are. I'm just hoping he'll fully realize that any attempt at bipartisanship with the Republicans is a dead end. They want him to fail, and perhaps the only way to get his plans through is to marginalize/browbeat/steamroll them into submission.

president of the people

Like Clinton, Obama is making the mistaken belief that you can be president of all the people.

Instead of studying Lincoln, Obama should just look at Pres Clintons 8 years of war with the wingnut right as an example of what bipartisianship brings.

After 8 years of kissing the asses of the have and have mores, it could be time to take care of the have less and have nothings. Bush took care of bis own, maybe Barry is doing the same. Just wish he had been honest about it. Next time some smooth, jive talking pol comes around pretending he cares and wants change, take heed. After Clinton and now Obama, I pray some day we will really see change. Not in my lifetime.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 03:28 AM

Nooooooo!

The little man is supposed to be happy! He doesn't grimmace. My illusions are dashed.

Tuesday, February 17, 2009 03:53 AM

Let's bring Bush back for a third term. THAT is what being screwed looks like.

To be fair, most of the ARRGHs are relatively minor. Of course he's going to appoint Washington Insiders, for example, the difference is (hopefully) that he's appointing people based on their ability and the extent to which they know what they are doing, rather than family ties or friend-of-a-friend favours, like putting a drooling, babbling imbecile in charge of the entire nation's emergency response because he plays golf with you sometimes.

The Obama Haters were already on the march, and now they're deploying

"My God- all the man does is fly around wasting taxpayer money, having photo-ops, throwing cocktail parties, and decorating the White House. He is a simple minded jerk. The man can't even talk without a teleprompter. And the people he attracts- liars and theives."

When I read that, I thought it was describing Bush's third term!
