Re:End of History

First! Numero Uno! Frist!

Let the fear-mongering, race-baiting rightwing talkshow hosts start their engines!

Monday, November 17, 2008 07:09 PM

I hate to say it...

"America has elected a black President!"

"African Americans can never claim discrimination again!"

Monday, November 17, 2008 07:10 PM

Second.

But no baiting of any kind.

Excellent strip--hooray!

Monday, November 17, 2008 08:18 PM

Too...

...true.

Monday, November 17, 2008 08:33 PM

*grin*

Quite liked this one.

Fun strip

How can you not like the little "Hurrah" guy?

Monday, November 17, 2008 09:02 PM

Buzz Lightyear

TT could add many similar panels.

For example:

2007 - The California Supreme Court has legalized gay marriage. Hurrah! Homophobia will soon be a thing of the past!

1972, 1980, 1991, 2001, 2004, 2007, 2008 - Gas prices have spiked. Hurrah! Americans will finally get serious about energy policy and ending our dependence on Middle East oil!

1980, 1992, 2008 - Bush won't be President. Hurrah! We'll never have to deal with them again!

Etc., etc., etc.

I love

The way you draw. Your insights are great, your jokes are funny. But I mostly love the way you draw.

Monday, November 17, 2008 10:48 PM

I quite like the little "Hurrah" guy.

He's very chipper!

Monday, November 17, 2008 11:16 PM

The Human capacity for...

Hope/self-delusion, are equally alive and well!

We'll never ever need this funny a comic strip again!

Monday, November 17, 2008 11:18 PM

hurrah some more!

just because.....what else can we do? (why do we identify most with the little dancing guy?) One of (I think) your best!

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 03:14 AM

analogue

Short term generalizations are just as dangerous as valuing short term profits above all.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 04:33 AM

Ain't that the truth!

Can't wait till we get to the "Happy Days Are Here Again" part... again.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 07:29 AM

And yet...

...it's not the end of Francis Fukuyama, who continues to peddle his "end of..." drivel to op-ed pages all over the country. You'd think his miserable track record would...oh, wait. Forgot where I was. Never mind.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 07:53 AM

McCain lost the presidency! Hurray! We never have to see Sarah Palin again!

So... last week's "moment" ...

where he asked for just a "moment" to relish in the current wave of optomism has become the optomism in this week's joke? Hey Tom, give us some heads' up on optomism's shelf-life before you sucker punch us, dude! Damn, boy. Get us all, like, to take a moment to smell the daisies and then, smack, "you daisy-sniffers are all whack." Damn. I almost felt "good" for this one week in eight years, and now "hurray" is all so Nov. 5th to you. Damn.

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 10:49 AM

Huzzah Old Chap!

I like The Little Hurrah Guy too and hope we see him again. He's so sunny and undaunted. Bully!

Tuesday, November 18, 2008 11:28 AM

On optimism ...

George H.W. Bush killed the Iran-Contra investigation by basically pardoning everyone, so anyone that the special prosecutor could reasonably prosecute had a pass. Congress dropped its investigation too. Then those people came back and took senior positions in the Bush II administration, where they brought us torture.

Obama's a nice bipartisan guy who isn't inclined to launch lots of investigations or prosecutions of the Bushies. But if he doesn't, all those people will come back into the next Republican administration, and they'll come back emboldened: after all, they basically got away with murder. There's nothing that they won't do then.

People who think that letting bygones be bygones is a serious option will pay for it. The Republicans will regain power at some point; they'll be back. That is, they'll be back unless they are permanently discredited, by exposing what they did and punishing the perpetrators.

Right Wing declares a "new truth" and Idiotic Pundits in our American Corporate News Establishment (ACNE) echo, restate to establish the truth

as is their role as the propaganda arm of the Right Wing.

Of course, now that they are not in power, I think they'll be a dramatic downturn in this sort of stupidity from the still mostly Right Wing dominated talking heads on TV.

We will bomb Iran

repeat 15000 times

Wednesday, November 19, 2008 09:35 AM

election 2008

I hate to burst your bubbles oh libs but there is a little fact that you all seem to have missed. 34% of voters claim to be conservative. 21% of them voted for Obama. In normal conditions it is about 10%. Do the math. Under normal conditions McCain wins the popular vote and the election.

The reason he didn't was that too many of us remembered that the only time McCain has ever had a bad thing to say about anyone throughout his career was when he spoke about the conservative base of the Republican Party. Remember McCain calling Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson agents of intolerance? Remember McCain attacking the Swift Boaters? Give us conservatives someone that reflects our values and we will be back.

Until then enjoy the ride into economic chaos that is coming from Obama being elected. I am enjoying seeing folks such as Dan Rooney and Magic Johnson rending their garments about the massive tax hikes they know is coming that they helped to bring about when they supported Obama. The markets are as well. We are seeing profit taking unlike any other time in my lifetime. You wanted it, you got it. Enjoy!
