Remember when all the wingnuts were telling us we were crazy to have the slow, bureaucratic, inefficient and un-innovative government managing our social security pensions? Remember when they all wanted to give it to quick-minded, agile, efficient and innovative Wall St. firms? We could make a killer return on the booming market. We could *invest* our way out of the Baby Boomer's curse!
Thank goodness no one took them seriously...
Eat the rich.
The Democrats like to blame President Reagan for all the deregulation. However, most of it was done by President Clinton.
Now, I see that Senator Obama is objecting to bailing out the fat cats and not helping people who can't pay mortgages that they never understood.
Worry about the rich!
It's been a couple years since they had their last tax cut. Poor dears. Their cats won't be eating beluga caviar unless McCain gets elected and gives them another five tax cuts.
What with that dismal Enron crash. Thank god we have spent hundreds of millions of dollars in 'audit compliance' to make sure nothing hinkey happens again.
It is essential the the current Bailout legislation not be allowed to pass in it's current form. It gives much too much power to the Treasury Secretary without essential oversight and controls on how he can spend out money to buy so-called toxic debt.
Yes, the financial system is in a bad way, but let's not allow it to become even worse by giving a blank check to one man to spend our money.
Forwarded to me today:
"I just took a very important action on the VoteNoBailout.org website: I sent a letter to Congress demanding that my representatives reject Bush's proposes bank bailout legislation.
Congress is poised to vote to give the Executive Branch of government, and specifically the White House's political appointees in the Treasury Department, the absolute right to take our money and give it to domestic and foreign banks and corporations without any oversight of elected officials, from the courts, or from the people.
I thought you might be interested in sending a similar message to your elected officials. I urge you to take action yourself and spread the word!
You can do so by going to www.VoteNoBailout.org.

"It's deja-vu all over again"
and again and again...
Hey Tom Tomorrow,
Make this one a t-shirt and I'll buy one.
Thanks!
btw vaporland, the deja vu is Yogi Berra; but a nice thought.
Even if -- a huge if -- Henry Paulson knows precisely what he's doing and is totally ethical and will use the unprecedented power he's asking for wisely and ethically, with only the interests of the country at heart, he'll be in office for less than four months -- at most.
In the meantime he'll be serving at the pleasure of George W. Bush, who could always make an interim appointment someone more amenable to Bush's interests. And as we know Bush's interests seldom if ever coincide with those of the nation.
But even if Paulson is the perfect man for the job and stays on until the new president takes office, who will his replacement be?
If McCain wins, he's likely to appoint Phil Gramm. Talk about foxes guarding the chicken coop.
He's hoarding cat food for R. Bolling till 2065!
What I dont understand is how the GOP is touting the solution as if they arent responsible for the mess...is there no one accountable? They've been in charge times 8 years, and despite the seemingly rudderless leadership helmed by Reid/Pelosi, Dems still have that perceptible advantage of having better stewardship of the economy...am watching Bill Clinton on Letterman in real time, and he's still hampered a bit...maybe its me, as am not against criticism...
The Democrats like to blame President Reagan for all the deregulation. However, most of it was done by President Clinton.
Don't you know that a Clinton can do no wrong? :)
Let's set this straight. Most of the deregulation was NOT done by Clinton.
The GOP controlled Congress from 1996-2000. The chief deregulation bill Clinton signed was done in 1999...IE, it was a GOP driven bill. OK, yes Clinton signed it, but it was crafted by the GOP.
Then in 2000, we have a GOP President, and GOP controlled Congress. And what happens...?? No changes, no executive orders abolishing said bill (like he was doing for many others...) but an expansion of deregulation, and extended debt ratios (up to 40 to 1).
And let us not forget the glorious start to all this began with Reagonomics...
So Clinton, AFAIK, signed one bill on deregulation, but it all started with Reagan, then Clinton signed the GOP crafted bill, then Bush expanded deregulation and extended debt ratio.
Result = this debacle lies squarely with the GOP. Period.
Why let the truth get in the way of a perfectly good Blame Game?
Sarbanes. (the finance & white collar coverup guy)
I was arrested in a Commonwealth of PA Bank. I was disputing, and proving beyond a dark criminal shadow that a bad loan foreclosure was pre-meditated. A surly lawyer owned Laundromat during Bush's first term-heist. He tricked a friend of mine, dumping it upon her. An Amerasian Lady was the sad victim. I help her family after she left Vietnam. She was snookered by a couple corrupt lawyers. Personal Homes, rental units,, and many-many thousands of dollors. The FBI and Sarbanes Office were handed, by me, all the information. Sarbane's Baltimore Secretary would always hang up the phone, refusing me each request, a visit with my Senator. My personal visits to the Baltimore Sarbanes Offfice lasted about two minutes. Refused me.
O, please excuse me.
