oh my god!

Finally someone else who noticed the creepy ass smile thing. Say what you want about a green background's ability to flatter a skin tone, the creepiest thing about that speech to me was McCain's awful, pedophile-like grin every time he finished saying something.

Monday, July 21, 2008 06:59 PM

Yeah, the grin gets me too

Can you imagine a McCain press conference, where we have to see the Grin of Evil every time he finishes a sentence?

(shudder)

I thought Bush's condescending chimp-smile was as bad as it could get. How come every time I think something is as bad as it could get, it gets worse? Is it me?

Monday, July 21, 2008 07:25 PM

lots of people noticed "the smile"

I hope McCain "smiles" a lot more. I can -- almost, sorta -- understand why some people don't have a problem with Dubya's smirk. But the McCain rictus? Ugh.

Monday, July 21, 2008 07:35 PM

heh heh heh

They call me McCain.

Monday, July 21, 2008 08:29 PM

Creepy Smile

Yes, Moonbat. "Every time he finishes a sentence" is the heart of the creepiness of his smile. Ew!

Monday, July 21, 2008 09:16 PM

Let's not forget

. . . the creepy "My friends" intro to every other sentence.

What is up with this McCain Mania?!?

I'm like, what? This McCain shiznit is cr-azy. He's drawing, like, these thousands of people to his events. What? I know, It's crazy. They all clap thunderously at his speeches and shit. Seriously dude, I know, it's like literally crazy.

All you hear all the time is, like, McCain. Like all over the place. McCain this, McCain that. It's McCain-o-mania. Totally, you know.

...........

Oh wait. It's Barack Obama drawing the thousands of people? He's the one with the enthusiastic crowds? Nevermind.

Monday, July 21, 2008 10:10 PM

I'd laugh a lot harder...

...if I didn't get the distinct impression, given McCain's behavior, that the last panel's dialog has actually taken place.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 05:35 AM

Nothing beats that "creepy" smile

in high definition, revealing those yellow teeth. The smile is the best ammunition we have. To say he comes off as insincere is something of an understatement.

I am reminded of Paul von Hindenburg.

You know, the old guy they elected President of Weimar Germany in 1933, notable for having made Hitler the new Chancellor, then dying in office, paving the way for Hitler to seize complete control? Wikipedia suggests that a younger, stronger man might have been able to cobble together a coalition in the Reichstag that didn't include the Nazis, whose "mandate" to form a government was a laughable 33%.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 06:05 AM

Yep, McCain's a monster

So is Obama. So are the rest of them. Any of you that have not figured this out yet are as stupid as those who actually support McCain.

If France is such a great place, why do so many of you live here?

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 07:19 AM

OK, I'm in a good mood so I'll be generous to McCain

Maybe it's just the whole 24/7 campaign thing that turns human beings into androids. The being surrounded with weenies campaign advisers who tell you what to do, what to say, what to look at and what to eat, all without any of them ever having run for anything higher than president of the college Republicans. The 1970s Robert Redford cmovie "The Candidate" was a gerat portrayal of this. And so they guy who might have once said "Yeah, I said that" is now frantically saying "I never said that!" The process is complete when a candidate wins office and is walled off from us peasants.

Or, maybe he just is an out-of-touch arrogant clod and the campaign thing, despite it's stage-managed censorship, leaks like a seive and gives us clues to this.

By the way, in 2000 there was a TMW cartoon about what a goofball W was -- that he looked like Alfred E. Neuman, and that his only political experience was being the figurehead governor of a state with a weakly organized government. And we all know how that turned out.

Using I like This Modern World

This one not so much. I haven't keep up with the blow by blow coverage of Obama vs. McCain, so I don't know who gaffed this week. However, I am familiar with both candidates platforms.

There is plenty to criticize about McCain without having to resort to ridiculous personal attacks (i.e. he's old, etc.) as in this comic.

I don't like it when republicans make these attacks and it isn't any better when it is democrats.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 09:06 AM

@xxyzzy

It's not that he's old, it really isn't -- he just doesn't seem to grasp anything about technology's place in contemporary life. I know plenty of folks nearly as old as McCain who were able to integrate tech changes into their daily lives as they became more widespread. Maybe a lifetime in the military and the Senate has kept him isolated..?..

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 10:28 AM

We are repulsed, yet we cannot look away . . .

In a subtle bow to James Carville and the 1992 Clinton Presidential campaign, the McCain campaign today announced their new slogan: "It's the 5 years he spent as a POW 40 years ago, Stupid!"

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 10:53 AM

Picking on non-issues.

What does his "creepy grin" have anything to do with his character or connection to people? Or the lack of understanding or familiarity with technology that is most exaggerated? Yes, I understand it's a cartoon - a political cartoon - but how about satire about his positions on the issues, more on his conflicting statements, and other important matters. There's quite a bit of garbage on the internet and maybe it's a good thing to stay away from it and pay attention to well thought out analysis and accurate information; which is getting harder and harder to find on the net. This cartoon is no better than the other side that goes after Obama. No wonder our political climate is so messed up: folks just want smear, ad hominem attacks, and fluff. Thank God we're a republic and not a democracy.

"Yes, I understand it's a cartoon - a political cartoon - but how about satire about his positions on the issues, more on his conflicting statements, and other important matters."

Um, did you even read the cartoon - or just jump straight to concern trolling mode?

I'm thinking panels 2-6 touched on the very things you are wanting more of - in a, you know, 6-panel, political cartoon-y kind of way.

I never noticed before

but McCain does remind me of Monty Burns.

Tuesday, July 22, 2008 01:50 PM

@ivegotyournose

Reminds me of an older Stan Laurel when he gets confused and scratches his head.

The brutal characterization of McCain with black eyes and white pupils in the Modern World is rather funny

It's amazing how that one little detail makes McCain look the most sinister of the Right Wing.

No one else has "white" pupils, just solid black eyes.

LOL
