This Modern World

A subjective and altogether inadequate review of 2007 (Part 2).

What about the good stuff?

Hey, Tom,

Your review of 2007's politics-as-usual probably needed about 200 more panels to cover everything worth mentioning. My question: why didn't you mention any of few good things going on?

Specifically, I'm thinking of efforts led by Dennis Kucinich (and other true patriots) to impeach members of the current administration. With 24 Congressional representatives co-signing H Res 333 (check Wikipedia) and three members of the House Judiciary Committee openly advocating impeachment hearings, there's a lot more room for hope than your year-end review leads one to think.

Anyone who hasn't seen it yet should take a look at (and add their name to) http://www.wexlerwantshearings.com. Unlike most online petitions, this one's being conducted by someone with the ability to actually do something about the problem -- Congressman Robert Wexler of Florida. He wants the public to register so he can prove to other Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee that impeachment is not a "fringe" issue. Over 170,000 Americans have already signed up.

With as many as 1 in 6 Republican voters already supporting impeachment -- and many more who are disgusted with the state of affairs in this country and likely to be appalled at what hearings would uncover -- there's reason for hope in 2008.

Your Smart

"I have come to the conclusion that the right-wingers just hate cleverness or straightforward intelligence of any sort."

Since the average wingnut's stock response is often a sneer along the lines of "you think you're pretty smart don't you, mister smart person?", I'd say this is a pretty good bet.

No, no, NO! It's "you think your pretty smart don't you . . . ."

Hey, you missed Rove's big move

He's given Obama campaign advice. And Obama's following it.

Nulla Sallus

You're always one of my fav's. Don't ever change.

"Guernica" with Laughs

I mean it as a compliment, I think.

By way of contrast-- I turned on "Democracy Now" a little while ago, where Amy Goodman was also doing a "Review of 2007" show.

I just couldn't take any more after about fifteen minutes. The Alberto Gonzales clips started to trip my gag reflex...

Anyhoo, Happy New Year, if it ain't out of keepin' with the situation.

I was trying to be polite

In lieu of "fucking retard bongwater drinking assholes" sorry I'll try to crisp it up better next time.

"Saloniks"? That's almost as silly as "Salonistas"

I perfer "Salonians" myself.

Glenn Beck doesn't have enough brain matter to splatter like that. There would just be some brown stuff and a few flecks of toilet paper.

"And that drawing of the blown-up head gave me a nightmare. shush. Fortunately there was another dream that was a pleasant antidote. hush. Amazing."

You better not be dreaming about my aunt in Silver Spring, you pervert!

By the way, have you seen the documentary "Shakey's Hill" yet? You won't have nightmares, you'll have day-mares. You'll actually flinch and hit the carpet when those 60s start rattlin' off. It ain't fun to watch, but leaves you with something important to remember about why you should never take the blame for things that are not yours to be blamed for.

Good health, good fortune, and good times ahead for you in 2008 Bebop. From me to you.

Saloniks?

Nulla Sallus actually wrote "Saloniks"? That's almost as silly as "Salonistas" but still . . .

if you want some laffs, read Nulla's past postings. S-o-o-o-o-o 2007, dudes . . . .

TOM TOMORROW ROCKS

I still laugh uncontrollably at the recalling of KKKarl blaming the Dems for a rush to war. That's some seriously funny(factual) stuff. No matter how many times you hear it, it still busts your gut. He should work up a whole act and take it on the road......"I tried to stop Hillary from outing Valerie Plame, but Bill hit me over the head, rendering me unconcious"...."By the time I awoke, it was too late"!!!....

The material is endless!!!....

Monday, December 31, 2007 02:17 PM

I'd vote for Kucinich

But - the timing and the silliness of the primaries make it irrelevant in my state.

But hey, assholes, continue to bang your fat heads on the walls. It appears to be working well so far. In fact your comment to me just buttresses the point I made. You see world in completely childish ways. All your friends are superheroes and anyone who disagrees with you is Satan on meth, eating babies and raping puppy dogs.

Do as I say and as I do

"what really matters is the celebration of the birth of Christ" .

This is a quote from the Baptist minister-huckster Huckabee. If he had taken the time to read and apply to his daily life and his political ambitions the COMMANDS from Jesus Christ whom he worships then he would find that the writer,Matthew in the huckster's Bible, spends 2 chapters out of 26 talking about "the celebration of the birth of Christ". The remaining 24 chapters specifies COMMANDS and EXAMPLES in all areas of life concerning allegiance , self-defence , war , generosity , compassion to less fortunate , forgiveness...that are blatant condemnations of most of platforms of the presidential candidates including Huckabee .

Mark is all commands and examples with no mention of "birth celebration"

Luke is 1.5 chapters versus ( pun intended )23.5

John is all commands and examples.

"what really matters" according to above writers is for real Christians do what they were told by their spiritual leader, Jesus Christ and one command was definitely NOT, " celebrate my birthday" . He might have said " all right , celebrate if you want but only if you have obeyed all my commands and followed all of my examples".

The interpretation is real easy if the reader is not pre-conditioned by the mantras " unitary rule " or " my country right or wrong "

Jesus warned his followers , "Beware there will be false teachers ( prophets )"

TOM TOMORROW, YOU ARE RIGHT.....

Tom Tomorrow, Happy New Year 2008, or IS IT? You are as usual RIGHT ON THE MONEY, it is a SAD STATE of AFFAIRS for the U.S.A., but you are right. What a MISSHEGOSS Bush, Cheney, Bushland Uber Allies, Miss Piggy Rove and their MISERABLE ILK have left us in, "HERE'S ANOTHER NICE MESS YOU'VE GOTTEN US INTO," BushCo! Can we REWARD you for this RESULT by STRETCHING YOUR MISERABLE NO-ACCOUNT SCRAWNY NECKS AT THE END OF A BARBED-RAZOR-WIRE NOOSE?

Monday, December 31, 2007 01:02 PM

Absolutely

"I have come to the conclusion that the right-wingers just hate cleverness or straightforward intelligence of any sort."

Since the average wingnut's stock response is often a sneer along the lines of "you think you're pretty smart don't you, mister smart person?", I'd say this is a pretty good bet.
