Not to mention the people (like myself) who normally vote Democrat who will stay home if she is nominated.

Give Hillary a break about strategy, if not principle.
Is it possible that America looks different if you work in D.C. and are surrounded by the flying monkeys whose chattering drowns out everything else? If you or I were subjected to the 24/7 chatter, might not we start looking at America a bit more like the monkeys do?
And it's also possible that we're wrong about America.
I mean, if Hillary's triangulation was such a bad idea, then how could Bush have squeaked back in in 2004? Isn't it possible that, despite the growth of strong anti-war sentiment, that the bulk of America is still under the sway of war rhetoric?
All the online "liberal" blogs I read strongly object to Hillary's "centrism," and rightly so. But the online "liberal" community is hardly representative of the bulk of America.

So then, who?
If not her, then who?
1. edwards lost before, lacks toughness, and is too leftist.
2. obama has no experience, coke user, one-night stand'er, couldn't manage a hot-dog stand.
3. others...garbage.
PRESIDENT HUCKABEE!!!!!!!!

GOREBOT
Hattie is right.
Tom Tomorrow sucks.
Gore-bot, Gush from Saturday Night Live...all you spoiled morons didn't see what the choice was in 2000 and assisted in making Gen Y's brains even more mediocre and mushy.
Tom, an Iraqi baby in heaven cries every time you post another cartoon. Never forget that.

@gezelligtexas
I think my point about the war vote was clear. I'm not about to try and defend everything Hillary's ever done. NCLB and Patriot are both large pieces of legislation with good and bad points. Neither are inherently bad in and of themselves.
She's a moderate, pragmatic centrist, as she always has been. But to say she's no different from Giuliani or McCain is to be obtuse, starting with the fundamental fact that she's genuinely committed to the idea of a government that helps promote social justice and equality. If you think you can't be committed to that without also being a declared enemy of capitalism and all things corporate, then you should resign yourself to the fringe and a life of biiter dissapointment.
If you have a problem with her positions, fine. Just don't pretend like its impossiblt to know what they are. And I hope you're not an Obama supporter.

sadly hilary is the only one
obama is black and a light weight anti war candidate. he's dead in general election. sure black people like him. but black people are 12%, and even less in terms of actual voters. women are 51% like it or not. hilary is perceived as stronger on defence which will bring in moderates. edwards is also anti war which frankly doesnt have appeal outside the hardcore left.

@grubert
I think you're totally right. Most Americans don't like the way Iraq has gone and want it to end but that in no way translates to a desire to crucify everyone who "voted" for it, nor does it translate into a desire to become isolationist and pacifist.
The public recognizes that Bush has blundered horribly and they want someone who can do better going forward - but the Republicans will still try to paint the Democratic nominee as "soft on defense" and/or "terror" and to the extent that they can do that, they'll win.

Maybe She Doesn't Care about YOU
Reader brings out an interesting possibility:
"In fact, Hillary Clinton is in many ways typical of Republican politicians of 30 years ago. I know many long-time Republican voters who are utterly horrified and appalled at how the extreme right wing has taken over the GOP and are racing it over a cliff. They have little respect for "pure" Democrats like Obama, but they think Hillary would be sufficiently business-friendly and centrist to be acceptable."
Maybe these voters are why Sen.Clinton is "running right."
If she's the Democratic nominee, liberal/progressive voters can either take her or stay home.
Lots of registered Democrats typically stay home - maybe it isn't a sunny enough day, maybe Ralph Nader isn't on the ballot, maybe their boss has (illegally) threatened reprisals if they take time off to vote, maybe they've been in line for several hours and just have to pick up the children lest they be abandoned in the street, whatever. And, of those Democratic votes that get voted, a surprising number are never counted.
So there's relatively little benefit in pandering to you guys, groveling in apology for her past votes, constantly begging forgiveness which you'll never grant. (You know it's true.) Besides, that would make her look weak to that other group, whose votes are ALWAYS counted -
The Republicans. If she can appeal to those Republicans who are not foam-at-the-mouth insane (and that's most of them), and get them to vote for HER, instead any of the seven-plus dwarves that the GOP is now fielding, she's got the election sewed up.
And that's what counts. They said about Barry Goldwater "He'd rather be right than President." That's how many liberal/progressives are sounding these days. We demand purity, and retroactively. We reject the concept that any politician is capable of learning from experience, mistakes, or new information.
But this is wrong, and foolish, and naive.

Make Love And Don't Participate
The cartoonist assumes Americans who think like he does vote. Did you see Tom Brokow's interview with Charley Rose last week? As he said, most of them rode off into the sunset with their "Make Love, Not War" bumper sticker fourty years ago and haven't been seen or heard from since.
-
This bumper sticker coming to a car near you...
DON'T BLAME ME. I VOTED FOR CLINTON.
We'll be seeing a lot of these if she becomes our nominee. I will not vote for her if she is nominated, and there are many out there like me.
Queue the Clinton sock puppets in 3....2....1......

WARMONGERS ANONYMOUS
Here's the Bumper Sticker: I'M TOO PERFECT TO VOTE DEMOCRATIC. ENJOY THE NEXT WAR. IT'S ON ME.

yup many democrats miss the big picture
the folks that vote nader and complain endlessly that every mainstream candidate is imperfect. just remember back to nader when he and his cohorts spent their time yacking about how both parties were exactly the same. look where it brought us. these people just love defeat. theres a thing called being pragmatic. you really think all those who voted gwb in 04 really thought he wasn't a moron? of course not, even some republicans are pretty intelligent. but they got things like supreme court judges that last long past any single presidency. they got half a loaf. some democrats would rather have nothing i guess.
i wonder if the naderites are still sticking to their guns that its all the same now that our supreme court is right wing stacked.
