Here in Utah exit polls showed at 1/3 of voters strongly approve of Bush, 1/3 of voters somewhat approve of bush, and 1/3 of voters disapprove of him. I have to wonder what percentage of voters here are on psychoactive drugs and anti-depressants.
It's pointless to even talk about politics to people like the "strongly approve" bunch here. They talk just like the characters in today's comic. All Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity have to do to keep this crowd loyal is to give a good excuse that they can latch on to and they can discount any fact demonstrating a liberal bias. This week I have no doubt that they believe the Democrats cheated.
Actually, the best spin I heard was on NPR. The
reporter's view was that the election was actually a repudiation of liberalism because some conservative Democrats are going to congress.
To get an "unbiased" view she interviews a blue dog conservative Democrat and a conservative Republican. She seemed to think that "responsible" politicians such as these two gentlemen would be doing the real work trying to hold back extremists such as Nancy Pelosi. I wished she'd asked those two how they voted on the war powers act. For that matter, I found myself wondering what role she had played in the build up to the war.
So, she played this election as a repudiation of liberalism because some conservative Democrats won. No doubt she would have played it as a repudiation of liberalism if the Republicans has won.
Oh, by the way previous writer. She mentioned Utah and how the Republicans maintained control there and coyly suggested that the rest of the country might take a lesson from that state. How glad I am that I no longer support NPR.

Fact: FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE HISTORY OF OUR NATION(!) not one Democratic incumbent was unseated. All the incumbents who were sent home were Repugs, that includes both the House and the Senate, and EVERY Governor.
Liberal, Conservative, or "Moderate. Now THAT is a mandate!
Mmmmm, smell that coffee...
actually that last panel was the one where the laughed the hardest, because indeed i too wonder who would actually vote for the GOP at all, given their sheer incompetence!
And nothing says that more than *shudder* Lieberman...here in CT, over 70% of the republicans voted for him over their own guy. Many of the democrats elected are more moderate than extremists (thank God)...so thankfully it seems the pendulum swung a little more to the middle and not all the way to the other side. The last thing we need now is the opposite polarization. But TT's comic is spot on - I do so love to watch the wing-nuts squirm in their tremendous disappointment...
"Doubt it? Just sample their letters...week after week. Dare to disagree with them and:"
*chuckle*
Ahh I see, so two weeks later now you are repeating the same line I used, "I'm just laughing at the obessive idiot", and then promptly go on and on and on and on and ON AND ON AND ON about the people who criticized you? Still? And this proves THEY are like right wing idiots and YOU are not?
*chuckle*
Little trolling tip for you old buddy: When you are following the lead other people set, and are completely unable to walk away from the being the attention of the people you say you hate, you aren't the one who is in control of the situation.
Still, do carry on old chap. If thinking you enrage us is what makes your "job" (snicker) more bearable, then whatever it takes to get you through your day. He he.
This gunk coming from our conservative friends really is incredible.
1.) Define war as a small cell of bad guys wanting to blow something up.
2.) This means we are now in an eternal state of war.
3.) We must therefore elect republicans to office for the rest of eternity because the small cell of bad guys wanting to blow something up will be happy if anyone else wins.
Outside of the most rapacious and venal in the Wall Streeter crowd, rank-and-file GOP voters seem to be pretty much non-political types who are mainly influenced by their church and certain demogogue talking heads with whom they personally identify. They pretty much vote how they are told.
Of course, it is an undeniable fact that several of the victorious Democratic candidates pandered to this same church-oriented, right-wing, demogogue-influenced and nationalistic layer. The Democratic strategists no doubt consider this smart tactics. Of course, it is also a politically calculated and short-sighted appeal to ignorance, backwardness and political reaction.
Then again, that's our Democratic party today - the second party of the right wing. They essentially ran on the slogan, "Vote Democratic - we're not as bad as the they are."
The GOP talking heads are right about one thing: So much for liberalism. Liberalism has failed and can now be officially pronounced dead.
God, what a needy, whiny, attention-craving troll you are! You are a disgrace to your species. It's one thing to troll, it's another to make a fool of yourself pathetically trying to explain why you feel you were wronged and misunderstood and now how you feel so sorry for yourself and seek our understanding and approval. Ugh! You've gone from being just mildly annoying to being sickening. Get over yourself.
Welcome to the internet. Push away from your desks and do some deep knee bends.
You are quite the personal attack artist who, revealingly, seems to studiously avoid any political content in your various sundry personal attacks on others here.
I criticize the Democrats from the left, as is my right, even in the immediate aftermath of their 'victory.' I would welcome an actual political response. Of course, your remarks are usually devoid of any political content.
It is well known here from where on the political spectrum such personal and apolitical attacks usually originate - the most hysterical, vicious right-wing attack dogs and media scundrels.
If you are, in fact, a supporter of the Democratic party, I consider the lack of any political substance in your slimey attack-dog posts a vindication, not a successful repudiation, of my previous remarks.
Well done!
