How long can certain letter writers write the same letter about the strips being about the same topic?
It's the letters that are the same, monotonous message, not the strip.
The strip has a theme, like virtually all strips do, and I think it's remarkably fresh the angles he finds.
Name a strip, and I'll show you how it's the 'same note', repetitive.
Not every strip is for everyone's taste. The fact is, much of America is still falling for the things the strip dissects, and I see value to continue doing just that. I don't know how I'd come up with as many ways to say something on this topic, and think this is one of the best strips around.
Not only that, but it's pretty unique among strips for its technique. Doonesbury is good with the metaphor and sarcasm, Boondocks with the acidic commentary, this strip has its own style of illustrating a type of thinking which is common but rarely directly identified and put into the spotlight, which so helpfully exposes it.
Lay off the same repetitive letters every week. We get your point. You like the strip or you don't.
Let those of us who do enjoy it peacefully for a change.
It's not likely. The repetative letter writter is glued to its monitor in anticipation of the new Modern World strip every week. I can imagine it refreshing its browser minute after minute as the midnight hour strikes... yearning to sound its weekly manichaean cry of "First Post!".
It's a troll. There's a saying about not feeding the net trolls. It found a button to push and it makes it giggle to push it over and over again every week. It was supposed to use the phrase "phoned it in", though... I'm very dissapointed to not see that this week *shakes head*. You better promise to do better next week, youngster! *wags finger sternly at the troll*
See... Salon.com may be a "librul" news site but it's one that tries to promote enlightened discussion. He posts the same comment and he gets the same attention every week... some of it in the sincere "librul" fashion of promoting discourse... other attention as a knee jerk reaction to a perceived attack.
Whatever.
He probably makes his weekly rounds visiting the NRA website, earnestly declaring that they should embrace Michael Moore... or the Gay-Lesbian-Transgendered websites saying that they need to find salvation through Jesus.
We can cleverly discern its Trollish motivations by it's failure to contribute meaningfully to any opportunities for discourse presented.
AND get it published first?
With the new Troll-O-Matic 3.0, he's guaranteed to be the first dweeb in line to complain about how un-funny his favorite strip is!
"Aldzheimer's" ? Making spelling errors while mocking your target is bad form, troll.
People might be inclined to think you're not very bright.
Talking sense to a "conservative" is harder than sweet-talking one of my ex-wives into sleeping with me again; it can be done, but it's not easy and requires massive amounts of artery-bursting stress and frustration for a payoff that, in the larger scheme of things, is relatively modest.
When talking to conservatives, it helps to pretend you're reading a Superman comic and what they say is simply dialog taking place on the Bizarro world. With my ex-wives it takes massive amounts of cannibis and an iron-willed determination that nothing she says will harsh my vibe. Oh, yeah, and a Johnny Taylor CD, too
What I don't understand is why some people still want to vote for Lieberman. I can understand that they did in the primary, but now? Don't they realize that a vote for Lieberman could cost the majority in the senate? Even if you believe that Lieberman is a good man (which sounds bizarre to me, but there you go) it must be apparent that he can't be relied on staying with the Democrats.
bushisantichrist.com too. maybe this would be a good last minute slogan?
They are crazy and retarded. We know they will lick Bush's feet AS he splits open a baby's skull and eats her brains on national TV. No what worries me are the "undecideds". How is that even possible and how much paint do you have to huff to think like that? I'm pretty sure I wouldn't hire or even give a driver's license to someone that clueless.
This week's strip manages to satire the pro-forma political establishment response to any political challenge, the media's consistently tepid coverage of the most aggregious and outrageous political revelations and the public's reliably confused to far right wing dog whistle diversions, all at the same time.
To top it off, the hilarious drawings capture the various cynical actors remarkably well, as usual.
Political discussion in this country has been reduced to nonsensical farce as the most insignificant issues are given a weighty value in the public arena, while the largest, most fundamental issues remain all but ignored.
This strip clevely captures the reactionary and absurdly low level of political discourse that prevails throughout the entire media and political establishment, not to mention the abysmally low level of political awarness that dominates the long infantilized general public.
I rate this one 5 chuckles!
Wow, I didn't know where old Tom was going with that one at first. I mean yeah we all know the Republicans are Demons who had assumed human form, and the media is run by faceless corporate evil doers and international bankers out to destroy America as well, but where is the joke? And then at the end, POW! Wicked burn on Lieberman!
Take that you person who disagrees with some members of his party on one issue and as such should be driven from our sight so that random plutocrats who curry the favor of the left can rule over us all!
I mean really how dare Joe Lieberman have his own opinions on anything, let alone the Iraq war. And how dare those opinions be slightly less anti-war than the majority of his party! Doesn't he know that even if you vote for something because you believe it's right you have to throw off those opinions the second they become unpopular and act as if you were some dimwitted dupe just off the pickle wagon when you originally voted for it? And let’s not even start on Joe Lieberman’s asinine attempt to find middle ground with people we all know are evil international conspirators. Sure the vast majority of Americans repeatedly state in polls that they wish our politicians would endeavor to find middle ground from where to do the work of the people, but sine when has the opinion of the vast majority of the American people have anything to do with democracy?
And the fact that the people of Connecticut prefer Joe Lieberman to remain their Senator, despite being offered an unknown but ambiguously antiwar Democratic challenger just shows how pervasive this whole "thinking for yourself" meme has gotten.
When oh when will the Democrats rise to the occasion and simply start shooting those people who disagree with us? Then we can finally make everything right for ever!
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
