This is kind of awesome! My father, a man who read daily and in his lifetime had been an active union organizer made a statement to me a few months before he died on July 22, 2001: "Bush, oh...he's the devil." My father has since departed and never breathed long enough to verify the veracity of his premonition.
For Halloween I was Dick Cheney. I dressed as The Devil in hunting gear. Don't Fear The Veeper
"his teaming up with Lynne Cheney to attack academics and pop culture should have been the first clue that he was not and is not 'liberal' in any sense of the word."
And here I thought it was Tipper Gore he had teamed up with to attack popular culture and "protect the kids". Or perhaps it was his work with the Jr. Senator from New York I am thinking of.
Regardless, Mr. Lieberman's progressive bonefides are as strong as most any Democrats, Mr. Gore's included, and his "Big Pharma" money seems no more dirty to me than any of his fellow Democrats. In fact, I would have to say "Big Pharma" seems far less evil than "Big Oil", "Big Tobacco" or "Big Banks" which of course support all sides of the aisle. “Big Pharma” seeks cures for cancer “Big Tobacco” actively causes cancer I think “Big Pharma” comes out smelling like a rose in that match up.
Tom's cartoon pokes fun at Republicans, back in the day he had vitriol for all, but of late he's become as much a part of the echo chamber he derides on the conservative side. Damning Lieberman is little more than sour grapes from Tom, and it clearly reeks of desperation.
Oh and as one final note, the Democrats can not take back the Senate without Joe Lieberman. There simply aren't enough seats in play to pull that off. Given Joe's very public statements of his desire to remain in the party he has called home for decades, there is no reason for him to not hold on to his seniority. And in all honesty it would be foolish of the Democrats to seek to strip him of that seniority as an angered Lieberman would have the power to swing the Senate right back under republican rule. The Democrats need 51 seats to hold the Senate; at 50 the tie is broken by Dick Cheney. Although I think its fair to hold Joe responsible for his votes, I think if Tom really wants the approval of strangers he's never met on the internet, he should cast a wider net than just one old senator from CT, who, unlike his fellow pro war Democrats, does not act as if he was duped by the diabolical genius George W. Bush into voting for the war.
The war came, and perhaps was brought on, but it is here now, and as the Democrats have not formulated as a party what their official plan for Wednesday is with regard to the Iraq war, each Democrat is forced to find their own way. Joe has taken a hawkish stance; others have taken a dove's stance. I far prefer an honest hawk or an honest dove to the current crop of weak spined ducks who fill the Democratic Party, following the polls to determine if they favor or oppose the war.
Lieberman is free to have his opinions and the good people oof CT are free to vote for whomever they choose.
However, Lieberman wants to have his cake and eat it too. He wants to prove his independent bona fides by demonizing Democrats (ie, questioning their very patriotism and human decency, not just disagreeing with their points of view) but then retain his seniority if the Dems take control of the Senate.
Well, honestly, go do the anatomically impossible Mr Senator. Unless you want to ban fucking yourself as sodomy.
Lieberman has been a self-serving scold for years. his teaming up with Lynne Cheney to attack academics and pop culture should have been the first clue that he was not and is not 'liberal' in any sense of the word.
And please before you point out his voting record which votes for state intervention, state intervention does not equal progressive. Stalin and Hitler were equally for state intervention, yet no one would call both of them liberal. And, before you attempt to cut and paste and distort, I am not calling Lieberman Hitler or Stalin, I am pointing out that voting for big government is not the provence of either the left or the right.
Lieberman has consistently voted for a larger and more instrusive more paternalistic state whether it was in line with Republican or Democratic leaders. He is the worst of all worlds: economically Old Democrat, socially new fundamental Neocon Republican and generic, politicians of all stripes, in bed with powerful lobbyists (Big Pharma in Joe's case).
Lieberman was the beneficiary of Al Gore's monumentally wrong strategy of trying to distance himself from Clinton and he peter principled himself out.
Good Lord, if there was just a time machine and we could go back and get Al Gore to get on his knees to beg Sam Nunn or George Mitchell to be his running mate-- maybe we could avoid this whole bloody mess.
This one is hilarious, especially with ending it's one of the best.
As an experiment, I suggest TT colorize a Mallard Fillmore cartoon and post that as a weekly offering and see if the trolls actually notice or if they will just continue to cut and paste their "phoning it in comments" from the last 20 "phoning it in" posts.
That was the funniest TMW in quite a while!
see John Carpenter's movie "They Live" for the best movie take on this same theme.
Reagan era, republican yuppie scum are actually aliens out to destroy us.
Most people are just sheep.
Working class hero tries to save the day.

I have to admit that the "Republicans are demons" idea is hilarious since it is the Republican party, with its pseudo-Christian babble, which constantly and viciously calls its opponents "demons" "Satan", etc. Good one!
