You call spending half a trillion dollars on the illusion of "doing something to protect the country," spending ourselves into insolvency...business as usual? Where you from?
There is a justification for taking precautions and conducting agressive police and military work.
There is no justification for the strategic blunders of Iraq, and none for the fearmongers of the Bush administration when it's looking to be elected.
Doesn't the guy look like John Fund?
but then I had to stop myself from crying.
The republicans want Americans to do a number of things in response to 9/11:
- Give them carte blanche for their foreign policy as outlined in the PNAC document.
PNAC said they'd need a 'new pearl harbor' to get their domination plans enacted in less than several decades.
- Elect only republicans, because all the other policy issues put together - corruption, corporatism, the environment, the poor, on and on, are trumped by the issue that if you elect democrats the terorrists will kill many Americans.
- Give up essential liberties in exchange for some alleged security.
It's the democrats who realize that you cannot stop terrorism; the cure can be worse than the disease.
It's the democrats who created a war plan against Al Queda and would put the resourcs needed in Afghanistan.
I happen to know more than a few "Danger Men" myself. This is a good description of the type. It really angers them that I don't constantly feel the same sense of panic that they have made central to their own existence.
That claim to hold proof that anyone to the right of Bakunin is responsible for every dead puppy and the weather?
Encapsulates beautifully in a cartoon the absudity of American's hiding under their beds about "terrorism". When Bush says "jump", they say "how high". Bush has done all the heavy lifting for Bin Laden. So sad. Sigh.
Ken
"Go about your business as usual, or the terrorists win. But be afraid, very afraid!"
I hope that clears up any confusion...
SR, you write:
"That claim to hold proof that anyone to the right of Bakunin is responsible for every dead puppy and the weather?"
B***s***. It must be nice to live in Bizarro World.
Bin laden plan all along was to bring to the USA a war that it started, onto its own land. A war the USA started 60 years ago., that had been by proxy either by Israel, or Eygpt, Saudis, etc. 911 was a lure, and the usa fell 4 it hook line and sinker. "Iraq is a breeding ground for new soldiers 4 al queda, or arab resistance", the spooks have spoken. No wonder Bin Laden is no longer seen and everone thinks hes dead. Hes retired. Mission acomplished.
Americans living today grew up with the luxury of a kind of physical security not shared by most of the peoples of the world. Now that the threat of terrorism is a reality for Americans, we have been unable to react with wisdom, courage and understanding. Rather we're collectively reacted with the irrationality of an scared animal, to the determent of the rest of humanity far less empowered than ourselves.
Patrick McGoohan would be spinning in his grave, if he weren't alive. :D
Oh, he'll see tomorrow, alright, in a nice happy place known as The Village. Wait, he's already there, alone with the rest of us.
This captures a social phenomena that I have not been able to fully wrap my head around. The republicans like to project this macho image. Paternalism, militarism, cowboy diplomacy, anti-intellectualism, football loving, gun-loving, gay-hating, pull your own bootstraps espousing... you get the drift.
They want to project this hyperbolic John Wayne image, and yet to be a proper American in their eyes, you have to be scared of the terrorists. Not aware, not alert, but flat out terrorized as the strip implies. We all know the self-serving reasons why the Repub politicians are communicating this, but how do your average Joe republicans reconcile this contradiction? Anyone know? Please don't make me wade into the toxic waste of the Free Republic blog to find the answer.
As opposed to the liberal blogs
That claim to hold proof that anyone to the right of Bakunin is responsible for every dead puppy and the weather?
-- SR
Yes, almost every liberal blog I've ever been to has stated this construct as fact. No, wait, I don't think I've ever seen a single liberal, or even far leftist, make anything approaching such a claim. Nice strawman though.
