We must pruge the party

Of all those of less than revolutionary fervor.

to the last poster

I can't figure out if you're joking or a joke. I suppose it doesn't matter. But Salon has space.

Either way, the Democratic Party probably won't "pruge" most of the centrists and rightists that lean it towards the Republican Party. The advisory organizations all believe the "average American" wants "moderation," a balance that leans towards what used to be the right.

Ned Bakunin, of all things? You really need to go on longer for an audience to establish if you're peddling satire or idiocy.

Evil Joe the evilest evil Evil that ever was evil

Well I for one am miffed that there are still fewer words printed on Liberal blogs about Joe the evil menace to society than were printed about Monica Lewinsky. I mean what possible function can Salon the thought leader serve if not to hammer home the point All Evil Joe All The Evil Time? I would suggest to Joan Walsh to have a special Evil Joe column in Salon.

Keep on Keepin' On

I just want to applaud Tom Tomorrow for using this strip to write down the current right-wing propaganda and then puncturing it. His strips are entertaining, but are also a history of lies great and small, juxtaposed with simple truth.

I find myself sending them to my conservative friends on a regular basis and getting silence in return. I think it's because they realize that by repeating the foxnewsisms that are their only arguments, they step into The Modern World, and look ridiculous.

Don't offend the Republicans

Not sure whether you realize that, but you can only win an election if you don't offend the other party. The Republicans have demonstrated that in previous elections over and over again. You should completely give up on using "arguments" to try to "convince" others or inform others about your side of the story. It's much better to pretend to agree with the other side and emphasize that they are actually right.

Don't vote for the candidate you agree with - vote for the candidate which would be more palatable for Republicans. It worked with John Kerry, right?

So voting for a moderate Republican in a Democratic Primary would have been a good choice. You can do one better by directly voting for Republicans, though - this way there is no chance at all to offend the Republicans!

Purge?

Which party ya talkin' about, Ned? Republicans have a long track record of "purging" or sidelining those who have less than revolutionary fervor, whether it's John McCain, Bob Dole, Colin Powell or any number of other Republicans who committed the crime of saying "Wait a minute, let's think about this."

In Michigan a Republican congressman just got booted in their primary, replaced by a candidate who is somewhere to the right of the Landover Baptist Church. The response from the national media? Silence,

Right Again, Tom Tomorrow

I always like TT because he's an amazingly shrewd observer of the political scene -- especially of rightwingers. One of my observations of rightwingers is that they project on others exactly the kind of conduct that they do themselves. Thus, they don't hesitate to "purge" the Republican Party of those not in agreement that neocon philosophy is the way to go. So, they assume that the "left" does that too. The difference is that right-wing purges tend to be done by a few insiders while left-wing "decisions" tend to be made on a broad basis such as elections.

But in either case it's bad politics

For a minority party to pursue this. It's all well and good to watch the RNC lambast the unfaithful. They can afford to do that. But once you start putting litmus tests to the minority party you are simply reinforcing your minority status. This will wind up being a big mistake for the Dems as it will cause the moderate to conservative wing of the Dems to simply shut up and shut down and practically guaranty those seats go to Republicans anyhow. I know if I were running I'd rather be beaten in an election by a Republican than hung out to dry by my own party.

Satire or Idiocy

"Ned Bakunin, of all things? You really need to go on longer for an audience to establish if you're peddling satire or idiocy."

"Ned Bakunin Pol Pot" no less. My money is on idiocy.
