I love it

This comic is exactly what Mr. Shultz would have written were he around today...minus, of course any mention of current events. The spirit is there Tom. Great job.

Again with 'the Republicans'

It would all be so different if 'the Democrats' were in power. Well, it looks as if we will soon probably find out!

The blatant hypocrisy and corruption of 'the bush administration' or the 'political establishment' would be more appropriate than focusing on 'the Republicans' or 'the media' and leaving out the essential role of that other pillar of our democracy (as loudly proclaimed by both parties) - the Democrats.

For every cynical or hypocritical statement of 'the Republicans' it is easy to come up with an equal number of the same for 'the Democrats' - the party that is the Bush administration's and most important political prop. Nor, needless to say perhaps, are the Democrats immune or even that much less inclined toward 'corruption' if one looks objectively.

Also, perhaps if 'the Democrats' would seriously challenge the administration and its poltices, 'the media' would be a bit more obliged to cover 'Republican hypocrisy and corruption.' After all, It is the two major political parties together that monopolize the political and media establishment in this country - not just 'the Republicans' and 'the media.'

In fact, the current increasingly disastrous state of affairs, both domestically and abroad, would be impossible without the essential contributions of those cynics and frauds posing as an opposition party - 'the Democrats.' They must share an equal burdon of the blame.

Tom Tomorrow has, to his credit, pointed out the prostration and cowardliness of the Dems many times before. But 'the Democrats' contribution to the 'policies' and dire situation we now find outselves in cannot be over-emphasized, nor should they be glossed over and ignored as if they are significantly different.

interesting defense of Republicans, siraluce

In case you hadn't noticed, siraluce, Republicans control the entire executive branch of the federal government - not just the White House, but the cabinet/agency/bureau-level toadies who do all the enforcement of federal laws. Including, of course, the Justice Department - the ones who are supposed to be "policing" the Bush Administration, instead of going after the reporters who expose their crimes.

And they control both houses of Congress - meaning they control what legislation comes up for a vote, what committees get to investigate what wrongdoings (more accurately, what wrongdoings to ignore and sweep under the rug), and meaning they've willingly given a blank check to whatever the Bush Regime wants to do. (Up until now, anyway. The rats seem to have noticed that the ship is sinking.)

And don't get me started on the courts.

Are the Democrats without fault, or without corruption? Of course not, and nobody has implied that they are, including we Democratic supporters. And you don't have to tell us how cowardly they've been for most of the last six years - we've been screaming the loudest about that.

Of course there are corrupt Democrats, just like there were corrupt Republicans during the years Democrats ran the show. But the current corruption - the lobbyist/contractor-related corruption that is costing taxpayers billions of dollars and bringing so much shame to an already shameful Washington - that's a REPUBLICAN scandal. It comes with the power, and with the Republicans' continuing efforts to squeeze the Democrats out of power permanently.

"Both sides do it" is lazy, uniformed bullshit. And saying that the Democrats are equally at fault because of their timidity is like blaming a vicitm of abuse for the abuse itself.

siraluce

"For every cynical or hypocritical statement of 'the Republicans' it is easy to come up with an equal number of the same for 'the Democrats' "

You haven't been paying much attention to the Republicans, have you?

So which are you? Are you the type that says there's no difference between the parties because we're all doomed? Doooooooooooomed?

Or are you the type that says there's no difference between the parties because you're a Republican clutching at straws and using every bit of blather you can to pretend that there's no reason to vote the Republicans out of power?

Either way there's little point to your posts. Go hide in your bunker and let the rest of us work for change without your caterwauling.

I wrote a political peanuts cartoon last week!

Is something in the air?

One question for siraluce:

Do you spit or swallow after servicing your Republican masters?

Or do they not give you a choice?

Hey 'inquiring',

You think siracule's Republican masters are forcing him to get a Salon subscription? Lucky bastard, right?

Grow up, kid, and join a dialogue.

Another classic Peanuts image

The classic peanuts image that keeps coming to my mind is that of Chailie Brown standing on the pitcher's mound with rain pouring down. Other players start leaving to go home, but Charlie Brown stands firm as the water rises ever higher. He shouts to his teammates that it is just a sprinkle, that it will end any minute, but no one listens. Funny, but that image comes to mind whenever I hear Bush talking about Iraq.
