my
I've haven't seen him in decades.
So bitter sweet to see it all come to an end.
Vote Meadow.
and Godspeed, Opus.
I am really *not* looking forward to next Sunday.
The suspense is unbearable, but I can't stand to see it over. Damn but I'll miss that penguin.
I'd better post this while you can still see it. Goodbye Opus. I'll miss you.
Everyone was right. The pooch goes to Bora Bora.
This looks like I was right comparing it to the Star Trek show, "Who mourns for Adonais" in which the last Greek god spread himself into space.
Thanks for so many laughs, BB. We're going to miss the little guy. Thanks too for bringing back the meadow gang, even just for a moment. Peace and all happiness to you.
Seeing Cutter John, Oliver Wendell Jones and the whole Enterpoop crew made me a little 'motional.
Yup. Still miss Bloom County. Drat.
Not sure I'll miss Opus (the strip), which is far better than the relief I felt at the closing of Outland.
So I can't say I agree that it's bittersweet to see it all come to an end. The part that I cared about came to an end twenty years ago. How empty it makes me feel to say that.
Is it always a mistake to spin off one or two characters from a mature ensemble show to star in their own one-dimensional show? No matter how much you may have loved the character....
Got your handle wrong. Apologies. Clearly bedtime.
(Crying.)
Yay!
I'm pretty sure I know exactly where Opus is, you do too, just don't think so hard.
Wrapped in swaddlin' clothes in a manger?
"Juliet:
'Tis almost morning, I would have thee gone—
And yet no farther than a wan-ton's bird,
That lets it hop a little from his hand,
Like a poor prisoner in his twisted gyves,
And with a silken thread plucks it back again,
So loving-jealous of his liberty.
Romeo:
I would I were thy bird.
Juliet:
Sweet, so would I,
Yet I should kill thee with much cherishing.
Good night, good night! Parting is such sweet sorrow,
That I shall say good night till it be morrow." [Exit above]
Romeo And Juliet Act 2, scene 2, 176–185

Anyone for Shakespeare?
Stop, BB! You're making me feel old. The funnies are suppose to help keep me young -- at least my mind, anyway.
There are clues scattered throughout the entire sequence and this one confirms it,
I donut care et al.
But I really care. I hope to heck we will get a real resolution to Opus, rather than just some vague, hip, silly non-ending.
I am genuinely not ready to deal with this! If by some chance next week within the space of 72 hours I have to handle Opus going away for good and McCain winning, my mind may ... (as Dr. Scott says in Rocky Horror) ... snap!
Godspeed, Opus.
Actually, many of us who have read your hostile, poorly-written screeds on this site have wanted you to do that very thing.
If you hate everything here so much, why not go elsewhere?
Boy, that antepenultimate panel really choked me up.
Coincidentally, I'm staying at my sister's house and her partner has all the Bloom County books in a bookshelf about 6 feet behind my head.
Let us hope that Obama wins, that Breathed reconsiders and that there's peace in the world.
this penguin will never really be alone because we've loved him.
Didn't see that coming... Terrific!
the Enterpoop crew! That's 3 weeks in a row of tears.
Only one more left? Shit, Obama better win!
no hodgepodge....
sigh
well, i always did enjoy portnoy more, but give the rabbit his due...
... likely the strip is going away partially as Obama is likely to win (note I don't say "will"). The Reagan Revolution has almost run it's course and so BB's 'mission' is nearly complete. Either "that one" gets the WH and we start the pendulum back left - regardless of momentum - or we get McSame & Caribou Barbie (and BB doesn't want to be that mean).
The latter might see the country going a little insane. Or, it might be presidential equivalent of the cat dying just as you leave for vacation & the house sitter flaking - a stinky, rotten mess that will take some time to clean up & remove the stench, but hopefully a while before any more felines...
I remember when the original Bloom County went away. I wrote a long column in my college newspaper about how I'd miss those characters.
I've kept up, off and on, through Outland and Opus, with the penguin's travels, but seeing those guys again in today's comic made me choke up big time.
I've harbored a dream for where Opus (and now Steve, I hope) will end up, and this comic seems to give more life to that dream.
I expect I'll do more than choke up next week, especially if this ends where I think it will.
...when one comic strip can really, seriously break a grown man's heart.
First thing in the morning, no less.
Now it's time to say good night,
Good night, Sleep tight,
Now the sun turns out his light,
Good night, Sleep tight.
Dream sweet dreams for me;
Dream sweet dreams for you.
Close your eyes, and I'll close mine,
Good night, Sleep tight!
Now the moon begins to shine,
Good night, Sleep tight.
Dream sweet dreams for me,
Dream sweet dreams for you...
Good night,
Good night, Everybody,
Everybody, everywhere,
Good night...
Now it's time to say good night,
Good night, Sleep tight,
Now the sun turns out his light,
Good night, Sleep tight.
Dream sweet dreams for me;
Dream sweet dreams for you.
Close your eyes, and I'll close mine,
Good night, Sleep tight!
Now the moon begins to shine,
Good night, Sleep tight.
Dream sweet dreams for me,
Dream sweet dreams for you...
Good night,
Good night, Everybody,
Everybody, everywhere,
Good night...
