The division of wealth in this country is getting out of hand. This is what brought on the Great Depression. Most of the wealth was cornered by about 60 families who had more than they could spend.
Today, it is not that bad but it's out of balance.
It is not just CEOs. Why are some sports figures able to collect many millions of dollars? Ditto for entertainment people.
The only way to restore some balance is via taxation.
So which Presidential candidate and party will best address this?
Go figure.
" trickle down economics" ; is not john mc jerk trying to feed everybody here in america the same bullshit that ronald w. asshole[ reagan- the one who will make us proud again!??] fed us some 25 years back? and that is so true not just of the CEO's , but all the big entertainment people[ sorry ellen :)] and those football players I love to watch in the fall[brett favre, randle el of the redskins, etc.....]what's even funnier about this is that the two main goals of college students today have to be 1. become a big corporate exec. and 2. go to school on a full scholarship to better improve your already great football[whatever] game- then, in junior year, drop out to go PRO and say " thank you university of florida for providing me with a good education!" LOL then we've got those NOT great at sports, NOT great at being high achievers{" high achiever" being more like breezing through all the state board's competency/regents exams!}- and they can't even get into those good universities! did somebody once say " god damn america!?" [ obama's former reverend wright and he was RIGHT! ]
. . . of beaks!
They sure aren't trying very hard to discredit it!
the message corporate America seems to have gotten from the fall of communism seems to be "we can got back to creating the conditions that made communism seem like a good idea to so many people in the first place!"
And 'round and 'round we go....
If Opus,(that's the penguin's name ya'all) isn't the greatest comic character since Snoopy, I haven't seen another worthy one.
Bravo! Rarely we get a better analysis of the current economic environment than this one.
...comics related to asses and ass touching.
The worst/funniest/saddest part of the comic got left out, when we find out that the taxpayer gets to pay for the spanking...
I have no problem with S&M, but I'm sure a lot of people find it distasteful, and plenty of parents probably don't want Junior asking why the lady in fishnets and boots is going to spank the fat guy -- and the fat guy is happy about it!
Not that this means the Post shouldn't have run it, but my totally non-scientific survey says that 1,000,000 times more people are offended by dominatrixes in the funny pages than they are by that piece of filth named Cheney being mooned by a penguin.
I suppose for the Post, risking the wrath of average Americans is fine, but they don't want to risk the wrath of our betters.
There is one CEO that I'd like to get at. That is Jerry Yang, CEO of Yahoo! I can send email to anyone except people that use Yahoo email. It usually bounces.
I have a WildBlue direct satellite connection to the internet. It is unreliable and noisy. I cannot get DSL or cable connections.
Yahoo often rejects my emails. No other "service" does that.
The USA is a third world country in some ways. We are number 15 in re wide band internet connectability. The present Republican administration is unconcerned.
Senator Obama has talked about this problem. Since he will probably get into a position of authority, I hope that he means to do something.
Only one CEO seems to be irreplaceable. That is Steve Jobs of Apple.
Steve Jobs is peculiar but he is a genius.
Clicking on my signature should fetch an explanation.
Clicking on my signature does not work. Salon sometimes has IT problems.
I think a good point in this cartoon is that the elite in this country are able to get away with the kind of theft that would land most of us in jail for 10-20. Even Congress has now made it so that those that knew about warrantless wiretapping cannot be touched because these big CEO's made sure that they got the legislation that they needed to stay out of jail.
Also any media or entertainment figure, tv personality or music star. There should be a law that taxes all wealth at 100% above $100,000. Moreover the only way to suppress consumerist culture is to outlaw it. All home computers, cell phones and DVD players should be banned. We should close all 'theme parks' and malls. We should also outlaw drugs, alcohol, cigarettes. And let's move to ban private ownership of cars.
Sorry if I come across as a grammar nazi, but apostrophes are not used for plurals (as in CEO's). This is an increasingly common error, that, for some reason, drives me nuts!
In today's world, grammar Nazis can find a lot, mostly due to spell checkers.
One very common one is mixing up "you're" and "your".
Oh, it must be right, my spell checker says so.
Your going to be surprised by you're mistakes.
S & M
It's really the same thing.
S&M is voluntary.
You got that right!
OK, what about the apostrophe symbol itself? Many suggest using the apostrophe to form the plural of individual characters: "Jon's report card contained mainly B's."
btw, how would you abbreviate Members of Parliament? Some pedantic types argue for M's P. (I'd go for MPs, personally.)

Speaking of plurals, which verb do you prefer?
"None of the CEOs was overpaid."
"None of the CEOs were overpaid."
In my random listening of NPR I find 80% of reporters tend to use was, which is generally seen as.. not good.

Another fun choice:
"Ford is building smaller cars."
"Ford are building smaller cars."
Both win! (Brits go for the second option.)
