  • Vicodin

Also known as Hydrocodone, It does do the job. I try to use as little as possible,

Lots of pain makes one change his attitude.

    My best wishes to BB.

  • You were really hurt

So it was true last week. You really were hurt. I hope you heal quickly.

  • God is an artifact caused by literature

As children, we all listened to (and read) stories. Humans find stories fascinating, because stories are a risk-free way to learn about how humanity and the world works. The knowledge contained in stories was and a valuable aid for ensuring personal survival.

We assimilate the lessons implicit in stories and use them daily to help us make decisions great and small. We analyze our own lives by imagining ourselves as characters in a work of fiction. Our notions of what events signify and how we should react in a given situation are shaped by the events and characters we read about in the stories.

Everyone knows that each of those stories had an author. It's no great surprise, then, that we find it intuitive that there ought to exist an Author who is writing the story we are living. Hence the widespread belief in God... He's a psychological artifact of the way humans relate to the world through storytelling.

  • Got out of surgery a while back...

Can anybody tell me which champaigne goes best with vicodin?

  • Look for the first ten digit prime number

    Inside e.

  • Good luck and no pain, BB.

May you have 7,427,466,391 good feelings.

  • Hang in there, Mr B

Good luck to ya, and know that we're rooting for you to get better soon.

  • More about Vicodin

Sorry to hear about your injury, BB. I'm glad to hear Vicodin relieves your pain. I can't stand the stuff. It gives me hallucinations, not in a good way.

  • Spasmodic torticollis

This is what was stated to be what BB has. Click on my name to take a trip to the Mayo Clinic for a long explanation. A neck brace is not mentioned but one can see why this would be wanted in some cases.

I have a painful condition but fortunately not that one.

Vicodin (Hydrocodone plus another ingredient) is a narcotic pain killer. From today's cartoon, it can be seen that it does not eliminate BB's problem. Toni Michael mentioned the problem with Vicodin. BB has drawn that into the last panel. He is probably using quite a bit of it.

Presumably, BB has good medical treatment but this is a nasty problem.

The change in attitude is evident. Steve Dallas has lost his cigarette and the cartoon has a religious tone.

Last week's cartoon would not involve much drawing. Use Photoshop to drag those images in from a file.

    Anyway, God Bless BB.

  • Maybe there's a religious tone...

...but the piety comes from Steve, who is -- cigarette or no -- the spokesman for buffoonery. Opus gives the heretical view, which just happens to be the correct one.

Cartoons, unlike humanity, did NOT "just happen."

  • Shades of Cerebus

This strip reminded me of the fantastic conversation that Cerebus, the main character from the comic book of the same name, has a with "Dave", his creator. The specific book, "Minds", written by Dave Sim, touches on a very interesting meta concept. How does one communicate with God, if your every action is dictated by that creator.

Cerebus is a flawed figure, and he blames Dave, saying something to the extent of "If bread is bad, you don't blame the bread, you blame the baker."

Dave responds by saying, "But in this situation, you are the baker, and the bread is your life."

Worth looking into, for people who like somewhat cerebral comics.

  • Nature God bless B.B. is right.... (be gentle with pain. I once read a proverb : `enjoy your bedridden times.) That's easier said than done. But I think there is something to ponder... when ailing.

The pain theme, and the comments are very helpful. A dear friend mentions Epson Salts.

There is a town overseas where Epson Salt is harvested. The pain gets tense with salt.

The salt may make the ache greater, but it's rumored to draw the 'sore' out of you?

I do empathize with people in pain. The pain in the neck~trolls... not very much.

It may be a good idea B.B., to wear a big oak wood barrel and fill it with beer?

I am never sure. But B.B., make sure you honor the pain.... trolls.... no.

It may help to go to a stream and hold some tiny pebbles in your hand.

I love to limp along at a beach all hunched over and watch sand ripples.

I loved how you colorfully drew some of Salons worst critics at the end.

  • Funniest comic in ages

Now don't get me wrong... other comics have been funny... and I definitely wish a swift recovery to BB... but that was great. Yay for the philosophical conundrums which emerge amidst the pain of existence! As long as they don't last too long!

  • Haven't been a fan....

...exactly, what with my recent posts complaining that Breathed just wasn't doing anything funny anymore, but....this one was pretty good - I laughed, which I haven't done at an Opus cartoon for ages. Kudos.

  • Opiates and capsicum and mudpacks (in add. to your botox)

    Dear Creator Breathed,

    Be well

I know that sounds easy to say.

Vicodin (as you must know by now) causes serious constipation and nervousness and irritability coming down.

When Billy Burroughs was given his conocopic choice amoung a bedspread-ful pharmacopia, he chose DILAUDIN (sp?) without any hesitation.

Morphine is the best, but I think meditation (with a "t") and mudpacks and good jazz and soothing Haydn are the best.

Indica could help with distraction and as a dietary and emotional boost.

Mostly , it is an inside job, as far as focus goes- the true endorphin.

Just try thinking how much better the pictures will turn out after you learn to control the ache and burn and twitch and cramp.

How did you find so much control in the last 2 weeks' frames?

The last square today is remenicent of Wilhelm Busch.

Send out for some Wilhelm Busch cartoons-

Max und Moritz can be easilly found translated into English, but the entire canon is worth knowing.

So, Busch, Morphine, Capsicum (externally and internally) and mudpacks. You will be fine at some point.

Thanks for not just phoning in this week's strip.

We are behind you, great creator!

  • Champagne & Vicodin

    hairymadnes-

    Ask House.

  • Feel better fast BB

I know a child diagnosed with your same condition. Stress, more than anything else, makes it flare up, and it is definitely a comes and goes thing. Love to read Opus every week.
