Mostly, the responses in the letters before this one couldn't have made the cartoon's point better if they had tried. Each, in its own way dove as deep away from the issue as possible. Answer the question please: If a "White" woman can have a "Black" child, why can't a "Black" woman have a "White" child? In American society, the answer to this riddle is held in a death-embrace by those who benefit from the fantasy of race and those who have been so battered by the fantasy of race that they cling to that fantasy like a lifeboat.

In "America's Great Conversation On Race" - a perennial farce as contrived and shallow as a medieval passion play - the one word you never hear spoken in "Racialism", ie, the fallacious belief that human beings can be meaningfully categorised into "Races". Racialism is a beloved thing here in America. To question it would be to questions the very scaffolding of American-ness. Racialism lies underneath every American's consciousness: like the San Andreas fault too much is built upon it to risk disturbing it. Every American citizen passes a Rorshach test: "All-American", "Heartland", "Suburban", "Boy-next-door", "Good neighbourhood". "Black" and "White" are about as biologically authentic as those words. Each of those words is an American way of saying "White".

In a world-class performance of cognitive dissonance, Americans will tut-tut and wonder why Barack Obama cannot "close the deal" while with the other half of the frontal lobe, they congratulate themselves on being so enlightened as to consider a "Black" man for president. It is only when the thing that even Barack Obama cannot speak in this Racialism-deranged country is spoken loudly - that he is not "a black" man - that a true "Conversation on Race" has begun. Hillary Clinton is not a "white" woman. Neither am I (an American born in Nigeria) "a black" man - at least not until I can have a "white" child too. These categories are the medieval "animal/vegetable/mineral" elements that one group of people has used for hundreds of years to build a hill to levitate itself over others. Hillary Clinton knows the power of this spell over Americans - which is how she has invoked it so successfully.

The time has come in America to unveil some Biblical and historical truths. Biblical Abraham, Moses, David, Solomon were all men of color. Therefore, the true Isreal were men of color. It's been curious that, from the beginning of the campaign, the "black" has triumphed over the "white;" yet, until now, there's not been a single smidgen of 'why.'

I cannot type any long text. I was raised strictly under the influence of L. Emmett Holt who dominated the child raising field from 1896 through 1933.

Any person who was raised this way has severe sensory-motor problems.

I have pointed out to many people that Obama is a white man with a black father in that he is not only half white, he was raised by a white family and did not know his father. That he is culturally white was the reason that many talked about whether he is black enough.

I think this is important to understanding Obama. I believe that it explains his ties to Wright's church. In order for him to begin his political career he needed to establish a base in the black community and this large influential church helped give him credibility with the community. (Why he did not distance himself after he was successful and was planning to run for national office, culminating in the presidency is a different issue.)

I am not saying this as a criticism of Obama. Whether this is a plus or minus depends on where you stand.
