Get it?
There's no such thing as poor people.
Ha!
a nice Twilight Zone story.
there's at least one dot-eyed reactionary straining to read some kind of fascistic or immoral message into it?
Only in America, where the Dream its to become just like Rockefeller, would it be funny to give away dimes.
With Hoovervilles returning in a way unheard of for many generations, with even contraceptive assistance to indigent women--wait, they must really not be indigent if they have something--eliminated from the budget because it goes against American morals, I suppose this "sendup" of reality is funny.
I really don't find these views all that amusing.

A truly unAmerican belief.
A nice summary of the true not-knowingness of our culture. There are so many things we think it essential to know that we, in fact, can't ever know for sure.

And that's a message I'd have to disagree with emphatically.

Carol Lay was once a cartoonist for Mad magazine: this may be at the heart of some of her skewed screwball humor
The more things change...?
This comic has great structure - a slow clear setup, several devices that elicit strong recognition (lotto winner, crooked private eye, a prince-and-pauper switch) and a well-executed twist ending. All this in 12 panels on one page and for free. You can't beat it.
...is that the only people not scamming for dollars are beyond the need to do so.
