Reminds me of one of my favorite old Bloom County strips, "Baby carrots never have a good day".

The plants calling Carol a bitch at the end is priceless.

The science she refers to ofcourse is pop science and somewhat suspect, but I think she's honest about that, "He was only 61" and refering to cancer as a desease of affluence show that she is aware that what ever benefits a vegan diet may impart they will be minor and hopefully more related to a healthier diet in general than any magic removal of dietary animal protein might confer.

That being said, I would like to point out that cancer is primarily a desease of age, and not outside influence.

Certainly some behaviors (such as repeatedly burning the microvascular interfaces of your resperatory system) have the ability to increase your chance of getting cancer slightly, but the primary cause of cancer is still as always a long life.

Biochemical reactions are not precise, and mutations and defects come into being as the reactions occur over and over again.

The longer people live the more likely it is that a fatal mutation will occur. Think of it as an evolutionary (or devine) designed in obselecance.

Whether or not an animal or vegtible intensive diet leads to more or less mutation over time, is relativly moot, as the primary factor in whether or not there will be a fatal mutation is within your genetics from birth.

Really the only reason we don't all have cancer is because something else kills us first.

I think that controlling one's food sources can be one way of trying to scythe down to manageable sizw the abundance of food choices most Americans enjoy.

I love that this comic is, well, *funny* .
