Did anyone notice
that the bullet wounds suffered by the cactus keep changing positions? Oh, and that this comic strip is not humorous?
-
Yes and No
Okay, I'll bite. I know I shouldn't, but I can't resist.
I did indeed notice that the holes changed position, which seemed to give the cactus facial expressions, serving to anthropormorphize the plant. (Also, having the cactus hauled into court and serve time achieved the same thing). As for the humor, I found it funny that the cactus killed the one who shot it in an ignoble way, and it ended up with a porn producer, who was also likely to shoot it in an ignoble way.
I'm not sure if this is what the artist intended, but it works for me.

I think I get it....
I remember there actually was a case of a guy shooting up a tall cactus out in the desert, and that it fell over and killed him. I guess the artist read about that and then figured "OK, let's take this a few steps further. What would happen then?"
The business about the cactus going to Van Nuys with a porno videographer is, I guess, a riff on people who get out of prison and later, like Jack Abbott, turn up in one notorious setting or another.
But I'm just guessing.

Comics aren't always funny
Carol's got a taste for a little something we call irony.
Irony is appreciable as the square of the ability to recognize it.
