I've seen a lot of coverage in different papers, and nowhere did I see a single mention of a comic book.
I collect and read mainly golden age books, Ducks, Captain Marvel, EC, 50s horror, Little Lulu...in the 80s, I liked RAW quite a bit. I have read Blab more recently, but must say I’m pretty much drawing a blank on anything new that I’ve found very interesting.
I'm not at all into movies based on superheroes, and I dislike this new, pumped-up on steroids style all the superheroes are draw in these days. I like the Ditko Spider-Man, and even the Romita version is a bit much for me.
But I am mainly curious if this comic show still has anything to do with comic books, or is it mainly based on a bunch of increasingly derivative, commercially hyped off-spins??? It sounded like what I would most enjoy would be lost in all the commotion.

As a denizen of San Diego, there's lots of peeps who hate Bush. They do roll the sidewalks up at 9pm. Yep.
As a Con attendee who was there 3 days, I'd say the show rocked. Yes, lots of crowds and the "pageant" at the end is an epic waste of time, save for a few cute "inside" plot jokes regarding films and vid games. Even the hardcore nerds I was with were scratching their heads in confusion as to the appeal of that mess.
Lynda Barry of Ernie Pooks Comeek was the highlight for me--that and all the fabulous costumes. There are some really creative souls out there.
Til next year.
Great to see you again at Con in the usual spot. Hope to see a "Life's Big Victories: Childbirth Edition" strip soon!
(Nice shout-out to your Unks with the boy's middle name, and thank you for not going with a K-name like his parents have!)
I swore off Comic-Con after last year. Too expensive, crappy hotel accommodations, absolutely fetid non-meat food in the convention center, a Bush-worshiping neocon town that rolls up its sidewalks at 9 PM, no way to get back to your room after a late panel besides a price-gouging cab...and being unable to attend even a third of the panels you expected to attend, because of the freaking crushing crowds. Until they move this con to a sensible big-event location like Vegas, never again.
So, Mr. Knight, I hope you'll give Dragon*Con a shot some year. Smaller, friendlier, real food and crowds who would appreciate your humor. (I saw your panel two years ago. Your slide show DOES kick ass! You're a hell of a great off-the-cuff speaker! You ought to do a double act with Peter David.)
I couldn't make it this year; too much of that "real life" thing happening.
See ya next year, assuming you can find a hotel...
I nabbed my copy just in time---looks like Mr. Big Time is gonna have to do a 2nd printing :)
Me too, but it's fanboys (& girls) who do the allnighters... authors sleep.
When *I* used to go to cons, sleep was not an option.
it used to be you could get a one-day ticket at the door. now all the tix are snapped up weeks in advance!!!
i blame all the superhero movies and LOST!
You really got to hear Avery Brooks and Jonathan Frakes sing-off? Was Geanie Francis there as well? :-)
