But I would love for Keef to come to MY town and draw a strip about his observations about our ways of life.
Keef could be the next Darwin!
I know that Keefer is right about the state of things today, but I remember many moons ago when LA was notable for how fast people drove on the freeways....back when driving less than 80 MPH could be considered a gun-waving offense in the eyes of other drivers. Crazy goddamn world.
Quick, somebody give this guy a talk show.
I know the temple of which you speak. One of the most delicious veggie meals I have EVER had....amazing...
And inexpensive.
And low key and friendly.
And the gift shop rocks.
Very nice place, and I tend to be a martinis and steak kinda girl.
There are only two speeds on LA freeways: Under 20 and over 80. Everyone does the latter to compensate for the former. And of course the, latter directly contributes to the former.
And Keith speaks the truth. The Krishna Temple buffet totally rocks. And I'm about as vegetarian as your average Texan.
So, where is this Krishna temple?
When I was in high school here in the LA area, my comparative religions teacher took us on a field trip (one of many) to a Krishna temple and, yes, it was the best vegetarian food I ever had. In fact, it was likely what started my eventual conversion to vegetarianism.
But, this was a good 25 years ago (or so), and I have no idea where that temple was. Maybe there's more than one, I have no idea. But, if a fellow Angeleno can provide the info, I'd be most appreciative. I just may have to pay a visit again. Glad to hear you discovered it, Keef.
It's in Culver City. Do a Google search for "Govinda's" and it should come up.
Keef's cartoon, as with so many of his LA based stuff, made me laugh and feel nostalgic. I never made it to the restaurant, but the Krishna temple sponsored a free vegetarian dinner at UCLA weekly during the school year during my time there in the 80s. It was yummy!
