Tom the Dancing Bug

Come on down to Medicated Morty's. You'd be "sane" to shop at my store!

The letters thread is now closed.

Yeah Ruben

Some Canadian humor group you've never heard of had a similar idea once -- so clearly you must have subconsciously plagiarized them.

Also, you drew a cartoon a couple of weeks ago that was very similar to a conversation I had with my wife once. You must have been outside our door, eavesdropping!

Links to the first two "Crazy Morty" cartoons

Before taking prescribed medication, "Medicated Morty" was known as "Crazy Morty". The first "Crazy Morty" circular appeared in 1999:

The second appeared the following year:

The first two "Crazy Morty" circulars were among the funniest and most memorable cartoons Ruben Bolling ever did, and that's saying a lot.

@Beatnik Bob

Maybe some Crumb, but I'm seeing more Basil Wolverton at play.

The Vestibules

You may have subconsciously plagiarized the genius sketch called "Crazy Sammy's Discount Store" by the Canadian comedy troupe The Vestibules, which appears on their second album, "Get Spiffy".

In this "commercial", Sammy explains that he is better now and changed his name to "Well-Adjusted Sammy's". Are you sure you didn't hear it before?

Memories of the World's Most Obnoxious Pitchman

Great take on Crazy Eddie.

I remember working as a nightwatchman in 1984. The disc jockey on WPLR in New Haven used to apologize before and after playing one of those ads.

Thanks Tom.

Ah, the memories

There was a Crazy Eddie's not too far away when I was growing up. I got some good deals there, actually. I still remember those commercials...I wonder if they're on YouTube?

(going to check)
