I think the point about slavery is not discrimination but the systematic dismantling of culture and family structure. Other horrifically treated, immigrant groups were able to use community and family support pretty immediately after they arrived to strengthen their position. Not so for African Americans, whose families, communities, and culture were systematically dismantled and for whom education was illegal for far too long. It is not hard to imagine the effects of that persisting until today.

Even on a progressive site like Salon.....
any content that has to do with race automatically acts as a flytrap for amateur eugenicists and resentful white men who no matter what the context, manage to work in "affirmative action" and "other oppressed groups who have had it as bad a blacks".
If we are truly fortunate, we may get to hear about their grandparents.
It's like clockwork and proves another theory...that we as a nation are not a progressive as we believe ourselves to be.
Of course, it would be simplicity to logically dismantle what passes for their arguments bit by bit, but that would be missing the point.
At this stage of the game, cartoons such as this one are really only preaching to the choir and simultaneously inflaming the tender sensibilities of bigots. Bigots whose intellectual and moral cowardice forces them to speak in dog whistle code.
The letters section becomes a useful tool in familiarizing us progressives with the (albeit limited) arguments of the racist, and that has become real benefit to those of who find ourselves faced with this kind of willful stupidity in our everyday lives.
So again, thanks and keep up the good work.

I was stunned to see your magazine's disgusting reach for a laugh. I thought the subject was settled long ago. It's resurrection is a sad reminder that some people never let go of a bad idea. Anymore of this crap and I'm out of here...

Yup.
Blacks are the only people group to endure slavery and oppression. You got that right.
A truly correct depiction in this strip is the white professor kidnapping the white slave, because in Africa during the slave trade, the majority of blacks were kidnapped and sold by other blacks. Conversely, they were convicts of petty tribal crime and sold into slavery as punishment.
Alex Haley sure lied about that one.
Even a light read on the subject will uncover that Africans were brutal, murderous, and enslaving to their own kind at the societal level, and not surprisingly, still are.

When I get my Ph.d from UCLA ....I will use your cartoon to educated all cultures about their history via the library.

Is 15 points really that much a gap? And besides, does that mean that all black people score lower than white people on IQ tests? That there are no black people with a high IQ?
It's when you start talking about genetics that I think you run into problems. I'm fine with making a cultural argument against black's not doing well on tests (it is true, I did very well in school but I suffered for it) but most blacks (me included) aren't pure 100% black. Whatever the hell that means. Neither are most whites, for that matter. Until you can look at "African" DNA and find a way to analyze it and make some sort of determination that the intelligence gene is lacking (maybe it's because black men have BIG DICKS!) I think we're pretty much going to have to say it's a cultural/environmental thing, not a genetic thing.
Why would you want to prove it anyway? Besides, aren't Asians smarter than whites? Don't they do better on IQ tests?
Side note: why is it that the minute anyone brings up slavery or anything of that nature, a white person (usually a man I've noticed) has to say, well my family didn't own slaves. No one said you did. Even if they did, I certainly wouldn't hold it against you. Stop being so damn sensitive.

European Jews have been horribly oppressed and discriminated against for about 1500 years. Used as slave labor by Nazi Germany. Killed by the millions.
Guess what? Jews score HIGHER on IQ tests than other white people.

So that's why the Jews rule the world! They are smarter than the average white person! Though, all Jews aren't white, though, are they? Do Ethiopian Jews do worse on IQ tests?
Maybe Hitler was right to try to exterminate them...too much competition for the Aryans.

My reactions to your post are to the nature of your posts which I find are often lacking with regard to Black perpsectives... I do not rate humnan beings on the hue of thier skin unlike you it appears..
The idea that you think you are smarter than me because I am Black with an opinion that is different than yours is no surprise..
The idea that because I do not affirm your thinking is not a racial issue. You simply are a simple minded ordinary person whose cannot get over the notion that I express myself better than you and I refused to ignore race and it's role in America..

My retort is I was not around 300 years ago either... I did not own slaves nor did my family and why in this era must I still be treated as a 2nd rate person and on the end of so much racial contempt given these facts...
Truth is on this soil we had 2 holocausts and these events altered and impacted America's reality past and future....
America's racial oppression and aparthied has a long shelve life and present day significance. I am always amazed how white folks can remember and value certain aspects of American history and ignore and then tell Blacks folks to get over it..
It realy stings when I get this same message from white jews who tell me to get over it and then later they bring up the jewish mantra "never again"..
Our country has a jewish holocaust museum for an event that took place in Germany yet our country and no Black/Native American holocaust museums on american soil where the 2 american holocausts have taken place..
It is obvious race still matters in America regardless of the timelines...
