  • THERE'S A REASON ALL THOSE TROOPS ARE...

[Read the article: The United States is not occupying Alabama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

based in the South. The South has continued to fight the Civil War while the rest of us thought it was over. As Bubba-For-Life politicians have hawked their way through generations of federal tax dollars, all the while complaining about the federal government, the North has been taking it on the chin.

Compare the huge increasingly sums of federal dollars that consistently flow to the southern states for a variety of reasons - from hurricane "recovery" to military contracts - with the decrease in federal dollars to help rebuild states like Ohio and Michigan who collectively have lost over 500,000 jobs the last 7 years alone. And then compare how much these southern states contribute back to the federal coffers.

No one in North Carolina or South Carolina gave two shits when Ohio union jobs ran there back in the early 80's to escape paying a living wage and benefits, leaving American Ohio families without the means to support themselves. But now that those Carolina jobs have been shipped overseas, Carolinians are "victims." What a perverse bunch they are in the South! Hate those union guys, take their jobs, then piss and moan when they get screwed over by some Chinese factory owned by Wal-Mart. And they can't get enough Wal-Mart in the South either, by the way!

There has yet to be a full accounting of all the federal dollars flowing like a full spigot to Mississippi and Lousiana for Hurricane Katrina but the 2005 PSA's with Clinton and Bush asking for bucks still runs today on TV like it was yesterday. I think the billions received thus far are sufficent. It's a freakin hurricane area for crissakes and the rest of us across America are not supposed to make you whole again everytime a hurricane blows through!

Bubba-For-Life Haley Barbour, Governor of Mississippi, coaxed his buddy Bush to get him another 5 or 6 million for grants for Mississippi homeowners who were too cheap to purchase flood insurance for their homes and then were flooded out during Katrina. Meanwhile, a lawsuit against insurance companies that refused to pay off on flood claims where no flood insurance was purchased (rightly so, I might add and I'm no friend to the insurance industry), worked it's way through the courts and the insurance companies settled. So, thousands of homeowners who never bothered to properly protect their homes now would receive a pay-off. One big problem: They already received the federal grant money given to them because their insurance company did not pay. When asked if the homeowners should return those federal dollars now that their insurance companies were going to pay their claims, the politicians in the South were quoted as saying, "Leave those people alone. They've suffered enough."

I guess that's a "no, we're not giving you your money back, fellow Americans. And screw you."

The South, full of Bible-toting, Republican, take-responsibility-for-yourself types don't practice what they preach. They have been the biggest Welfare Queens since Reconstruction (with a wink and a nod, of course!).

So, yeah, there's a war going on in the South. But the reasons the troops are there have nothing to do with an Iraqi occupation. It's more like extortion. You don't think all that flag-waving crap blowing up from the south in the last 30 years is about patriotism, do you? Oh, hell no. It's about the money, Honey.

  • THERE'S GOOD NEWS AND THERE'S BAD NEWS...

[Read the article: Larry Craig has David Vitter's back]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

FOR THE REST OF US: The good news is obviously the moral and ethical high ground of "family values" captured and held hostage by the Republican party for over 40 years has officially been surrendered, albeit grudgingly.

FOR THE GOP: The bad news is obviously the moral and eithical high ground of "family values" captured and held hostage by the Republican party for over 40 years has officially been surrendered, albeit grudgingly.

Who could possibly take the Republican party seriously anymore?

head out on the highway...looking for adventure...and whatever comes our way."

The right-wing nuts and seriously disturbed neo-cons give thanks every single day by bowing to Halliburton that 9/11 happened. They now how a reason for living, "a step in (their) groove."

The sad part is that they have already proved if they say "Creationism" enough times somebody in America is going to buy it.

  • DON'T BE SO SURE

[Read the article: That's McCain, Johm McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

that someone did not proof-read it and simply over-looked it like many of us will overlook Johm this November.

  • HEY, I HAVE AN IDEA...

[Read the article: Tancredo's one-track mind]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

let's just not listen to Tancredo anymore! That's right, let's turn of the TV when he's on it, stop writing stories about his latest antics, and let him die on the vine.

How about it? Him and few others too.

  • HEY I HAVE AN IDEA:

[Read the article: North Dakota -- the next Saudi Arabia]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If we are really serious about not killing for the oil and being killed for it, why don't we just pass legislation that says that within 15 years we will eliminate all oil-consuming passenger vehicles, including those with ethanol which is expensive to produce and we simply cannot grow enough corn to manufacture it anyway.

We reduce our oil consumption immediately by 40%, we give Americans making less than a certain sum of money a voucher to purchase a new oil-free vehicle that we prod the auto manufacturers into producing (with the bugs worked out of it,thank you!), and we turn the entire episode over to the entrepreneurs to figure out with respect to what the new "service stations" will look like.

We free up millions of disposable income for millions of Americans to spend on things like...uh...retirement, savings, college, new homes, - you know, the American Dream stuff.

  • STEALING IS STEALING...

[Read the article: Dropping like a lead imperialist balloon]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

and can't be justified by a government plundering the wealth of other nations or the lowly street crook ripping off aluminum siding and pipes to sell for whatever reason.

Everybody has to rationalize everything these days. And no one is responsible for anything.

  • OH MY GAWD!

    [Read the article: Spare votes?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

A black guy picks up a bowling ball in America to try to act like a "common guy?"

    I cannot stop laughing!
