  • NEVER BEFORE...

[Read the article: News roundup: Are modern women miserable? ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

have we had such a crass corporate culture - a predominantly male corporate culture - so invasive in our lives telling us how to live our lives. And please note how many MEN it is that are telling us how to be women! I, for one, am sick of the number of gay guys just on TV telling me how to dress, cook, decorate, and be a female! Imagine: A female wannabe telling me how to be the real deal! You cannot turn on the TV or pick up a magazine and NOT be subjected to someone ELSE's ideas of what being female is today and as soon as there's one definition, then it changes like the next 20-something model and celebrity "it."

You cannot buy into the corporate crap and expect to be a happy person - it just cannot be done. You cannot remain true to oneself and ones family by making a corporation your top priority, including the top corporate job to afford it all.

And the solution is older than dirt: Give up the lifestyle that is making you miserable, and start getting yourself back. That means convincing yourself that you really don't care if you have the latest Prada thing, or hitting the hairdresser like clockwork every 4 weeks, and driving the latest car, and having the big McMansion that you probably can't afford anyway.

  • YEAH, MCCAIN SHOULD WORRY

[Read the article: McCain worries al-Qaida will attack to keep him out of office]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

McCain should be worried about a lot these days, including another attack by al-Qaida. What would the attack really say: American is not safe, therefore the policies of the previous administration, the one McCain would emulate, did not work at keeping us safe.

Everyone knew that Bin Laden needed Bush as much as Bush needed Bin Laden. There was no incentive for Bush to find him, kill him, bring to him justice, or invite him out for a beer! As long he lurked in the shadows, surfacing just long enough to remind us that he was still there, that would seal Bush's re-election. Remember all those afraid soccer moms who just had to vote for him because they were sooooooo afraid?

McCain, on the other hand, could use another attack to his advantage too, claiming that he was the one with the military and foreign policy experience who could best keep us safe. He could use it to justify a continued existence in Iraq, and reason to keep troops nearby Iran.

Americans are not stupid all the time. We expect Bin Laden to raise his ugly head once again before November to try to influence our next President. We have accepted the fact now that we will never be safe again anyway.

  • WHAT'S NEW HERE?

[Read the article: The rise of the superclass]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Elitists resisting changes that would benefit other people instead of themselves? Hardly a new idea.

  • YOU SOUND DEPRESSED

[Read the article: Nothing makes any sense anymore. I'm at the end of my rope]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

and I think you should have that checked out first before jumping to anymore conclusions about the people around you and the other "rubble" that you talk about. I remember feeling kind of like that a few times. I was severely depressed and didn't know it the first time. And I was peri-menopausal the second time, in my mid forties. You might be a little too young to be experiencing peri-menopause, but you might be depressed and not know it.

Please have yourself checked out right away. And if it's depression, then relief is available coupled with maybe a few other changes that would benefit you too. Good luck.

  • I'm So Proud

[Read the article: Can a pop singer change gender history?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

...that we are spending billions of dollars in Afghanistan so little Lima can become her country's version of Brittany Spears. What a freakin' relief that democracy works for all of us! Sorry, but I agree with the grump who asked how Lima's singing was going to cure the issues of the poor? And here in America, I'm beginning to wonder, as we celebrity ourselves into a tizzy, how we're going to address the issues of the poor too.

  • IT MAY SURPRISE YOU...

[Read the article: Slave to the boob tube]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

to learn that you have hit upon absolutely NOTHING NEW! Yes, yes, I know. You've had the first baby of the world and all that. I had my child in 1976. I turned off the TV for him until he was 2 years old not because of some study or research, but because of common sense. There were too many other things to do, explore, and too much learning to be done to be bothered with TV. TURN OFF THE DAMN TV. There. Is that what you are waiting for someone to tell you to do?

  • WHO CARRIES OHIO?

[Read the article: Memo to Clinton and Obama: Stop spinning]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And who will carry Ohio? I ask because if you do not carry Ohio, it doesn't matter how favorable the "wine rack" set sees you in New Jersey, does it?

Obama can have Mississippi. Who the hell wants it anyway?
