What's New Here? Nothing, Nothing At All
[Read the article: What Beltway media stars mean by "centrism" and "extremism"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I always find it funny when something that's been going for what seems like forever is reported on like it's some kind of profound revelation. Those who actually work in politics have been all too aware of how the national media warp democratic elections in the U.S. There's nothing new to this story. Go back to just 2000 and take a look at how many journalists actually bothered to "fact check" George W. Bush. Hell, how many actually "fact-checked" Bush 5 years later before he invaded Iraq?
The media can't exaggerate enough to make the Democratic primary a race between Clinton and Obama. Never mind that Edwards is actually leading in polls in Iowa. "Hey, Democrats, we don't care that it's your Primary. We'll advance those campaigns that give us the best ratings and those campaigns that we want to see down the home stretch." Call it "doping democracy." These beltway media types, enough of the out-of-the-beltway types too, have no shame, know no shame, and simply do not care what impact they have on democracy in the U.S. They abdicated their professional journalism ethics a long time ago. Sorry that you are just now seeing it. How horribly disappointed you must be right now.

Edwards: The Guy You Can Trust.
[Read the article: John Edwards lets his hair down in San Francisco]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Of all those running for the Democratic nomination, John Edwards is the most trustworthy - the guy I'd ask to hold money for me - the guy I'd buy a used car from - the guy who would play it the most straight-up with the American people.
He had the best ideas for America in 2004 - and still does. I was with him then, and see no reason to change now.

Give 'Em Enough Rope...
[Read the article: Gonzales to the Senate: I see why you're confused]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yeah, that's what we thought: That somehow we're confused about something else the Bush administration's hand-picked pack of liars, cheats, and thieves are doing - or not doing depending upon the situation. "Brownie, you're doing a heck of a job." The name of the game now is to run out the clock.

Well It Was Early In The War...
[Read the article: There was no "coverup"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]...and there really was this magnicent feeling and attitude that everything we were doing in both Afghanistan and Iraq was honest, justified, and morally superior to everything and everyone else. I mean, the Pentagon spin machine was working overtime with Jessica Lynch and others. Remember that? Bush was landing on aircraft carriers and the mission was accomplished. Publically discussing the rather unheroic death of someone like Pat Tillman just wasn't done.
Bush and the war-monger neo-cons wanted public heros and were manufacturing this stuff daily, like those crazy, cute little Iraqi "most wanted" playing cards. Eventually we found the courage, heart, and the brains to pull back the curtain and see someone who, strangely enough, resembles Dick Cheney behind the curtain pulling the levers. Poor Pat Tillman and his family. He served with dignity and purpose. It's not his fault that it this stuff always looks better on paper.

Hardly!
[Read the article: Joe Lieberman, from his indie perch]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"...pacify the anti-war voters..." is the precise reason why Democratic voters turned Joe down as their nominee. He still talks and acts like the overwhelming majority of the country who do not support this Iraq mess have it all wrong. This isn't about pacifying a bunch of rowdy, sign-carrying, protesting, hippy-like Americans.
We had no business invading Iraq and we need to get out and start spending our time, energy, and resources on real security here at home: our ports, airports, cities, first-call responders, rebuilding our schools and infrastructure, testing the food from China, and keeping people out of this country illegally.
As for the political demise of McCain: Sorry, again, Joe, you have it all wrong there too. McCain didn't crash and burn because of his "honest" position on immigration. He crashed and burned starting in 2004 when he sold out his outsider status for a right-wing seat next to W. And he's been paying for it ever since.
The overwhelming majority of the America people (Republicans and Democrats and Independents and those with no political affiliation) have come together over two things: A lousy decision to invade Iraq and our lousy immigration policies. It's been a long time since the majority of us have agreed on anything. Smart people see times like these as a opportunity to make things right. They don't sit around and pontificate about the ways the majority are wrong.
The world is a mess - and the Liebermans and McCains of the world have had over 25 years to fix everything from the environment to health care to illegal immigrants to providing for our domestic security. They have done little to nothing of any consequence in over 30 years.

Fantasy Island?
[Read the article: Fantasy island]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Hey, these guys and their over-exaggerated sense of self-importance are just too much. The rest of us live, eat, work, and play every day and seldom sit around reflecting on their self-professed value to an incomptent and irrelevant George W. Bush.
Rove and his ilk are like a bad car accident. We have to slow down to take a look and shake our heads, but we know there will be other accidents on up the road on other days too. We're just too busy with our own lives to sit around and debate, let alone care, how they will craft their legacies.
It seems that only the left and right elites are more interested in these warped personalities than the rest of us. Rove is gone - good! Now will someone please see how many laws he's broken and stop talking about the genious of being a democracy thief?
