Joe Biden: "They don't own the Democratic Party."
[Read the article: "They don't own the Democratic Party"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Gee, I thought I would never hear someone else say this out loud. The Democratic party "internet lefties" not only think they own the party, but they think they ARE THE PARTY! Unfortunately the media have made too many of these so-called internet activists/advocates/blogs/bloggers/YouTube/etc. more important than they really are. Maybe it has to do with what that media parent company owns in the way of stock, or perhaps they have paid advertising on those sites. We are smart to look at who's pushing whom when it comes to media shoving these internet new age darlings of journalism in our faces.
Unfortunately, the majority of the people these narrowly-defined internet vehicles appeal to are people under the age of 30, and the stats bear out that this group doesn't vote, they seldom engage in the day-to-day political combat that actually makes significant changes in our lives, and they have virtually nothing invested in the process.
This new age internet journalism is nothing more than yet another vehicle for ego-driven people who don't want to do the difficult work required in the real world of politics. Give them a keyboard and they think they know it all - just ask them. Nope. "Take back our party" might be their mantra. But from whom are they taking it back? As usual, they suffer from an over-exaggerated sense of self-importance. To take something back implies you actually owned it. They haven't - and they don't.

DO WHAT'S RIGHT FOR THE LEGAL CITIZENS
[Read the article: Placating the GOP base or protecting the workplace?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm no fan of George W. Bush, am far from being a right-winger, and could care less about the Bush administration's popularity when it comes to illegal immigrants in the U.S. But I do know one thing: This belly-aching over people in this country illegally "losing their rights" when they are discovered to be here is pure bunk - the stuff that makes for great drama in a movie-of-the-week. And people who knowingly break the law and put their own children at risk shouldn't be given a special entitlement justice package just because they are illegal immigrants. We Americans, both left and right and center, overwhelmingly rejected what Congress and Bush concocted with their unholy alliance on illegal immigration. It wasn't just the Bush right-wing base that was burning up the phones and email that week! Of course, the biggest crime committed here is the lousy $45,000 fine Mr. Insolia, the owner of the business, received while walking away with millions of tax-payer dollars. Now, that's a freakin' outrage.

Oh Please! Stop the Madness With the Primary Coverage Already!
[Read the article: Ginning up a fight between Clinton and Obama]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]"...just telling differences in style." Really? You call it style? And you don't think he's naive and inexperienced? Obama's style thus far is too use and confuse ideological rhetoric and platitudes as substantive policy proposals. I say he is naive if he believes that he can throw out statements during a debate that he'll meet with anyone, including our enemies, as a means of demonstating how he has a "fresh approach" to foreign affairs, but then comes back and qualifies that position on his website with another statement that is really nothing more than a continuation of the same policy that's been in place for the White House for decades (after the appropriate ground work, etc.). And he's inexperienced if the thinks the rest of us Democratic voters don't see it. Either he meant it the way he said it - or his team is cleaning up after him. You can call it style if you want. I call it yet another example of someone running for an office for which he is not prepared but is trying like crazy to act like he is! Kind of reminds me of George W. Bush back in 2000. Who needs more of that?

Why? Well, For Self-Preservation, Why Else?
[Read the article: Selfish lame ducks]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]There's a perfectly good explanation for Congressional GOPers and GOP Presidential contenders to keep propping up Bush and Cheney: To preserve and protect the GOP. Everyone knows that Bush/Cheney/Rove, et al, are playing a game of running out the clock. They need public relations support from those GOPers to keep the American people out of this issue while the clock ticks down to November 2008. It's the only way the GOP can protect itself as a viable party, and those Congressional GOPers and contenders can preserve their own politcal viability. Why else?

Not All It's Cracked Up To Be
[Read the article: "40 Reasons Not to Have Children"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nothing like the emotionally neutral, estrogen-free perspective that comes after menopause to help one see the strong desire to have children for what it really was: Romanticism dripping like a hot fudge over some sense of duty to one's ovaries with slivers of expectations on top of whipped frenzy. 30 years later: It all looked so good back then.

Lohan's Problems My Fault?
[Read the article: Couric goes to bat for Lohan]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oh yeah, sure. I'm the reason that Lohan and the rest of these no-talent women you mentioned in your Couric piece can't shove enough coke up their noses, drink enough alcohol, take enough pills, or bend over and show off their short-skirted asses to enough photographers. Get real. I'm sick of the corporations shoving them, and other no-talent celebrities, in my face every minute of the day,all over the TV, the commercials, the videos, the awards shows, the gossip shows (Inside Edition, Access Hollywood, etc.) Hell, even the cable news stations have to have a "celebrity feature" segment every freakin morning and afternoon. I don't care if Brittany has a pimple on her ass. And I don't care about Lohan. As for Couric: No one who has been so connected to the same industry, as Couric has, is worth that much money to lecture the rest of us about passing judgment on a another over-rated media darling and call it "news." Come to think of it, we've had enough of her face and her personal problems too. But don't ever think that because I read Salon or watch CNN that I have a damn thing to do with Lohan's problem. It's YOUR profession - you clean it up!
