There were some awkward moments for John McCain tonight.
When McCain had to ask Tom Brokaw for those three items his administration would attempt to pursue first again, and then had to go back to his table to write them down. He looked slow.
At the end when he said something like, "I'd like to go back to the first question", and proceeded to go to the wrong section. He looked confused.
The numerous times he appeared as though he'd wandered off, or was about to. He looked lost.
One thing Obama (who did great in my opinion) needs to work on is that "and" tic he still inserts into his sentences instead of pauses.
Other than that I'm glad the town hall debate is over. I've never liked this format. Obama handled yet another debate with confidence and ease.
I am convinced the punditry was purposely playing dumb with those 18 million voters who voted for Hillary. Pundits would attribute sex, race and age to all 18 million, as though they were entirely comprised of older white women.
Wow. Unless the guy was auditioning for the "new" Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, he didn't do anything to advance his chances of being the "new" face of the GOP, let alone winning in 2012.
Or perhaps it was Doug Henning he was channeling. I expected to see a rainbow magically appear behind him each time he said with aw-shucks and wide-eyed wonder, "you can do anything".
What is going wrong with the GOP these day?
I apologize if I have my information wrong, but I was under the impression that governors could not simply reject some of the money. They could reject the entire sum, or accept it all, but not part of the money.
And yet Salon and many news outlets are baiting people into a fight between the liberals and the conservatives, missing the real story.
Texas has no right to secede by vote. Print as many polls as you wish, Texas can't leave without first declaring war on the US.
Governor Perry is only half-right about Texas having special rights once, and specifically Texas used to have the right to vote itself out of the union...and they did. They voted to nullify that agreement with the United States, and joined the Confederacy.
We had a civil war, the Union won, and now Texas has no such right because they, like the rest of the Confederacy, were allowed back into the union so long as they agreed to adopt new constitutions. And that constitution provision ain't there.
What Gov Rick Perry is advocating is in fact treason, and that should be the real story. He is sworn to uphold the constitution of Texas, which in turn pledges to uphold the US constitution.
The headlines not long ago screamed that Gov. Palin was rejecting..."50% of the stimulus money!!!","...almost 50%!!","...about 40%!!", "nearly 1/3"
$29 million is mere 3% of the $930---what a maverick
Ah, the always dependable Zacharek review. Less about the movie itself, than about those names she loves dropping into her column. We are told names of other movies, other composers, and other directors of movies that I suspect she'd really prefer to be discussing. None of which has much to do with why this movie didn't connect with her.
Yes, let's talk about Pixar and Brad Bird...but how about doing so in another column.
Was 'Up' a badly written movie? Was 'Up' poorly voiced, poorly animated, or what? What left you 'cold'? I don't know what cold means to you?
Perhaps good movies leave you cold.
Coward. O'Reilly blames Ludacris' rap lyrics for violence against women, but takes no responsibility if it's his comments that may have resulted in someone else's actions.
Sanctimonious, hypocrite, and coward.
I really don't care what Newt says, no one should. He speaks as an unelected citizen with a Twitter account.
Who is Newt, Rush, and Cheney for that matter, speaking for any more?
Yes, this office was a dumb idea by Bush. However, this is clearly not the same office under Obama's administration.
Here's a quote from President Obama that CNN reported on back in February
Under his administration, the office's role will not be to "favor one religious group over another -- or even religious groups over secular groups. It will simply be to work on behalf of those organizations that want to work on behalf of our communities, and to do so without blurring the line that our founders wisely drew between church and state," Obama said in remarks at a national prayer breakfast."This work is important, because whether it's a secular group advising families facing foreclosure or faith-based groups providing job-training to those who need work, few are closer to what's happening on our streets and in our neighborhoods than these organizations. People trust them. Communities rely on them. And we will help them."
So he hasn't asked a pro-life Catholic to run this department though it were an extension of the Catholic Church. She has previous experience founding and running a religious community service group. That's it. Sounds fairly reasonable.
And I should add that I'm an atheist, so I am usually pretty sensitive to religious groups pretending to serve the needs of a community, while actually providing a way to indoctrinate those in need into their radical beliefs. There is no claim that this office, or this administration, will actively promote religious doctrine instead of assisting the needs of charitable organizations already serving many communities.
