I must be going soft

I used to think I liked quality television until I read this review, as well as your extensive take on Studio 60 a while back. Now, I guess I am realizing I really really love a bunch of stupid, boring, "tiresome" shows. Thanks for illuminating this all for me.

Boston Legal never fails to make me laugh. Admittedly I'm a big Shatner fan, but if Legal isn't a perfect venue for his highly-honed campiness, what is? I could watch hours of Spader and Shatner telling each other "I love you" on that balcony, or wrestling over "Schmidt rights." If it seems that the writers this season are focusing more on Shatner, Spader & Schmidt (sounds like a law firm to me), the reason is probably that viewers want them to.

The "Shark" vs. "House" comparison posted by someone else is, indeed, far more appropriate than "Shark" vs. "Boston Legal." Boston Legal is a comedy with bits of drama. Shark is a drama with bits of comedy (as is House).

I have no idea where Studio60 is heading, but each time I tune in for the 42 minutes or whatever it is these days with commercials, I'm totally entertained. Granted, I was not a West Wing watcher, so perhaps this formula is a bit less old for me.

As for Grey's Anatomy, I think I'd probably have given up on this show were it not for it being one of my wife's favorite shows. I think most of the characters are despicable. Is this really what women want?

I am so out of touch...

Excellent article

Fantastic reading...

What is lost in all the right-wing bluster about how the Democrats should've picked up even more seats if history is any barometer, and about how this six-year changeover was to be expected?

What is lost is the fact that Republicans over the past several years spent a lot of time and energy to redistrict areas all over the US that would favor their "permanent majority." When you factor that in, along with the fact that there is a whole right-wing television "news" channel that has the highest ratings of the all-news channels (slipping, but still the highest), plus the fact that talk radio is completely dominated by right-wingers, it is nothing short of a miracle that the Democrats had such an excellent net show this cycle. Nothing short of a miracle.

I am so proud of America. This is the closest we have come to zero-oversight fascism in my lifetime, and America stood up in a big way yesterday and decided enough is enough. We're ready to stop our post-9/11 confusion, doubt, and self-destruction and rejoin the global community. We're ready to start treating ourselves like civilized members of society again...

Or at least that's the plan.

The Democrats had better not let us down now. People should be held accountable for what they have done, but America will have a very low tolerance for endless hearings. We've ben down that road before. Governmental reform and straightening out our foreign policy should be the #1 and #2 concerns, not necessarily in that order, and the hearings should not overshadow this. I will take Pelosi at her word that impeachment is off the table. Sure, I'd love to see this guy go down, but it's more important that America sees that there is really a true difference between the two parties. That means being graceful in victory.

America did not vote for Democrats, they voted for CHANGE. Let's give them a reason to VOTE DEMOCRAT in another two years.

Thank you for making my day!

I hadn't heard that 30 Rock had been renewed! You have made my day! My wife and I have been trying to curb our television addiction as of late, and have severely cut the number of shows we Tivo each week. 30 Rock is one of our favorites and we were both worried it would be canceled because it's so offbeat. After ABC pulled the plug on Invasion, I was wary of giving any new show a chance. I'm glad I read your initial article on the new season recommending this great show because every week it's packed with more laughs than any other in recent memory. Alec Baldwin is just tremendous, and although I never cared for Tina Fey on SNL, she's great on 30 Rock, as is the supporting cast. I'm so glad NBC is giving it another shot next season.

Original article: Rosie Trumps the Donald

Unbelievable

Trump is acting like a four year old child. It's just unbelievable that someone with his media presence (and money) had to resort to truly personal attacks like that against Rosie. For Rosie, it's part of her job, and she was more making fun of Trump's celebrity. Trump's attacks were truly mean and personal.

He could've taken the higher road and refused to make this a multi-day story by just saying he didn't have any comment on it. His actual reaction speaks volumes about his character.
