All in all, it was a good and entertaining season. Christian was clearly the frontrunner from the beginning (kind of like Hung was in last season's Top Chef) so I wasn't surprised that he won, you could see that coming from a mile away. I did really like his collection, though. It was dramatic and theatrical and playful and often exquisite and I think plenty of the pieces could be easily modified to be more commercial. The final two-tone feather dress was breathtaking--I have to agree with Michael Kors on that one! I'd also say the two-tone ruffled dress right before it was also a stunner. My only complaints with his collection were too many black pieces to start, and too many variations on the bolero theme, but those were minor annoyances.

I liked Jillian's collection overall too, but she deserved third place in the final. It was a little disjointed and it was too hit-or-miss. Her evening wear was weak compared to Christian and Rami's, for starters. The weird cutout sweater with the modified Spartan helmet look was frankly bizarre, and then the gold dress! OMG, that looked like something some extra wore in the scenes from Paradise Island in the Wonder Woman series from the 70s! It was pretty wretched. Her first three looks were stunning and if she'd maintained that focus throughout she could've won, but alas she didn't.

Rami was somewhat inconsistent too. A few misses there--such as the pink dress on the Asian model. It was quite unflattering. But he had some stunners too, such as his evening gowns and the woven pieces. The lace evening gown was spectacular. Overall, although I liked the fact that he splashed more color in his collection than the other two, it was rather unfocused and occasionally jarring. Kors was on to something regarding his color palette. The other thing I liked about his collection was that it was so varied and complete--as Kors said, he gave them "soup to nuts." He deserves snaps for that, but there were too many weaknesses in the collection to give him the win.

So, I thought they all did very well but Christian deserved the win for the overall strength and creativity of his collection. But I do question the judging sometimes, as there seems to be little consistency. Chris was eliminated in his head-to-head with Rami last week for being too costumey and theatrical, and then they gave Christian the win based largely on those same qualities. Huh? I wish I'd have been a judge last week, because as sexy and nice and talented as Rami is, I think Chris beat him in their head-to-head and I'd have preferred to see his entire collection in the final rather than Rami's. Chris' was more creative and daring and intricate--just more interesting overall. I was surprised when they picked Rami over him.

Finally, regarding the judges for the season, I think Heidi has really come into her own and makes increasingly more interesting and witty comments. Michael Kors I could take or leave--he's usually on but I find him a bit annoying. I've had it with Nina Garcia. She always looks so dour and disappointed and her comments are always a little too bitchy. I appeal to the producers to find someone else to take her spot for next season!

OK, on to the new season of Top Chef in Chicago starting next week! Woohoo!

First, everybody who said Chris got a raw deal is right. That was simply a terrible decision, and maybe even motivated by the fear that his collection would have beaten golden child Christian’s.

My thoughts exactly. In retrospect, I think the judges perhaps saw Chris' collection as too much of a challenge to Christian's and so axed him to clear a path for their chosen winner. Like I said, I think he was the frontrunner from the get-go, and let's face it, there were a couple of challenges that he probably should have won but didn't (for example the "denim" episode, where the judges threw the consolation bone to the weepy guy with the shitty hats whose name escapes me now, right before kicking his ass to the curb the next week.) I'm sure they had some advance knowledge of what was coming from Christian in the final...I never believed their insistence that Tim Gunn never shares his "sneak peek" impressions with them. Baloney!

But Rami and Christian got to the finals because the judges wanted them there, no other reason. They should have been “auf”ed long before fashion week.

No question there. Christian was the clear favorite throughout, and Rami made it to the finals because all three of the judges were desperate to rip his clothes off and have him sit on their faces--Michael Kors probably the most of the three.

Six pages of letters about this show and no one yet has complained about sexism or misogyny among the judges and producers...3 winners out of 4 seasons have been male. There was plenty of griping about sexism last year when Top Chef awarded its winning title to a man for the 3rd consecutive year, but so far I haven't read anything similar here about the PR results. Have the Broadsheet readers failed to notice this article?? ;-)

Hey, dude (I'm guessing), my comment about sexism and misogyny was tongue-in-cheek...mild sarcasm. I thought it was ridiculous when I read such bitching and moaning after the last Top Chef finale (e.g. "The judges are sexist male chauvinist jerks! They're never going to let a woman win this competition!" etc.) and so I was expecting to hear much the same after the PR finale, and was mildly surprised when I didn't. Maybe the Broadsheet Mafia kept quiet because they too realized that Jillian had the weakest collection of the three?
