The PRV stat you have come up with may have some limited interest to some people, but can you explain why I should be interested in a stat that is only relevant to one league and not the other?
What Ashely and some other respondents to Lauren Sandler's article don't seem to get is that there is a very big difference between real Christianity and the self-aggrandizing evangelical horseshit that idiots like Baldwin are preaching. All this Satan and end-of-the-world nonsense was cooked up by demented, power-hungry church leaders 1600 or so years ago as a way to scare people into joining their church, and keeping them, and their money coming back for more. There's no basis for any of this in the actual words of Jesus, a fact that somehow never seems to give these lunatics pause.
But the other, perhaps more important point, is that the difference between evangelical Christianity and other religions is that these dangerously ignorant and simplistic end-of-the-world ideas have infiltrated our government. Wars are being fought and people are dying because our president thinks he's on a mission from God.
I don't care if Steven Baldwin wants to preach his demented religious ideas, but when you start convincing young people that the real evil in the world is perpetrated by good people like Bono, then it's time to stand up and put a stop to it. As the old saying goes, free speech is fine but you can't yell "fire" in a crowded theatre.
I would just like to suggest that Salon, as well as anyone else who is on the anti-war side of the Iraqi debate, refrain from using that figure of 655,000 Iraqi civilians killed. While the method used, which extrapolates from interviews with families in Iraqi neighborhoods, may very well have some accuracy, there are really no facts to back it up. I for one really hate to provide the right with more ammunition, and you must realize that they will use this to undermine any other arguments we may make. And isn't 150,000 dead a strong enough reason to put a halt to this insanity?
The question is not whether Oswald pulled the trigger and killed JFK. It's whether he acted on his own or was paid or otherwise put up to it. And there's just a huge amount of real evidence that there were much larger forces behind the act that Oswald committed. Of course there's a ton of bogus conspiracy nonsense out there, but that should not stop us from questioning what really was behind what happened that day in Dallas. Maybe you should read this article again, more slowly this time.
Mr. Kaufman, please look again at what Gary Sheffield said. He said, according to how you quoted him: "Where I'm from, you can't control us". Yet you turned that into him saying that "blacks aren't coachable or won't take instruction". To me this misses the point he was making, and you based your article on this misinterpretation. His statement goes a bit deeper than being a superficial insult to blacks. It's about the history of African Americans in this country compared to that of Latinos, and I think he has a point worth considering. I don't know if he's right or wrong, but at least get what he is saying before you go off on him.
I've been on Netflix for a few years. About a year ago I decided to try Blockbuster for a while, to see if there were any advantages. There weren't, especially since there is no Blockbuster within about 40 miles of where I live, so taking it back to the store was not a plus. But what really turned me off was that on multiple occasions Blockbuster did not send me the next DVD on my list, but skipped one or more and sent me one further down the list. When I called them to find out whay this happened, they told me that they send out the DVD that is closest to me geographically, so I would get it faster. So even though the DVD at the top of my list was available, I got my 2nd or 3rd choice instead so I would get it overnight, and I had no choice in the matter. I never have had this problem with Netflix, so I nixed Blockbuster.
Just wondering, if Barry Bonds married a Jewish woman, would he then become the greatest Jewish ballplayer of all time? Jonah Keri might think so, but he would probably be alone in that opinion.
Anyway, for those who don't know, such as Mr. Keri apparently, you are a Jew if your mother is/was Jewish. Otherwise, not.
