By the way...
[Read the article: Americans more ready for a black president than a woman?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]A lot of the tenor I'm getting on this board is that we should vote for Hillary because sh'es faced all kinds of sexism from the media, more so than Barack has faced racism from the media or from HIllary. I think that we should be able to agree on the fact that both have been discriminated against somewhere by somebody.
Somebody please explain, in detail why this is a qualification for the presidency. At best this should wash itself out so we can move on to something important, like real issues? I must admit this nit-picking about who has been through more shit is real stupid. Can we talk about the candidates in terms of stances and character?

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Wow, can some of you Hillary supporters be more obtuse!?
You wrote:
"Why are they not asking Obama to back down, why is that Hillary has to give up, give in, forget about it, stop running, why?"
How do we begin here? Well, I'll try to go slow. Hillary is the one behind. Obama is winning. Asking Obama to back down would be so overtly racist, only out and out white supremacists would actually suggest that. I don't even think that is clear enough. Maybe a sports analogy will make it easier (though I doubt it). We are in the 4th quarter of the Conference Championships (the games played to decide who goes to the Super Bowl). It late and the Hillirators are losing to the Baracksters by 17 with 5 minutes to play. Using your logic, we should be asking the Baracksters to give up? Please...
As to your women to the back of the bus comment, I'm really worried about you. I'm not sure how you got the feeling that women's rights are headed top the back of the bus, but man... see a doctor. I know... Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean there's not someone out to get you... but really, do you read what you write?

@Carol Richards
[Read the article: Americans more ready for a black president than a woman?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This is a very serious question directed at your response to me as it will determine how I respond. Were you being serious or sarcastic in your comment on women having a more difficult time in politics? I find it hard to believe that either candidate has it "easier" right now. The fact that supporters of both sides are unhappy with the campaign the opposition is running tells me that they are both slinging some mud. Asking who started it, or who threw the most is just about irrelevant to me. To me it all distracting from the things that really matter.

Offensive language
[Read the article: Thank you, Rush Limbaugh!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm only about a third of the way through the letters section, so forgive me if this has already been addressed. You can only be offended by what you let offend you. I don't know if I'm just desensitized from years of being called names, or if this is just something I've arrived at over the years. If someone calls me a name now, it really does matter who is calling you that name.
I also believe in calling a spade a spade. It is often times because of discomfort that we are compelled to look beyond our comfort zone and question things. So it is sometimes good that someone calls you "racist," or "bitch" or "prick..."
I think I may need some more time to make this more articulate, but I think that all "offensive language" serves a purpose. I must ponder this further...

The New Bedford Raid
[Read the article: Quote of the day ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I take some exception to the author's comments about the New Bedford, Massachusetts raid in which 312 illegal immigrants were rounded up. Those that came to their aid claimed that "they were only doing jobs that Americans didn't want." The next morning, the line was around the block with people who wanted those jobs. It wasn't a question of no one wanting them, they weren't being offered at legal wages. Those jobs are now held by people making more than minimum wage, under better working conditions and by people who pay more taxes. This was not a war on brown people. This was a matter of economic survival for New Bedford.

The difference is
[Read the article: Confronting Congolese rapists ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Iraq has things we want and need as a country. Granted that the war in Iraq has been fairly innefective, but at least it made some sort of economic sense. Quagmires in Sudan, Rwanda and the Congo are practically literal black holes for money and resources. The only reasons to get involved there are so that we can ease our consciences.

Just a question...
[Read the article: MSNBC on the "pregnant man": "I'm gonna be sick"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]What does Thomas know about being a man? If I take a Honda frame and engine and put Toyoto body panels on it, is it a Toyota or a Honda, or something in between?
