The author's bisexuality aside, let's break ths all down. After her divorce, she got involved with an admittedly unstable creature who was cheating on her own spouse (however unworthty he was) and we're supposed to feel surprised and saddened that it didn't work out?
Can you say "rebound relationship"?
Just chalk it up to a mistake that most people coming out of long-term relationships do. Fall in too quickly and get attached too quickly before even having a chance to get over the old relationship and getting your feet on the ground. We've all done it. Maybe if you had met Gisele six months later you still would have fallen in love, but you certainly would have gone into it with clearer eyes.
Hillary Clinton, a center-left Democrat is too much of a Washington insider and too conservative for Obama's followers to swallow for the VP spot, but the laughable fantasy of picking a conservative Republican is actually treated as a serious possibility by pundants?
You guys have really drunk the KoolAid, haven't you?
Unfortunately for Michelle Obama, if you are a strong, assertive, outspoken woman, having your husband run for president is just about the worst thing that will ever happen to you. Suddenly everything you say will be scrutinized, your every action micromanaged. Even what you wear on a daily basis when you are out in public will become national news. Unfortunately when it comes to the wives of our public officals, most people don't want them to do anything other than smile adoringly at her husband in the photo ops and take on uncontroversial causes.
This has happened to every other strong wife of a candidate. Hillary Clinton was ridiculed when she made her "Tammy Wynett stand by your man" statement and had to suffer the indignity of publishing a cookie recipie to show that she was domestically inclined. Teresa Heinz Kerry was late night fodder when she told a reporter to "stuff it". Both of these women were called shrews, harridans, bitches, emasculating whores... it wasn't pretty to watch.
It's hardly a new phenomena. Eleanor Roosevelt, probably the smartest of our first ladies was routinely criticised for her statements on government policy and social issues. Mary Todd Lincoln was a favorite victim of the press for her spending habits and ridiculed for her unceasing mourning of her husband.
Michelle Obama is in for a rough ride. She will have to get used to watching every single word she speaks in public. Everything she says and does will be picked over and examined and stepping out of line can hurt her husband's chances of winning the election. It's unfortunate, but this is the game that the Obamas bought into. Fair or not, her behavior will be a factor in how some people vote.
But I had always thought that a bonus was paid for work that went above and beyond the normal call of duty. Whether it's landing a major account or putting in extra hours, a bonus is not part of your normal pay. A commision is earned for a sale that is actually made.
So some women are upset that they might be deprived of bonuses if they take maternity leave? Give me a break. Considering that most women get little or no paid maternity leave, this is a pretty shallow concern. And what about the people at the office who are there and pulling extra duties to cover for the person out for three months? Shouldn't they be given a special reward for enabling that woman to have her maternity leave and have a job to return to? If she's not in the office to make a sale, why shouldn't the one who did be the one to earn the commision?
First thing that I learned in my college statistics class is that a poll is only as accurate as its methodology. All polls have their shortcomings and the point of a poll is to get a sample which can give you an idea of the larger population.
That sample can be derived in several ways, but I think that to claim that polls are naturally inacurate because they cannot count cell phone users is a fairly weak arguement. There is nothing to support the theory that these voters naturally support Obama and without any evidence to support the claim, comes across as merely trying to pump up Obama's candidacy.
And for the record, I am a cell phone user who is NOT an Obama supporter, even though I will end up voting for him simply because the other option is even less palatable .
