If this is how things "work" in China, it seems to me pretty unworkable. I guess the Olympic ticketing mess is not an anomaly, then, just a different example of how things "work" there.
All that plus the 2 grannies sentenced to labor & re-education camps for just thinking of protesting at an official protest site? And the array of forces seemingly soon to conspire against manufacturing everything in China?
I think we can look forward to the 21st century being another 'American century', for whatever that's worth.
An ACTUAL Democratic Woman (Rep. Stephanie Tubbs Jones) is near death (or may even have died...?) and this has yet to warrant a mention on Broadsheet.
How about changing the name of the blog to reflect the fact that it consists mostly of complaining? There may be a lingering illusion that this blog is generally about news items of interest to the female populace when it's actually only about those suitable for griping.
So, how about a word about Ms. Tubbs-Jones?
There are none to speak of for my short commute to San Francisco State U. And there are none on campus either. Officially, I'm supposed to go all the way around back by the parking lot. Cycling across campus in any way is a ticketable offense.
Nor are there any to speak of on any of my typical recreational rides. There's that one "multi-use path" in the park panhandle, but a bike path with double-wide baby carriages and people walking 4 abreast isn't really a bike path. I do wish they would stick to the parallel path that I'm forbidden from riding on.

I drive plenty in SF, and I see pretty much the same level of behavior on the streets regardless of the method of conveyance. Pedestrians and drivers of every kind are just as stupid and rude as any cyclist I've ever seen. I'm inclined to say that the pedestrians are the worst, but maybe there are just a lot of them who have a death wish.
I can really only speak for myself; I look both ways before crossing the street and wait my turn, I have a full set of safety and visibility gear for cycling and I follow the rules of the road, and when driving I drive carefully and try to respect other users of the road. And I expect the same from others!
Although I think that many pedestrians are morons, ultimately they risk their own necks. My contempt and anger for the other morons is pretty much equal to the mass of the vehicle they're operating times their degree of arrogance and stupidity, so to me almost any damnfool motorist is much, much worse than almost any idiot cyclist.
Seems like a pretty ham-fisted job of cheating, they left evidence of the truth all over the place. It's just that everyone's afraid of the nasty hissy fit China will have about people pointing out that they're cheating. Also, since their corruption is top to bottom in these things just like in the old Soviet Bloc days, any confessions or admissions or other cracks in the facade would be severely dealt with.
I'd bet that the US contingent actually cheated much less than China, and that any individuals who did were much more likely to get caught. And that it's one thing Bush actually wouldn't be responsible for.
The kid's a great athlete, but the rules really should apply uniformly otherwise they aren't really rules.

The man who apparently didn't understand the idea of a right to privacy? It's there in the constitution, but he couldn't see it because it's between the lines.
As far as I'm concerned the 9th amendment ("The enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people.") on top of the various individual liberties that ARE mentioned should be obviously seen to guarantee privacy unequivocally.

Really not a parallel situation, I realize, but there's some analogy in there that I can't quite put my finger on.
The 2 Bushies weren't enough to make me move to Canada (or farther) but those 2 might be.
I'm lucky to be able to use USAA - you have to be in the armed forces, or retired from, or immediately related to someone who was to sign up with them. They have good customer service and are generally very reliable, and aren't going to be bought up by anyone else. They're sort of like a credit union, but they do insurance and investments too.
Way back when, I had Coast Savings. they were bought out by Home Savings, which was soon bought by WaMu. I barely even had time to get new checks! The inevitable stupid fees followed, and I gave up. Good riddance. Find a nice credit union, folks.
