Original article: The mother-daughter wars

Wow.

I'm the offspring of a not very good single mom, and I'll probably need therapy for quite a few years yet. Same goes for my girlfriend too. It seems like a lot of you who want Rebecca Walker to quit whining are in the same boat.

Well, all I can say is that I hope all you bitter Salon letter-writers are getting some good long term therapy.

I've never thought much of 'great' artists who in real life are cold and selfish in their relationships with other people. That goes double if those people are their own children. I guess AW's work is getting moved way down on my list of things to read someday.

If nothing else...

DUMP THE NARCISSIST IMMEDIATELY!

A long trip sounds like a good idea, and yes, the film business is often a soul-sucking viper pit. Unless/until you get lucky and find a moderately non-dysfunctional niche in it, get out.

You may be stuck in one of those vortexes where every significant person you meet has some kind of personality disorder, such that every boyfriend will be unbelievably charming and using you; and every workplace will be highly dysfunctional and taking advantage of you. Once you learn to avoid such situations, things will get better.

But seriously, get away from Mr. Wonderful.

Greece..

And yet, a friend of mine who returned home to Greece not long ago would never dream of coming out. His family would just as soon he be dead as gay. The degree of gay acceptance is greater here, PDA or no.

Sounds like the War on Drugs to me...

"To bereave a man of life . . . or by violence to confiscate his estate, without accusation or trial...."

Shoot, they do this all the time. If somebody grows pot on your property without your knowledge and gets caught; oh yeah they'll confiscate your estate! Police departments make good money confiscating and selling all manner of property that's even tangentially connected to a drug case, and it matters not if that case ends in an acquittal or if there's even a trial.

Oh, and...

On another note; here in SF, if your car is stolen and recovered by the cops you'll be on the hook for a full set of towing & storage fees and fines. People have had their stolen cars recovered only to lose them to the City because the costs of recovery exceed the value of the vehicle.

Have a look:

{http://www.examiner.com/a-1262011~Theft_ordeal_isn_t_done_after_recovery.html}

To me it somehow seems related.

Cool!

Google ads coughed up an ad for Countrywide!

Is there a special HTWW rate?

Go fix your own state instead of complaining, how about.

S.O.B.

I hope that the Son Of Bob gets a big fat Karma payback very soon. Wretch.

Friday, June 13, 2008 03:32 PM

hey sagcat..

Maybe you missed where the librarian specified that the child was interested in A CHILDREN'S BOOK. I don't know that there are many children's librarians who are so libertarian that you'll find anything more extreme than "Heather has two Mommies". Is that the problem you anticipate? Or maybe "The Lorax", another censorship favorite?

I wonder what kind of dad 'Bob' was that his kid would do that - sometimes parents do the best they can and the kids turn out to be uptight republicans. Maybe Son Of Bob was just jealous.

Anyway, if you're gonna be Stalin to your kids, don't be surprised if you end up in a Gulag when you're old.

What's the difference?

The difference, ElephantTurd, is that McCain is running for President of the United States. How McCain behaves financially is of great interest and import to voters in that contest.

The idiot congresswoman's story is getting plenty of coverage in her district and in California generally. I've heard all about it and she won't be on any ballot I'll ever see.

In a month....

We'll almost be at the point of 'Tim who?' Say what needs to be said now.

This is of course terribly sad for his family and friends. What it actually means for the rest of us, I can't say.

By the way, start that exercise program and maybe lose a few pounds starting NOW, not in a month. It'll help. You can go ahead and excoriate me for being insensitive there. Sorry, but my dad died at 63 from his second heart attack, so I think about things like that.

"young and (seemingly) healthy as Russert"

Young and healthy? Really?

58 isn't young, it's almost 60; that's when many people start retiring. Plus, he was clearly overweight.

When a particular individual dies suddenly, it is indeed a shock.

When an individual who's almost 60 and overweight dies of a heart attack, it isn't all that surprising.

Red Meat

The truth of the matter is, pictures of Obama with them in the background would be like red meat thrown to the lions for the Republicans! Hell, if I was working for them, I'd be trying to get Muslim-looking supporters into every photo-op and event that I could. That picture would've cost him a million votes. Remember the recent shitstorm Rachel Ray found herself in just for wearing a scarf?

He'll have to manage the Muslim vote with the care of a brain surgeon or every one of those votes will cost him 5 redneck votes.

Black & White?

That's it, huh?

He grew up in Hawaii without noticing the native/asian population? And despite his father being north african and him having that funny name, he's strictly all about the American Black/White dichotomy? Wow, the guy really must have blinders on.

It would be nice if...

50 years from now we still had relatively trouble-free access to a natural resource that can be used to manufacture everything from plastics to solvents to lubricants to pharmaceuticals, wouldn't it? I really think it's a MUCH better idea to save the stuff for later when it will come in really handy than it is to basically just torching it now. Oil can be used for SO many things that just stupidly burning it seems criminal.

Saving something for later is so rarely a bad idea, I'm going to go way out on a limb and say that that's the better plan.
