When Barra asserts that Nixon pretty much ignored domestic policy, he is simply ill informed.
Nixon conceived and abundantly funded the twin betes noire of movement right-wingers: The EPA and OSHA !
These were Nixon creations and Nixon's published budgets funded them extremely generously.
I think this has always been true in our country. Most of us have "BE OBEDIENT" drummed intp us from day one.
Obey your teacher, obey your parents, obey the policeman, obey your clergymean, blah, blah, blah,.....Obey, Obey, Obey!!!
The very same Tucker Carlson and Jonah Goldberg type sissy boys, plus all the sissy boy low-brow disk jockeys who hype this insulting childish, obedience to the authorities, are the very same individuals who prattle on about the virtues of Republican/conservative "limited", or "small gummit".
So I asked Sean Hannity off the air recently, "Sean, what's "limited" or "small" about a gov't. that reads your mail and that takes for itself the "right" to pick me up off the street and throw me into a dungeon, never to be heard from again?"
He answered "Click".
Haven't heard from him since.
But then this is an individual (like many of his colleagues) who shamelessly advertises his devout fundamentalist style "godlines" while professing the beliefs of that evangelical atheist Ayn Rand.
Gary Kamiya writes about G.W. Bush that:
"He does not care about the real world -- because for him it isn't the true reality."
I disagree because Bush's relentless mega tax cutting for the benefit of the wealthiest people in the country are very much rooted in the earthly plain, not the spiritual.
Kamiya also asserts that Bush is not humble, even as history, both distant and recent has confirmed repeatedly the axiom that humble folk aspire to teaching perhaps, or maybe nursing; not the presidency of the United States.
Thin gruel here, I'm afraid.
Garrison,
I've long admired you, and the idea of the cretinous rightwing liars polluting the very medium that you use to enlighten people and to make people joyful, is disgusting.
I can easily understand why you wouldn't want to give the gargoyle you quoted any publicity, but I want to urge you to at least make plain the COMPANY that inflicts his swill on us, and in so doing hurts us all.
In truth, it is not any particular host doing the speaking....it is always the LICENSE HOLDER who is making the decision to put somebody on the radio.
And we have a right to know who these "owners" are that are inflicting this filth on us.
So please tell us on what station you heard this obscenity.

Prior to about 1997 or thereabout, vicious right wing hacks sported their natural Newt Gingrich scowl (see Gingrich on the Ali G show to understand what I mean). However, at about the epoch I mentioned, they all began to get the same coaching advice; SMILE, DARN YOU, SMILE !
This is most obvious in the case of Rudolph Giuliani, whose face was glued into a deliberately permanent scowl for 15 years until one day in 1997 his faced was seemingly twisted inside out overnight and thereafter forevermore reflected the tortured smile that his image consultant sold to him.
Apparently, based on this consultant's stunning success with Giuliani, and the similar blooming of Joan Rivers, and Jacqueline Wildenstein (the cat lady), the tormented, grafted smile has achieved an iconic status in the pantheon of right wing cheeseballs and is now de riguer for all low-brow, right wing, radio ghouls whose faces only yesterday had been percolating proudly in snearing contempt.
See, this is the USA, and we're HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY, with our glorious leader, and our glorious Lord, and our glorious War, and our glorious Exceptionalism, and our glorious Invisible Hand, and our glorious Triumphalism, and our glorious, Christian Humility.
Or is that Humiliation?
I wouldn't refer to it as "conservative talk radio". Chuck Hagel is a conservative, as is Andrew J. Bacevich; both decent and educated men.
I suggest a more suitable name for the poisonous smear based swill on what is euphemistically called "talk radio" would be "low-brow, rightwing radio".
