Salon writer is confused. What else is new?

Considering that the article was a companion piece to one about an Interfaith Think Tank developing a guide for the Faithful on the ethics of embryo donation, what is so confusing? And for the record, the subtitle specifically mentions 'struggles with science,faith....'

To me, the most interesting line from one of the Think Tank members was

"Marcia Hermansen, an Islamic scholar at Loyola University, said Islam does not forbid stem cell research or the destruction of extra embryos because Muslims believe embryos do not have the status of a person."

Catholic School Flashback......

The rules for conduct at any of my school dances required 'leaving room for the Holy Spirit' when couples danced.

Does anyone get the feeling the blogs so opposed to her getting married were hoaxes she perpetrated to garner publicity.

Because who really cares?

Anyone who'd be upset about her getting married is like Beatles' fans who bawled their eyes out over Lennon or McCartney getting hitched. It's creepy if you are no longer a teenager.

The fact that a feminist is in the Vows section isn't particularly newsworthy. Just about every couple in the times is feminist, even the Vera Wang wearing banker and her PR hubby with a place in the Hamptons.

PRIVATE school institutes a DRESS CODE! Oh, the horrors!

Morehouse doesn't want its students to look like they walked off of www.peopleofwalmart.com. Life has a dress code, and you suit up like your team to show your readiness to play. There are thousands of other places to get an education if wearing pumps to Calculus lecture is important to you.

My neice is in a Nursing program at a public College. This competitive program requires the students to wear their Student Nurse blazer and lace up shoes or non-slip clogs. They forbid nail polish, fake nails and false eyelashes. Students who won't comply because they want to express their indivduality are advised that perhaps a different major or school will be a better fit. My brother is in culinary school. It's possible to chop an onion or saute lamb chops in sweatpants and a tee shirt, but showing up to class without the right chefs pants and coat is disrepecting the Chef, and no one would dare.

If Berman needed criminal representation, would she want a cross dressing male lawyer arguing her case before a jury? What if he wore droopy trousers and a doo rag when presenting her case to the Supreme Court? Imagine if the newest justice dressed like the Chiquita icon instead of wearing her judicial robe?

Morehouse gets to set the tone on campus and in the classroom. They also get to decide what a diploma from Morehouse implies for all who have earned one. Good for them.

As if!

That "what-about-the-children?" excuse of his presumes that people seek a marriage license in order to procreate. Marriage & children have been unrelated for quite a while now.

Does Kissling think there should have been some Catholic/Vatican jail to lock up pedophile priests?

When a crime was committed, did a victim or victim's parent call the police or prosecutors and pursue criminal justice? Too often, they didn't and their abusers kept at it. I'm in no way excusing the actions of criminals or their protectors, but relocating & continuing to support people who fuck children is not a behavior unique to Catholic Bishops. Have you heard about the government of France, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences, Woody Allen, Martin Scorcese & Friends?....

Are we still boycotting Mel Gibson's films or Glenn Beck's advertisers?

Boycotts are the ultimate democratic tool. One votes with one's attention and one's dollars on a daily basis.

I have a limited entertainment budget. I can see alot of great art without enriching those who think drugging someone and then fucking them in the ass after they have said no is anything less than rape.

The victim's life is not ruined.

Let's get that straight. It has been painful at times, but it is hardly ruined, by Polanski or the media. I can appreciate her desire to make it all go away. It never does.

The justice that society must seek in requiring that he serve his sentence is the same justice the victim, now a Mother of three, would want if a grown man gave her 13 year old drugs and alcohol so he could fuck that child in the ass.

People who think Polanski should get a pass are like Catholic Bishops who also wanted to look the other way.
