  • There's a Simple Answer to the Question....

[Read the article: The Clinton-Obama contest gets rougher]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Will the battle for the Democratic nomination turn into a debate about race and gender? asks the subhead about the Clinton-Obama contest. Well, let's see. This is the Democratic Party we're talking about here. The Democrats almost always find a way to lose to the Republicans, no matter how difficult that might be. So...the answer is, obviously, YES.

  • How I Wish It Were True....

[Read the article: Dead party walking]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I did enjoy reading this wishful thinking and I certainly join in wishing it were true. However, I've been a Democrat all my life and therefore am confident we can as usual find a way to allow the Republicans to win. Actually we're not far from it now. Both Clinton and Obama are benefitting mightily from that well-known polling effect of people unwilling to admit their prejudices. The truth is that it's still unlikely this country is ready to elect a woman President and highly improbable--to say the least--that it will elect a young, inexperienced man who happens to be black and named Obama. So of course the Democratic nomination will go to one or the other...and we'll probably have another Republican President.

  • Stay out, Nader!

[Read the article: President Nader? Maybe third time's the charm]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After Nader was stupid enough to give us George Bush last time, you'd think he'd know better than to screw up another election. If people voted for the biggest ego, he'd win hands down. Otherwise, he's just going to drain votes away from the Democrats again.

  • Good For You!

[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Great column. Knight was, is, and no doubt always will be a total asshole who deserves every word of it.

  • Why McCain Will Be Elected

[Read the article: The audacity of narcissism]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I couldn't agree more about Nader. His self-involved egotism is beyond disgusting. It will not, however, be he who puts McCain in the White House; it will be us Democrats. There is absolutely no possibility that the same voting public who put George W. Bush in the White House are going to put a young, inexperienced black man named Barack Hussein Obama in the White House. We'll do what we so often do. Nominate a loser.

  • No Apology

[Read the article: Geraldine Ferraro still needs to apologize]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't understand why there are so many calls for Ferraro to apologize for telling the truth. If Barack Obama were white, he'd be a young Michael Kucinich. If he were a woman, he'd be a young...Geraldine Ferraro. In neither case would he be taken remotely seriously as a Presidential candidate. Come on, folks. The truth is not racist--no matter how much some people wish it were.

  • Right on!

[Read the article: Thank you, Rush Limbaugh!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Good for you, Joan. I don't want to share Salon with the pathetic cretins who would display their sexism so openly and obscenely. Maybe they can find a home at Rush Limbaugh's web site (assuming he has one).

  • Hurray for McCain!

[Read the article: Who is Sarah Palin?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

As a liberal Democrat, I'm thrilled that McCain was dumb enough to pick a right-wing nutcase woman as his VP. If there are a majority of voters in the country who think a small-time Alaskan legislator would make a good President (not unlikely given McCain's age) or that someone even more like George Bush than McCain is a good addition to the ticket, then I supppose we deserve the disaster we'll get -- but I think it's more likely that McCain just elected Obama.

  • Talk about out of touch....

[Read the article: Obama surfs through]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Wow. I used to get a kick out Camille Paglia's wit and wisdom, but both seem to have gone elsewhere while I wasn't looking. She's worried about Obama's birth certificate and his thesis?? She now thinks there may be something to the Ayers connection (that somehow, conspiratorially, all the mainstream news media missed)? She LIKES Sarah Palin??? Well, good for her, I guess. She and Sarah can pass over into total irrelevance together in these coming months. (Although, speaking for myself, I'd love to see Palin as the Republican Presidential candidate in 2012. I can imagine no better way to guarantee that Obama keeps the office)

  • Fixin' the Rs

[Read the article: Can Republicans come back from their "thumpin'"?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What a great idea: Go back to the policies and approaches of the last man to hold the Presidency who was even less intelligent and well-informed than George W. Bush. Gotta hand it to those conservatives; they are consistent in relying on dumbness to carry the day. Reagan was indeed much more popular but that was simply because he was a much better actor than Dubya (theatrical standards in the White House admittedly being substantially lower than they are in Hollywood). This idea plus Sarah Palin as the standard-bearer.... What more could the Democrats need to guarantee that they stay in power?

  • Betting on NFL

[Read the article: Bad ending? You bet]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Excuse me, but anybody who loses $600,000 in betting on an NFL game (or any other game, for that matter) is simply paying a well-deserved Stupidity Penalty.
