AMERICA's REAL Free Trade Challenge
[Read the article: Canada's ferocious NAFTA growl]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Fortunately the is balance between the U.S. and Canada. Balance in trade, culture, language, standard of living, common sense (some), political and social structures, and social mores.
Even with that balance there are some irritating elements in the trade game.
The most difficult free trade challenge facing America is not related to NAFTA, but to its relationship with Asia . . .
http://pacificgatepost.blogspot.com/2008/02/americas-china-quandary.html
There is no "balance" with Mexico and none with China. Confrontation with trading partners is the easy part. The relationships are massively complex and real solutions are obscure.
Neither Democratic candidate has solutions on free trade, nor do the Republicans. Running off in the heat of debate isn't the solution.

NOT A CHANCE .... but watch out Asia
[Read the article: Will loose lips sink anti-NAFTA ships?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The barricades around fortress America may be just rhetoric for now while the candidates cackle on with threats about NAFTA, but the stockade is coming. The strain on the middle class that is creating the Obama phenomenon will eventually demand that its income and jobs be protected.

Promises Personified? What?
[Read the article: Hillary at twilight]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This Democratic race is not Obama's because of a great ground campaign or even because of stated promises delivered in sermon invoking style.
Here is why an unknown only months ago is a serious contender for the most powerful position available to any human being....
http://pacificgatepost.blogspot.com/2008/02/obama-social-phenomenon.html
There is something disconcerting about so little experience, track record and opaque motives being another notch in the legacy of the outgoing President.

Eliot Spitzer and ETHICS
[Read the article: The tragic fall of Eliot Spitzer]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This isn't about prostitution or the avails of prostitution, but about a sad lack of ethics.
http://pacificgatepost.blogspot.com/2008/03/ethics-where-art-thou.html
Most unfortunate is that one of the few guys with the talent and tenacity to smoke out fraud and abuse, would be so insecure that his arrogance would destroy his life, and provide his past and current adversaries the platform for gloating.

AMERICA'S BOARDROOMS ARE BROKEN... TIME TO RESTRUCTURE
[Read the article: The rise of the superclass]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]How about starting the fix at the top... THE BOARDROOMS NEED an overhaul.
This is where much abuse of corporate America begins. That's where abuse can lead to this kind of "superclass" article actually having some credibility.
http://pacificgatepost.blogspot.com/2008/03/boardrooms-need-restructuring-and-not.html
Let's give common sense and responsible governance a nudge... before there's a complete breakdown of the system.

GLOBAL WARMING isn't ... new data ....
[Read the article: Peak oil? Consider it solved]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Correction... current data suggests that Global Warming isn't... it may even be cooling.

It remains that we must reduce out imprint. We're making a mess out there. Consumption is the best place to start tightening the belt.

PUT EGOS ASIDE AND THINK STRAIGHT....
[Read the article: Why Obama should pick Hillary Clinton as veep]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]OBAMA REALLY HAS LITTLE CHOICE IN HIS RUNNING MATE
At least not if he wants to guarantee his seat in the Oval Office. He really needs to pay attention because the Presidency is not his by a long shot.

THE VP DECISION OBAMA SHOULD HAVE MADE
[Read the article: Veep too late]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]HILLARY MAY BE ANTICIPATING A DIFFERENT OUTCOME AT THE CONVENTION
The Democratic convention is not over and done with.

SARAH PALIN IS MORE THAN JUST ANOTHER STATE GOVERNOR.
[Read the article: John McCain's female card]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]She shook up Alaska to its roots.
McCain has made a bold and telling move selecting someone with Chief Executive experience – the only one to have any - of the four running for the White House.

AUTO INDUSTRY BAILOUT - THERE IS A WAY
[Read the article: As goes General Motors, so goes the world?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]BAILOUTS ARE COMPLEX BEASTS
Here is a workable plan with common sense for the U.S. Auto Industry -
http://pacificgatepost.blogspot.com/2008/11/solution-for-detroit-gm-friends.html
Do not leave it to Paulson or Congress to come up with a creative plan or consider taxpayers' interests.
There is much creative talent hidden inside the U.S. Big 3 that has been smothered by mismanagement and the UAW.
