However, it is illegal to own a pure Wolf in California as a pet. I'm not sure about hybrids. If someone wants to own a beautiful, wild looking dog, they should go with a Carolina dog. They are a Native American breed that has primitive genetic lineage tracing back to the Australian Dingo. It wouldn't surprise me if they had some Wolf, Fox or Coyote mixed in since the last ice age. The good thing is, they make for healthy, kind, intelligent pets. Canines that haven't embraced humanity probably aren't going to anytime soon.
