Very important:
[Read the article: Another iPhone feature -- it crashes!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]iPhone crashing? Mine hasn't. If anything it's been a breath of fresh air compared to all the other "smart" phones I've owned over the years. Nokia and Treos no longer! No more problems with updates, lagging OS, etc.
Of course, no device is perfect...but even though this is a 1st gen phone, I am blown away by how easy it is to use and how well it does what was advertised.
This aside, Farhad...if you're going to be fair, you really should mention that a OS crashing could be from a variety of things and not just a poorly coded OS. I run a G5 quad like crazy from sun up to sun down with an absurd amount of audio/video/design software running hundreds of plugins, yada yada. It has NEVER crashed. Why? Probably because I repair my permissions and check my directory once in a while. I make sure my dual 500 gb hard drives aren't too full, and I have really good SDRAM installed. This things make a VERY big difference.
I've teched people's macs when they have been having problems. Bad RAM crashes a operating system, no matter what the platform. Then you have people who fill up a hard drive so it has a mere 30 mb left on it and they are wondering why things slow down or crash. It's not like I expect you to be a mechanic, but you should know better than to run a car without checking the oil once in a while or filling the gas tank with the right fuel.
Farhad, you might have bought a lemon. I'd bring it in to the Apple store and I bet they'd exchange it no problem. I'm sure the last thing they want is a tech writer telling everyone a iPhone is unstable.
To the guy who's Power PC mac is always crashing:
-Make sure your hard drive isn't more than 75% full.
-Make sure your RAM isn't defective (using your OSX install disc diagnostics application)
-Print this and do the following:
restart the computer...while it's starting up hold down (option) (apple) (o) and (f).
the screen will go grey and then you will get a prompt.
type "reset-nvram" (without the quotes, of course) and hit (return).
type "reset-all" and hit (return).
your computer will reboot.
THEN
restart the computer...while starting up, hold down (apple) and (s).
type "/sbin/fsck -f" (without the quotes, of course) and hit (return).
if any errors come up, repeat again until everything is fixed.
when done, type "reboot" and hit (return)
your computer will reboot and it's directory will be better.
LASTLY...
go to your applications folder, find the utilities folder and open the "Disk Utility" application.
select your hard drive and click "repair permissions".
if you haven't done this ever, or in a while, it might take a while.
If you do all of these things, I bet your problems with OSX will go away.

Bubble?
[Read the article: The iPhone bubble?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Maybe. I have to say this though: I know a lot of people ditching Verizon and Sprint to get this phone. It does work outside the USA, but not with carriers outside the USA. You also have to take into account the flashiness: Anyone who has asked me to show them my iPhone has been so impressed that they are getting one soon.

Wow
[Read the article: Another iPhone feature -- it crashes!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Look at all the Apple haters...jumping all over the iPhone, most likely without having tried or bought one. Then we have plenty of flat out false statements:
"Microsoft pushes dates all the time because they can. Apple can't."
Microsoft pushes dates because they are constantly trying to fix their bloated, flawed OS. Also: Apple pushed the release of OSX 10.5 to October because they wanted to make sure they concentrated on perfecting the iPhone before 6/29.
"They could have shipped the iPhone with EDGE capability, the EDGE network was there, but they didn't, and the reason they didn't was because they want to have 4X faster internet in their pocket for the next version so people who bought one now will have a compelling reason to buy one then."
Hmmmm. Then when I'm not using wifi on on my iPhone, why am I able to go online using EDGE? Why is this the second bullshit posting claiming the iPhone doesn't have EDGE? Maybe you meant 3G? I would hope so or you've just proven you know nothing about what a iPhone is capable of.
"But there really isn't anything special about Apple or its products."
Tell that to all the other cell phone companies that are crapping their pants over this release. Also: Name one, just ONE phone that does this much and is this easy to use. Either way, the neophobes are all out in force, trying to pisson Apple's parade out of jealousy. It's like they find the thought of Apple innovating as a threat? As if progress was ever a threat!

Why and what?
[Read the article: The iPhone bubble?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Amerigo: They are "locked" for a reason. AT&T developed the back end to support such things as visual voicemail, etc. I'm sure someone will unlock a iPhone within the week, considering the high profile of the release. People have already figured out how to activate one (just for wifi) using two iPhones. The fact is, even if you were sly enough to unlock one, you would have a phone with no voicemail ability and quite possibly other problems as well.
Dfield: 4 GB is "silly", eh? Try appropriate. In my case, it's perfect. I don't need my whole damn collection of mp3s, movies, etc. on my phone. I'd rather be selective rather than cram everything in there. 4 GB is still big enough for all your email, a few movies, some albums, plenty of photos. I'm sure they will increase capacity, but remember that not everyone needs a 300 Terabyte cell phone anytime soon.
