  • Foley Foley FOLEY FOLEY

    [Read the article: Foley timeline]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I very much appreciate that the Republicans have some trouble w/ Foley and the apparent coverup but does everything have to be about this scandal? This is the 11th entry today alone about Foley out of a total of 13. I think you guys (and everyone else) are overplaying this just a tad much.

And it's not going to be a political winner for our side anyway.

Keep your eye on the ball.

  • Yes - But Were the Attacks on US Soil?

[Read the article: The "Iraq effect"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Because that's what every ostrich is going to say.

  • A Cheap Shot

[Read the article: From Blacksburg to Baghdad]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

And unfortunate. Conflating Iraq with the Blacksburg shooting is in about as poor taste as you can manage. The two are entirely unrelated. There is more than enough going in Iraq to justify attacks on our policies there without using deaths here for comparison. And it serves no one to do so - least of all, "our" side.

It's not a Derbyshire moment. But it's in the same league.

  • Not Bad

[Read the article: Who is Fred Thompson?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Maybe I could vote for Thompson after all.

  • Both Are Exploiting Tragedy For Political Gain

[Read the article: John Edwards' Katrina contest]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

You want to draw attention to Katrina and the plight of the poor? Fine. But a contest? How about taking the money you would waste on an Edwards contribution and heading down to NOLA to do the work yourself, out of the glare of TV cameras and not serving as a political prop. Not only is Edwards whoring Katrina - he'll be whoring the "winner" of this disgusting spectacle.

  • Lies, Damn Lies and Statistics

[Read the article: Trivial (or is it?) Number of the Day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Without even peeking at any census data, I'd have to say there's no way in hell those numbers are anywhere close to right.

  • Gooooooooo Democrats!

[Read the article: The cost of war]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

WHO ARE YOU SCARED OF? WHAT sort of unspeakable travesty would it take for the Democrats to actually do SOMETHING? ANYTHING?

Don't worry Nancy - I'm sure it's just the Republicans hamstringing you again. Keep blaming them. And keep Hoyer after Reid to keep forcing the GOP into filibusters. God knows the reason we put you all in control was so you could continue blaming the other side for your own complete inability to do anything we actually wanted you to.

  • Obfuscation

[Read the article: Andrea Mitchell's strange attack against Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

What you also failed to mention, Alex, is that they were all AFSCME union people from somewhere. I trust you watched the speech and saw the crowd - there were more AFSCME signs than Clinton ones. And as has been mentioned, all the election-night HQ's I've been at or seen usually have, you know, campaign volunteers and supporters there waiting for the totals.

  • I Would Be Crying Too

[Read the article: Clinton "cries" again]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

If I was about to get spanked as badly as she is tomorrow.

  • Thanks for Leaving Out the Important Part

[Read the article: Obama talks hope, but not before attacking Clinton]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

That I was waiting for as he went through all that:

"We are the ones we have been waiting for."

That was the crux and the key moment of the speech. It would have been nice to see you discuss that moment of his message instead of focusing on the "attacks" Obama supposedly mercilessly leveled on his opponent.

Perhaps you were just so taken aback by Clinton's refreshingly decent speech that you no longer found Obama's usual rhetorical flourishes to be of any merit. But if anyone that reads this blog happened to miss Sens. Obama and Clinton's speeches, it would be nice if you afforded your readers the same insights you granted into Obama's finer moment that you did Clinton's.

  • Once Again, the NAACP Comes Down on the Wrong Side

[Read the article: NAACP head wants Florida, Michigan delegates counted]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Michael Vick should also be left alone. I can't recall a single thing the NAACP has called for in a decade that was worth the time I spent reading the press release. I wish them the best in their long trudge into irrelevancy.

The Department of Unimportant Bullshit has issued an enumerated response:

    1. Vince Foster

    2. Vince Foster

    3. Vince Foster

    4. Vince Foster

    5. Vince Foster

    6. Vince Foster?

    7. Vince Foster

  • Nice Post, Alex

[Read the article: Ferraro wants study on sexism, racism in campaign]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm not going to read 300 comments because I don't need to. This was a great post and something that I've felt War Room has been missing sometimes. Your analysis is right on. Keep it up.

  • I Wonder Where They Go From Here

[Read the article: Russert dead from apparent heart attack]

He was the strongest and most respected voice at NBC. Getting up early on Sunday is for chumps so I rarely watched MTP live but I always looked forward to catching pieces of it later in the day. I'll miss him.

  • I Can't Believe You Did That, Alex

    [Read the article: Ru-dy! Ru-dy! Ru-dy!]

    GRATUITOUS NED BEATTY.

    Too funny.

  • Stop Parsing Words

[Read the article: The 527 monster hiding under Obama's bed]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I'm a strong Obama supporter and I was seriously disappointed by his public financing backtracking. All of you that are getting so pissed because he reversed his position need to take off your rose-colored glasses and actually look at this decision. Did he ever promise to take public financing? No. But did he give the appearance, over and over again, that he would? Hell yes he did.

This is "change we can believe in" and all that shit. Not another four years of splitting hairs on what the person actually said versus their intent. Boosh never actually said Iraq was responsible for 9/11 but he essentially said that over and over, as did his minions. Obama has every right in the world to do what he did but he 1) shouldn't have made an issue of public financing to begin with and 2) shouldn't have offered a bullshit excuse for not doing so now. Alex is completely right that he should have worded it differently. "Words have meaning" and all that.

That said, I was telling my girlfriend about this last night (also an Obama supporter) and her response was that she couldn't care less. But for people that already have issues with Obama, he opened himself up to a lot of criticism both through his decision and its explanation.

  • Correction

[Read the article: The 527 monster hiding under Obama's bed]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

    This sentence should read:

"All of you that are getting so pissed because he's being called on reversing his position need to take off your rose-colored glasses and actually look at this decision."

    Awoops.

  • Fuck This Shit

[Read the article: Obama says he supports FISA compromise]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

After the past two days, I'm pretty much done with Obama. I don't know why I let myself get fooled into this.

Is controlled by the Congress. Unless, that is, the Congress completely abrogates that responsibility to the Executive, as they did today. And Obama lead the way.
