Why vote? - The Small Town Hick
[Read the article: Romney defeats McCain]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]You raise a good issue. If the general election is Clinton v. McCain, there really is no reason to vote. Both candidates will be almost identical in policy and agenda. Only the names and party affiliations will be different. It’s like the old Chinese menu with a choice from Column A or Column B, it’s still the same Chinese food from the same kitchen.
In a fascist state, such has developed here stealthily over the last 30 years, part of the role of the media is to create such confusion, frustration and apathy among he electorate that fewer people vote. The less people vote, the fewer which notice how limited the choices actually are and the easier it is to run things.
Fascism is simply the corporations running the government, to paraphrase slightly Benito Mussolini regarding the merger of State and corporate power.
The photo today of Hillary Clinton and Rupert Murdoch* is very telling. He supports Hillary for the same reasons he supports the Republicans; there is no difference in any way except a perception on the part of the general public which is created by the media which he largely owns.
Basically in a “choice” between Clinton and McCain, it comes down to do you prefer Rupert Murdoch’s government with a pants suit or a traditional business suit?

Please Stop!
[Read the article: Berkeley vs. the Marine Corps ]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I'm more opposed to the war than most, but this kind of thing does no one any good. I think the war was stupid, illegal and the entire administration which foisted it upon the world should be sent to The Hague in sealed shipping containers.
Be that as it may, this action will end up being touted like the fabled hippies who spat on returning troops during the Vietnam war. The only people it will serve are right-wing gasbags as a blathering point.
If you want to demonstrate against the war, that's one thing. Demonstrating against the military and recruitment will bite you like picking up a snake. Every goofus in America will see it as treason.

It's them squirrel nuts!
[Read the article: Barack Obama wins Virginia; Republican side too close to call]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Clinton needs to take a page from Huckleberry's playbook and start talking SQUIRREL.
When she heads to Texas for her Panderosa she should serve up some squirrel to those ol' boys & gals down there to show 'em she's one of their crowd.

Golly, Daddy Warbucks...
[Read the article: Hilary Clinton's photo album]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This reminds me of a classic dilemma which I learned in college. The biggest problem with artificial sweeteners is not making them strong enough, but being able to dilute them to the point they won't be too sweet.
It also reminds me of Oscar Wilde's quote on Dickens' Old Curiosity Shop, "One must have a heart of stone to read the death of little Nell without laughing".
The only thing missing is a little girl crying and her puppy licking the tears away.

Why Not?
[Read the article: What the Huck?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I believe that there's a number of very logical reasons for Huckabee to continue. These include not only the possibility of the VP slot, a future campaign and the likelihood of becoming a political commentator, but also there will be very lucrative money to be made on the rubber chicken circuit addressing audiences as a paid speaker after the election.
Let's face it, he isn't a Romney who is running on his own dime. He's having fun obviously, it's paying the mortgage and it's only increasing his fame as well as stroking his ego.

Did someone say parody?
[Read the article: "No, You Can't"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The Panderer - HRH Hillary Clinton (apologies to The Wanderer by Dion DiMucci)
Whoa-oh-o I'm not the kind of girl
Who likes to be pinned down
I stake out all the space
So I can spin all around
Whenever I find myself being stuck with my own words
I call my staff, issue a draft and spin it 'round the world
'Cause I'm the panderer
Whoa-oh-o
The panderer
Whoa-oh-o
I spin around around around around the words
I'm not the kind of girl
Who has values at her core
I only worship Power
So let me tell you once more
I'm not the kind of girl
Who likes to be pinned down
I stake out all the space
So I can spin all around
Whenever I find myself being stuck with my own words
I call my staff, issue a draft and spin it 'round the world
'Cause I'm the panderer
Whoa-oh-o
The panderer
Whoa-oh-o
I spin around around around around the words
'Cause I'm the panderer
Whoa-oh-o
The panderer
Whoa-oh-o
I spin around around around around the words

re: Here's fodder for a new video.
[Read the article: "No, You Can't"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My word, what an erudite statement of philosophy, issues and political theory.
You posted, Hillary Clinton said, "There is a very important choice and a big difference between the candidates in this race. I am in the solutions business. My opponent is in the promises business."
I guess opponents in both parties should just pack their bags and go home if all voters are as intelligent and discerning as you.

re: "The men who dislike Hillary are usually men whom are very intimidated by strong, intelligent and powerful woman. "
[Read the article: "No, You Can't"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Au contraire, I'm married to a strong, intelligent and powerful woman. She hates Hillary as much as most people I know.
The difference is that she, as well as our friends, have been educated to the point of making independent judgements rather than simply casting aspersions upon those with whom we disagree.

Former Sen. Rick Santorum
[Read the article: Quote of the day]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Whom among us could ever doubt the validity of opinion of such an illustrious person as Mr. Santorum? Why if it had not been for him, millions of us would never have suspected that the Gay community was conspiring to date our family pet.
Futhermore, whom among us would have ever discerned that stem cell research was Satan's call on the slippery slope of genocide?
I fear though for his sanctity writing for a publication based in "The City of Brotherly Love". Perhaps someone should alert him to the damage it might cause to to his unsullied reputation among his peers. That is, if there indeed are those worthy to be called his equals.
