  • Lola's Heaven

As a Roman Catholic, I've got my way to be closer to God - but I would never attempt, as so many evangelical Brill Creme Christians do, to force my religion on another; quite the contrary, as George Lucas says, "We're all looking at different parts of the same elephant." Heaven must be full of some very colourful individuals, and the shock on the "Ned Flanders" brand Christians' faces will make it well worth the trip to see.

  • Fear of Islam

I marvel at the ignorance most in the western world have toward Islam (I once had an American Baptist tell me that "Muslims don't worship God - they worship Allah."). Yes, there are radicals who manipulate the message of the Qu'ran to their own means, just as there are radical evangelical Christians who manipulate the message of the Bible to their own means. I fear them both equally, and love and respect anyone of any religion who trully understands what it's all about. Too bad it's always the radicals who are mobilised and determined to impose their will on others.

  • Arrogance

One of the greatest tragedies is when one so-called "culture" tries to impose its values and morals on another - especially a culture that has a longer, richer history than their own. I see this in my own work (I'm an anthropologist) with the missionaries, and we all see it happening today in the Middle East. Berekely Breathed gets it, and depicts the absurdity brilliantly. However, I'm not so concerned that "freedom" is what the masterminds of this tragic war really had in mind when they unleashed it. They don't care who's in charge and how many human rights they trample as long as the war goes on, and the profit margin keeps rising. They feed the lie of freedom while their stocks continue to rise. No business is as profitable as war, after all...

No matter what General Petraeus' report shows, Bush is going to put spin on it, of course; knowing his boss needs this, Petraeus himself, like any dutiful subordinate, will customize the report to give Bush what he wants. After all, Petraeus doesn't answer to Congress, just the Commander-in-Chief, and so his career depends on whether his boss likes it. Bush knows this, so as BB has predicted, Bush thinks he'll have something to sing about - and he's likely correct, as inaccurate as the report will likely be. After all, Westmoreland never complained about the conduct of the war out loud; he just kept asking for more troops, didn't he?

  • Teachers

In reply to "Anonymous" (who has a rather disparing view of the teaching profession), I understand your anger - if my teachers had let me pass spelling the word "possible" incorrectly, as you've done ("possibell"), I would likely be unhappy with them as well. As it is, my teachers were incredibly important in my becoming successful in my chosen endeavor, and I'll never hesitate to thank them for it. Teachers, I tip my hat ever so humbly...

  • Big Brother, Indeed!

The finest examples of dictatorships are those that are not imposed, but that arrive quietly and, in the name of "security", subtly take away the freedoms of their populations, who love them for it. Well done, BB! Not even showers are safe any more (will they next impose a "no-shower" rule for black-listed individuals?)!

  • Rehashed, yes

As several people have already pointed out, yes, this is a rehash of the old Dan Foggerburp tattoo that Lola Granola revealed back in the '80's. I do like the message about the misguided hero-worship Bush enjoyed after WTC events. I wonder how many people these days will admit to being among the 90% of people who approved of Bush?

  • Personal Preference

To each his own, I suppose... I personally prefer a nice book, and never have and, I expect, never will read an E-Book. If you want you high technology, good for you. If you don't, good for you as well.

She fell for that? ABBA's "SOS"? Good thing Steve didn't pull out lyrics from the Moody Blues - they wouldn't have been able to post the cartoon (well, Larry Flynt could have)!
