"The problem is that there is too much noise in the data and its easy to cherry pick and make one conclusion or another."

Kind of like you are doing? Your preconceived notion is that global warming in not happening, so your interpretation of the data proves your conclusion.

@richard

You are the one with a frail and delusionary grip on reality. Deficits arent going to matter when you are starving and looking for shelter.

That is 6 degrees Celcius, which is 10.8 degrees Fahrenheit. When Chicago hit 103 degrees a few years ago, dozens of people died. How well do you think they would fare if we added another 11 degrees to that? Any city in America with a high rise building would have similiar problems.

What do you think is going to happen to places in the southern US that already reach temps of 100 to 115? They are going to become uninhabitable. Where are all those people going to go?

Have you given a single thought to the long term consequences?

@Frankly

Thanks, re-doing things in notepad did the trick, and it is so much more enjoyable to read here when I can delete letters from people I know I wont enjoy reading.

I am still seeing the "Most Active Letters Threads" and the "Currently in Salon" areas. Are they supposed to show up? Is there something more to do to get rid of those?

It is blocking the ads and the only person in my killfile.

OT Killfile script

Can anyone help me out with this? Based on instructions from "Frankly's" blog site this is where I am stuck.

My error console says there is an illegal character and when I click on the link it takes me to this line in my script, which happens to be the first line:

{rtf1ansiansicpg1252deff0deflang1033{fonttbl{f0fswissfcharset0 Arial;}}

I also get an error that says "permission denied to call method Location.toString"

Any idea how to fix this? It doesnt appear that the script is doing anything for me right now.

Thanks!

@silenced

The Taliban did not conquer Afghanistan, they controlled about 75-90% of Afghanistan. The Northern Alliance was actively resisting them.

Wow!

I sincerely hope you don't currently, or at any time in the future have any children.

"When he asked me what he should do, one offered 35/hr but no medical benefits, the other offered 16/hr but full medical benefits. I advised him to take the job with benefits."

Are you serious? You advised your son to accept a job that paid $19 per hour less?

I am not sure which of you is the dumbest, you for giving such stupid advice, or him for accepting it.

$19 per hour is about $38,000 per year. I can buy one hell of a nice insurance policy for that amount, one that I am certain is better than the one he gets from his employer.

@ awesome-o

I only said he wasnt responsible for inserting a pass on the bonuses. I didnt say he wasnt a typical scumbag politician. ;-)

awesome-o & hunthorse

Read Glenn Greenwald from yesterday. The statement that Dodd made the bonuses possible is patently false.

"It is clear to everyone that that it will only remain a democracy if jews are the majority because it is obvious to everyone that in a democracy with an arab majority jews would be slaves or dead. As they are everywhere else in the arab and moslem world."

Tell that to the jews living in Iran.

You took 6 words out of an entire paragraph, and in my opinion the 6 least important words in the entire paragraph.

Brilliant!

I was simply stating attempting to secure a peace agreement would be political suicide, hence no real attempt will be made.

Here's why nothing will happen.

"A showdown with Israel will split the Democrats, threaten campaign donations and distract attention and resources from his domestic agenda. But unless he is content with the status quo, he has no choice. If he wants to stabilize the Middle East, deal justly with the Palestinians, reduce the threat of jihadist terrorism and ensure a secure future for Israel, he will have to seize the third rail of American politics."

@ macgupta

I am not telling anyone what to do. I am simply saying taking a principled stand on anything has never done me any good.

Take a stand against something that is wrong at work and what do you get? Passed over for promotion, fired or ostracized to the point of resigning. Then when you are looking for a new job, try telling them you took a principled stand on something that was blatantly wrong, and see what you get. "We are looking for a team player, thanks for coming, next!"

Its the same for anything else in America. There is always someone standing behind you who doesn't care about what is right or wrong, they only care about how they are going to benefit from it. Period.

Even people I know are decent people, and I admire them, tell me not to fight it, as I will only lose.

Integrity, ethics, and just plain doing what is right have no place in America. Greed, corruption, and power rule the day.
