  • Cui Bono?

[Read the article: The Al-Haramain ruling and the current Congress]

What could possibly be the benefit for the Democrats in supporting this subversion of democratic principles? This will allow the Republicans to spy on the Democrats, and to leak damaging information to sway any kind of election or issue in their favour.

There must be a lot of dirt accumulated after at least 7 years of warrantlesss wiretaps, which allow the Repubs to hold such tight control over the Dems.

We must all take solace in the fact that the evolution of fascism eventually leads to increased democracy. Bush and his grand fantasy of world domination will come to an end. The people are unwilling to continue to be slaves to power. The elite also die. And truth is always eventually victorious. When it is clear to all that the Emperor has no clothes, the only one who is deluded is he and his entourage. For the majority he is a clown, an imbecile. The village idiot will have an ignominious retirement in Texas, if they allow him back in.

  • Mr Greenwald,

[Read the article: Tom Friedman doesn't understand why America is unpopular in the world]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Friedman lives in a world where up is down, black is white, war is peace, and you gain strength through ignorance.

Why bother to trouble youself with facts? As Colbert noted, facts have a strong left wing bias.

The fear that the neocons have instilled in their economic wage-slaves is coming home to roost. You might be able to fool most of the people in the US(if not just rig the elections), but you can't fool all the people on the entire planet. When will the ICC be laying charges against Bush and his cronies for War crimes, and crimes against humanity? The precedent has now been set with the first sitting head of state(Sudan) being charged. Can there be a bigger modern day war criminal than Gearge W.? Will the ICC be able to avoid what would be a considerable double standard?

If most Americans do not see the Neocons for what they are, the world does; psychopathic power-mongers, who twist reality on its head. Cheers.

  • Mr. Greenwald,

When will it be an appropriate time to declare that the great experiment in democracy in the USA has failed?

We The People(Congress) no longer seem to be an equal branch of the government, and the judiciary, to a large extent, seems to be stacked with Executive Stooges.

Do you still live in a democracy, or is this now the very definition of a police(military) state?

  • Mr. Greenwald,

@--get real makes a very important point. The next major false-flag op on an American target (after 9/11) may be enough for Bush to generate the required public opinion required to make the full transformation to a police-state a reality.

I still say education about WTC building 7 and the physical(scientific) impossibility of The Official Story is the only way to counter this strong possibilty.

What say you from your seat right at the heart of ground Zero?

  • Mr. Greenwald,

[Read the article: The right-wing understanding of Government]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Bush(the Exutive) must control the judiciary in order to maintain his grip on power. But there must be the illusion of justice in order to placate the masses.

Consider the military tribunal system in Guantanamo. A suitable defence of the suspects imprisoned there would include theories that contradict the offical story of 9/11. A competent lawyer could ask Robert Gage(architects and engineers for 9/11 truth) to testify as to the impossibility of the collapse of the WTC buildings, according to the official story. Everyone knows that the official reason for WTC 7's collapse has not yet been announced, and it is only 2 months shy of 7 years since the event!

If you control the process you control the facts. Wouldn't want any truths to get in the way of a preordained conviction. Keep up the good work Mukaskey. You are an example to your peers!

  • Mr. Greenwald,

Many years ago, my dad talked about there only being one party in the USA, the party of big business. It had two names, Democratic and Republican, but that those two names simply represented two different groups of businessmen. I didn't understand what he meant til relatively recently, but how true it is.

Neither of these parties represent the people. If they did, the richest country in the world would look after their poorest members. It would not just call itself civilized, it would be. The only measure of humanity that is of value is how we treat our neighbours, and those less fortunate than ouselves. The US still has a long way to go to become a civil democracy.

Unless Bush is impeached, the rule of law is dead. Welcome to the era of monarchic dictatorship. You remain free at the will of the Leader, for now. Pelosi is a disgrace, and will be remembered as the Neville Chamberlain of the 21st Century. Great legacy Nancy!
