Life?

This whole "life of the bulb" issue has always bothered me, because quite often, bulbs fail through the light fixture being knocked down, or for some other reason that seems to have nothing to do with the actual "life" of the bulb.

So one question I'd like to see covered is the relative sturdiness of each kind of bulb. If my son knocked over his bedside table in the middle of the night (it's not as stable as it should be), will an LED or CFL be more or less likely to survive the crash in good working order?

Also: the longer a bulb lasts, the greater the chance that it will experience one of those bulb-career-ending events. How many bulbs actually get to live out a normal lifespan? I'd like to see some research on that point.

Those ungrateful, uppity black people!

How DARE they not give their votes to Hillary? She's done so much for them!

She voted for the Iraq war authorization, and sent many of their children off to die in Iraq. It's an honor for a family to lose a child in defense of the Halliburton's profits, after all!

She voted for the bankruptcy bill, thereby giving lower- and middle-class blacks (and whites, and everyone else) the comfort of knowing that if they experience a catastrophic medical emergency or illness, they never have to worry about struggling to get back on their feet...because they can't. The credit card companies will own them forever.

She voted for the PATRIOT Act. Okay, that's bad for everyone except Bush and Cheney. Still, it was thoughtful of Hillary to show that she's moved beyond silly ideas like the Bill of Rights. Maybe she was trying to educate black voters with her example, so they can get used to living without privacy or civil liberties. Oddly, though, I think they probably already knew what that was like!

Lastly she voted for the Iran "terrorist" bill, thereby giving working-class Americans of all colors the chance to hope that if their children in the military don't get killed in Iraq or Afghanistan, Bush and Cheney will send them off to die in Iran. Those military death benefits can be a real boon for poor families struggling to get by!

Never!

Never, in the history of our Republic, has a candidate for a major party Presidential nomination dropped out of a race before all states had a chance to vote. Never!

And never, in all the Presidential primary seasons that we've seen in America, have the voters in any state had their votes in the primary be meaningless. Never!

I'm from Rhode Island, and I know that our primary votes have always been enormously important. Always!

What? I'm talking out of my @ss? Oh.

Never mind!

(I'm really sick of this "every state should have a chance to vote" BS - where were all you people for the past 30+ years, when the voters in the final 20-30 states couldn't matter less? Hypocrites.)

Explain this to me:

They're not racists at heart. They have black friends, Chelsea would be allowed to date one, etc. etc. etc. Fine.

But either they're too stupid to realize that they're using racist language, or they're deliberately trying to use racist language to get their supporters to vote against Barack Obama. And if that works, there's absolutely no reason to believe that those racist voters won't continue the pattern by voting for John McCain.

I don't believe the Clintons are stupid. But that they're willing to use the racism of thousands in pursuit of personal political power means that it doesn't matter if they're racist at heart.

They're racist in action. And that's unforgivable. It only makes it worse if they've fought against racism in the past, because that means that they really should - and do! - know better.

I don't like to write about this topic, because invariably some Hillary supporters scream about Obama playing the race card. But Obama didn't start this identity politics BS, and Hillary has been playing both the gender and race cards to the hilt. The real issue to me is Hillary's policies: her support for the Iraq war, the PATRIOT Act, the bankruptcy bill, the Iran "terrorist" vote...on all of those critical votes she stood with George W. Bush, with the Republican Party, and against the Democrats - not to mention the interests and well-being of the American people. But I've never been able to get a Hillary supporter to respond to those points yet, apart from claiming that those were all well-meaning votes.

Well-meaning?!? I still can't get over that.

We don't need someone who makes terrible votes and excuses themselves by saying they meant well. We need someone who will make the right policy choices on Day One.

Got to say...

...from reading his stuff and seeing him on TV, Taibbi just doesn't seem that bright. He's pretty full of himself, but he just doesn't have the intellectual chops to back up that high self-image.

Jolly Old Joe Lieberman

(To the tune of "Jolly Old Saint Nicholas")

Jolly old Joe Lieberman
Moral as can be;
He looks down on everyone,
Reeks of sanctity

Never met a Democrat
That he didn't scorn;
He sure loves our pResident,
Hates free speech and porn.

Jolly old Joe Lieberman
Never went to war;
Happy to send others there
More and more and more.

Had two kids with his first wife
Then he changed his mind
Dumped her 'cause she was Reform
Missed that the first time.

Jolly old Joe Lieberman
Kissed George Bush, alas
Now he spends his days and nights
Kissing Bush's ass.
